Yeah, another thing is that stupid mistakes are very common even when you are not "hyper ultra deluxe stressed out" so it would probably be easy to die. Also there's almost no easy way to practice the room without assist or debug mode so you can't really get a good feel for the room.
fun fact, if you bring the golden strawberry to the moon berry room, it actually detaches from you so you can die, respawn, then regrab the golden and go get the moonberry! perfect for true 100% speedruns.
A Celeste speedrunner by the name of lennygold became the first person to complete the Chapter 9 golden strawberry with proof. Pretty incredible someone's already done it.
For those who don't know the reference in the secret golden strawberry room, the green flag its a reference to the original celeste game. The green flag its the last flag in the minigame.
If you grab the golden strawberry and take it to the moon berry room where it forces you to die. The golden strawberry makes a sound effect and it lets you die without losing it
2:00 - For the key room skip, the jump you have to get "just right", the blocks meander up and down, and you have to jump when it's on the upper part of the cycle.
This isn't a chapter. It's an entire game. I loved dying through it 2876 times. 9+ hours well spent. ...and now you are telling me there is some sort of berry challenge? Oooph! Also: Your intro and outro really hurt my feelings xD But it would be worse to feature this level in the outro in a similar way.
Such a great video about an incredible game. I hope the devs will make yet another great stories in the future (not necessarily about Madeline, although I wouldn't complain). It always amazes me how people discover these extremely well-hidden locations.
I straight up cried when I saw the golden room, I took a break of like 2 weeks THEN died, about 3 full runs after, I did it, but after that I went into a hiatus of like 3 months before I got to touch the game again xDDDD
Oh man, I think I was a bit under halfway done before I decided I needed to stop. I don't know how much I'll have to redo since I don't know how much it save checkpoints you, but oh well. I'll beat it tomorrow. The moonberry shall be mine then as well!
i dont care that this video is a year old, im going to be one of the very few who will do golden berry legit. i dont care how long it takes, how much i suffer, i will do it.
I'm managed to skip the gate on my own, I'm current playing it before beating most b-sides. It's hell, I'll drop and go through the game normally, but I want to get to a checkpoint first.
So I recently bought the game....... completed it + the bsides to the point where it says "C-Sides unlocked" and that message almost had my spine slide out my anus. Now I see this. ...... I honestly though there couldn't be a game much harder than super meat boy. How the fuck is anyone ever supposed to beat this. Those who did: stop lying to me, none of you are humans!!!
That golden strawberry is just evil. Holy crap. "Oh you finished the level perfectly with no deaths? Surprise! There's more level that you can't retry or even look at without bringing the strawberry there!"
At the screen that leads to moonberry (the checkpoint of “Farewell”) if you die enough times this dialogue option triggers: Badeline: “Are you alright Madeline?” Madeline: “We’re so close, but it feels impossible” Bad: “Come on, just a few more tries” Bad: “We can do this” God this makes me smile. I’m sure everyone knows this already but when I first played this chapter it was 2 AM and I was tired so I may or may not have used assist mode to skip this screen oops
idk if you guys noticed this, but at the ending cut scene her night table you can see the medication she uses for her anxiety , in the pill bottle, showing shes still recovering.
@@voxciivity that was my other theroey ngl, but uh, I don't think it is true, maybe if she changed recently, but I do not think it is that recent of a change.
@@goosemchonk he mean't that he did not know it would appear in that specific part of farewell, I mean, in core level it's in the start of it, but in farewell it's in the middle of the level, so it was really unpredictable that a "heart's gate" would appear.
@@iamdadbod Also, i really did think Moon Berry was the only secret in Chapter 9 outside of Golden Berry (wich doesn't really count? I mean, it's in every chapter including all B and C Sides, wich is goddamn evil and i love it), so it was really nice getting to know all these secrets they tucked away!
@@iamdadbod Yeah, and i'm sure there's so many more little things they hid that are gonna be even harder to decipher, like the Kevin Audio wich somewhat hints at yet another secret Crystal Heart, and the Crystal Hear Poem too. I have yet to get all Goldens (in fact i've only completed Chapter 1 Golden as of yet), and also a few missing Strawberries here and there, so it's really not as over as we might've thought. I really look forward to what the team behind this game comes up with next, it's gonna be ridiculous!
You died with a golden berry twice in this video, but failed to mention its new death noise. Not sure if it is a secret or not, but at least mentioning is worthwhile. I ain't complaining, but bringing it to your attention.
Celeste: Chapter 9 - Farewell "Huh. A new level was added to Celeste. Let's see if I can beat it in study hall." 45 minutes later... "Ok, this level is much longer, harder, and puzzley then I thought. I'll continue it on my bus." 1 hour later... "Alright! I made it to the en- Wait, no, it was just a bamboozler (fake heart room). There's more. Welp, guess I'll continue it at home." 3 hours later... I was finally able to beat it today, in my Calculus Honors class. I left off at the final room from last night. All my frustration finally came to an end...Well done Matt Thorson. Farewell... _It looks like you can unlock the true ending only if you GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE LEVEL WITH THE GOLDEN STRAWBERRY._ Yeah no. Let me finish Reflection B-side first. ... JESUS CHRIST. I didn't think this comment would get so many likes! Thank you kind people!
@what in the world oooooooooooh, you misunderstood my statement of not beating Reflection B-side! Yeah, I meant that in the context of beating it with the golden berry. I've beaten all the A, B, and C side levels normally. I've gotten the golden berries for the A and C sides. I'm only missing the one in Reflection B-side, and the levels thereafter. Sorry for the confusion!
Wait hold up matt and lena are trans too!? I've always related to the themes in this game but I didnt really understand why until now. Theres subtle hints to it all over!
I did Chapter 4, too. That one was a bit easy. In fact, I even managed to carry one of the very first strawberries right to the last section of the game while doing so and I have proof :3 twitter.com/ddnava/status/1141926287478366208
I can’t wait to see what mods people can make with all the chapter 9 parts. It is going to be awesome for sure (just like you and this chapter). One more thing. Here’s a strawberry 🍓 just for you (and whoever else wants it).
Creeper 212 I need to get out the big guns. (Gets out soundboard with a mic) (Says *nom* ) *nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom...*
iamdadbod i seriously doubt it, the devs have been working w/ some people on accessability in order to make the wording and features of assist mode more clear and accessability after all that work, adding a super tough room that only appears with assist mode on would just be a slap in the face
@@paulhenderson800 The final room doesn't look super tough; it's just the fact that it's long and you have to do it in a single try or replay the whole level.
I've heard there is another easter egg when using "Fwahaha" as the file name, like changing the Kevin blocks. Haven't had a chance to confirm it yet though.
@@AttacMage The blue and red crystal hearts you collect are listed in your journal with a phrase to each one. You can rearrange them and probably form a poem out of them. The community couldn't solve it yet.
All this stuff at 4:34 seems like the most interesting and I wish more people were talking about it. Could there really be a secret heart hidden somewhere? Doesn't seem likely as people can dissect the game with external software.
madeline says she doesn't take meds at the end of 5A / the start of 6A, wherever the discussion between maddy and theo happens :p Tbf, 9 happens a few years after 8, so i dunno.
I'd love it if someone experienced in that matter could take a shot of Madeline from one of the cutscenes/level complete scenes and remove the colors to compare Madeline's shade of hair with Celia's. Just a thought, was thinking it'd be cool to see if Celia had red hair when she was younger.
You can also get the moon berry WITH the golden strawberry. When you get to that spike part, the golden berry moves to that entrance (the place where you respawn after you die from the spike) and it makes a bell noise. There has only been i think one person who has gotten both the golden berry and moon berry at the same time. And i mean AT THE SAME TIME. The moon berry didn’t collect until he got to the top. Then, he collected both the moon berry and golden berry at the same time.
In the level at 2:00 you can disable electricity with only a jelly fish (not need to unlock the double dash door) the jelly fish must be taken from the previous level then you climb on the last lock jump to the right then throw the jelly on the left so it bounce on the wall and dash up (Sorry for bad english)
During my blind playthrough I didn't know that you could reach the double Crystal so I did a short hyperjump to get onto the path the jellyfish is on, and then I could use the jellyfish from behind the door.
I knew there is no way I'll be able to get through chapter 9 when the PowerPoint presentation about wavedashing started,So I had to assist it through...
I intentionally didn’t watch this video until I saw a full playthrough to not be spoiled, but I think it’s time. I believe a guy called Eenox was the first to legitimately golden strawberry this game. I even saw his “meme” run where he went through all the hard secrets, even the moon berry and the golden strawberry can be done at the same time. (In the room you have to die in the golden strawberry moves to the end of it). I fanboyed so hard when I saw the final golden room with the flag. I played the Pico-8 version in school before I even knew about Celeste being a full game. I speedran it, and one day I searched up the name and would ya know, it’s on Steam as something even greater! I’m glad this game doesn’t forget its origins. Thank you developers.
“Some people think Maddy might be trans” *THINK!? YOU THINK!? WHEN MADDY THORSON, TRANS CREATOR OF CELESTE, WITH TRANS WOMAN COMPOSER WHOSE NAME SLIPS MY MIND, HELPED DEVELOP CELESTE!? YOU THINK MADELINE MIGHT BE TRANS!?* (Joke)
I was curious about something to do with the golden and moon berry, and I wasn't willing to get the golden berry because I am no where near good enough, so I was going through then... 11:11
Once I finally got the golden strawberry to the end of Farewell, just to find out I wasn’t done, I was so pissed. But I can’t stay mad at this game because the room wasn’t as bad as getting every heart, every strawberry/golden strawberry/flying golden strawberry, moon berry, completing every b-side, every c-side, spending 59:28:30, and dying 17,325 times. This game is great and very fun to 100% percent
there is no chance you got farewell golden with a total gametime under 60 hours. would make you the single greatest player of this game ever, beating everyone else to ever do it by hundreds of hours
I'm not good at precision platformers. They aren't really my cup of tea. But somebody said I wouldn't 100% the game and that I'd quit earlier, and I took it personally. ... but no way in hell I'm doing any of the golden berries. Nope nope nope nope.
I found another "secret" in chapter 9. It's not so hidden so you probably know already about it, but since it's not in the video, here i go ! Right after the very first time you see a jelly fish, there is a skip. Instead of going down, you have to go up right. I won't tell you how (unless you ask of course), but there is another room after that. It looked super hard. I didn't know about the wave dash at that time, so that seems super hard. I'm no speedrunner or anything, and i spent a few hundreds of lives trying to get to that room and finish it, but the reward was disappointing. Is there anything i missed in this room ?
Sorry I haven't said anything, I was avoiding spoilers until I could get the moon berry! I completed chapter 9 in a day, but the moon berry is a whole lot harder than I thought it would be going off the hint "Go back at the end of the final screen"
I don't know how to put this exactly, but...I made a short Touhou fangame about six months back, and the experience of putting little touches and easter eggs into it because I was passionate about it and it just "felt right" to add small extra things when I thought of them makes me appreciate how passionate the developers of Celeste were about their game. Particularly since Celeste is many, many orders of magnitude larger than anything I've ever made...
Celeste was a masterpiece from level 1-8 . I played 19 hours the last 3 days and died 6000 without getting angry. 30 min in this level I called It quits , it would have ruined the game experience😅
In my opinion, the creators shouldn't explicitly say if Madeline's trans or not and should be left to viewer interpretation. Lots of things in Celeste are already pretty vague like why she's depressed or why she's even climbing the mountain. I think whether she's trans or not should be left in the air and could possibly add another layer relate-ability (if the depression and anxiety parts didn't already).
When I first found the Kevin room I was terrified. I spent a straight hour researching it and couldn't find anything. The worst part was I was so scared that I literally couldn't leave.. I just wanted to find the meaning.
At least that extra room you get for the golden strawberry is dumb easy compared to everything else you would’ve done at that point. I shall now solemnly swear that I shall reach that final room legitimately one day! Whether it a take months, years, or even a decade. I shall do it!
