I still think we trust the book "Before Sun and Moon" a bit too much, because if Phanes really won the war with "The Second Who Came", he wouldn't just cutely forget to bring Enkanomiya back to the surface, as humanity's prosperity and safety were literally his biggest priorities. Not to mention that one description of The Chasm, which I think was written in one livestream, said that the crater was formed by an object that hit this place long ago, and that the object was then lifted in the sky again. What if this object is Celestia and the reason why the current version is broken (and why it even fell in the first place) was because The Second Who Came won and has been ruling Celestia since he brought it into the sky again? That would explain why all prospering civilizations suddenly started to get destroyed one by one by the Gods for the knowledge they possess. It wouldn't make sense for the very same gods who gave humanity wisdom to suddenly snap and start destroying the very same cities they helped the people of Teyvat to build. The story in the battle pass also makes sense in that scenario, the sky kingdom was Phanes' first Celestia, and the dark corrupted princess is the Unknown God.

The lore states that Enkanomiya was dropped underwater during the war. It's not that people escaped there, people were living there as a part of surface civilization when it literally fell into the ocean when the war destroyed the land, only to be ignored when they prayed for help. The Lore also doesn't state who won the war between the Primordial One and The Second Who Came, Enkanomiyans believed that Primordial One won, but that was only their suspicion they weren't able to confirm. I also find it curious that Enkanomiya is one of the few places with knowledge of the world before the war. Orobashi was punished with death for that knowledge. Why the knowledge that the Seven Sovereigns and Primordial One existed is considered so dangerous by Celestia? It is possible that Celestia is not "Primordial One" but instead "The Second Who Came", which would explain why they are trying to hide the past so much.

Every time I look at celestia, I feel something missing. Maybe it was because it's only a 3d model for now and not entirely released yet. But, whenever I look at it, I felt like nobody is there. Their actions prove it all the more. I feel like the nails are automatic. What if nobody is there and all that's left is the command that the nail be dropped whenever sth bad happens? I dunno, something feels weird about Celestia. If it has multiple gods up there and we are to assume they have discussions, it wouldn't make any sense that they just have so much unity that all of them agree on dropping the nail.

Maybe Sumeru is not the first nation in Teyvat history that went out of their way to build an artificial god and got punished. Or maybe Celestia acted like a gardener ( or a doctor) : sever the sick/corrupted branches ( or limbs) in order to save the ...tree ( patient). The Irminsul tree, pheraps?
@TheTiredBard
@TheTiredBard Год назад
Sal vindagnyr was probably destroyed due to the Irminsul tree that was there. Sal Vindagnyr was known to have a big irminsul tree, which they asked for knowledge, and help. Their priests not only communicated with the heavenly envoys, but also searched for information in the tree. Perhaps they searched too much or too far, and thus Celestia decided to dispose of them. There was a theory made by a reddit user I don't remember that said Celestia's goal with the nails is not only to destroy civilisation, but to destroy major irminsul trees as well. Perhaps they do this to pretty much censor the past. To not let humanity know what has happened in the past, and perhaps what Celestia has done. While this sounds evil, (and it kinda is) it has it's fine reasons. Celestia wants to hide what happened to civilisations of the past, or perhaps about the truth of the world in order to secure that humanity doesn't try to do something funny against celestia. Another note, we don't know if the primordial one or celestia are two different figures, or if the primordial one is the leader of celestia. There is a possibility that celestia is not the Primordial one, nor the Second who came, but perhaps the third ones, who saw the mess the former two left after their war.
@TheDarkestPaladin
@TheDarkestPaladin Год назад
they basically knew too much and thus were silenced by Celestia. As for khanria, it was the bastion of humanity that thrived beyond any other land that was under protection of the gods even tho they had no god of their own, as such celestia saw them as a threat to their pride, image and a way for humanity to questioned so they slaughtered them mercilessly

@@infectedumbrellagrunt3682 There is the subject of the Night Mother, the supposed being that the Abyss came from iirc. Her legend sounds pretty eldritch horror like. There's a lot of mystery surrounding the Abyss Order, it can't just be the sibling running things being the Prince/Princess. Little to no explanation of Abyss related abilities like Childe's Foul Legacy Transformation that was taught by an even stranger individual living in the Abyss. The Abyss is responsible for a lot of behind the scenes natural disasters like Sumeru's Withering and the Chasm. And it's the only faction Celestia actively tries to put down, only character that seems to get the danger of the Abyss is Dainslief. The Fatui are chump change in comparison.

I never even begin to put Celestia as Chaotic nor Benevolent. More like the sentient Wheel of Fate, neither favors nor against anyone, whether if it is Mortals or Gods. But once Humanity steps into the greater unknown or made too much progress. A massive force have to push them back. The Archons weren't just like a Political Leader, but seem to be a Medium to the 7 Elements since back then, it sounds like the Primordial Ones or Older beings are like Dangerous Forces of Nature that they have to put control and put down. They just don't embody the Elements, they Govern and tame the Powers of it. While the Abyss do holds some bounds that Celestia took it too far, it's not unwarranted. They developed too fast and stepping inside the line of the Divine. The more Concerning... Sumeru and The Sages' plan and the extent of making a new god on their hands. That has to be some very serious and heavy repurcussions along the line. Messing with the Divine and Holding a Divine Relic have Massive Consequences along the way. This is one of the Instances, besides the Fatui, where we witness Eldritch-Level of stepping into Forbidden Knowledge.

I like Ashikais theory about why the nails happen. With it having to do with the leaking or corruption of the abyss and that khaenria was fighting against the abyss constantly but eventually got overrun so celestia had to nail them and that maybe the curse is actually from the abyss. Especially since in sumeru the giant robots have logs about the pilots fighting the abyss.
@mitab1

Den said that the curse was placed by a God, however that doesn't necessarily mean it was Celestia who placed the curse, it could be the night mother who could be the God of the abyss, witch if ture it would be Brutally ironic that the abyss order is serving the same God who cursed them and coused the destruction of their homeland, and yet they blame the gods who tried to help them

See I'd wondered that and ultimately figured that as bad as things seem on the ground, Celestia may not see any of what has happened as a cause to panic. There is also the possibility that they are actually pulling strings that we can't see yet. However, I have to say that Nahida's current predicament has made me revisit this question. We've observed Venti, Zhongli and Ei all be completely muzzled in regards to certain Celestia related questions. It's been speculated by many that the Archons were ordered/forced to participate in the cataclysm as well. Now we learn that Nahida has been a prisoner of her own nation for 500 years. Given that the Archons seem to reside under some sort of jurisdiction overseen by Celestia, are they not...mildly concerned that one of their assets has been locked away? It may be that they (kind of like Ei in regard to the decree) see the situation but do not think it violates their self appointed directive but I find it weird af as things currently stand.

I was unaware we had an omniscient camera to watch what the archons of celestia are doing to be able to confirm that they are not fighting against the abyss or vishaps in areas we cannot currently travel to. After capturing the twins the sustainer could have killed them or put them in an space that could not be left (a void type space) but instead just relocated them. Also thus far the traveler has displayed a power that is unique to them: the ability to purify abyssal corruption.
@thunderspark1536
@thunderspark1536 Год назад
It appears to me that it's a sort of programmed response from Celestia, like "find the truth out about the world" or "attempt to leave the planet". The response given when the traveler attempts it is very odd, arrogation is seizing/claiming without justification. Yet we know the traveler has traversed many worlds and entered just fine without meeting the god. The specificity of the attacks and use of the nails seems to be similar to the shogun puppet being paused during Ei's thinking, it is highly likely this sustainer is a defense mechanism meant to protect the world, but now it just protects these principles.

@@teyvatato2148 zhongli pretty much said that they had no choice, and they are muzzled becuz they also have no choice, they are under contract to never talk about what happened in kaenariah, ei doesnt realy know becuz she wasnt there. nahida forgot, she wasnt there but she connected to the ancient divine tree that has every knowledge so she must know too. celestiaian gods are asleep (based on some 3.2 story leak, nahida will threaten dottore with breaking her gnosis if he doesnt help her, something along the lines of "you know if 2 more gnosis are destroyed celestia will awaken" dottore is forced to help her in order for that not to happen, which means, my guess somehow archons managed to put celestia to sleep using their gnosis, but if something happens to it, celestia will cause havoc again. it was also pretty much confirmed that gnosis also act as a bomb that celestia controls, as based on what venti said, its their conncetion to celestia. i think tho that if its not inside their bodies, celestia cant use it as a bomb i wont call archons as assets to celestia, more like their puppets as they themselves cant directly control things in teyvat, in japanese archons are reffered to as majin, which means demons. otherwise celestia would have long ago send enemies our way or dropped a nail on sneznaya the moment they got a wiff of her plan to rebel against them and that zhongli\ei wiilingly gave up on the gnosis. i think some of akademiya higher ups learned some knowledge thats why they trying to do shitty things. i dont think they every realy adored rukkahdevata, she was just too powerful for them to lock her up like they did to her weak memoriless self & they took her gnosis which contained a big portion of her power (makes me think that celestia gave them gnosis not only as bombs but also as a way to control archons powers)

This theory is interesting, as are most of your others, but at this point in Genshin’s story we still lack so much context and insight into the true nature of Celestia. Here’s my shot in the dark, as it relates to this theory: This game’s story has a recurring theme of “honorable intentions with terrible methods” - examples of this include the Harbingers - Signora being the most complete example thus far as Capitano in that one trailer put it, “though her methods tarnished her honor, her sacrifice is a great pity” but if what she says about the Tsaritsa’s dream being pure is to be believed then our theme of good alignment with extreme methods stands. The archons themselves are also good examples. Venti has good intentions leaving Mondstadters to their own freedom, but in many ways his methods can hurt Mondstadt, see “is freedom truly so if demanded of you by a god”. Zhongli’s faked death and Ei’s vision hunt decree for eternity are the same way, good intentions for their people but ultimately do damage to them. So Celestia might be an overarching example of this. Perhaps they had good reason to destroy Khaenriah - after all, the remains of their weapons of war, some still functioning are scattered around Teyvat, even in places that innocent people traverse. Maybe Sal Vindagnyr and Enkanomiya had legitimate reasons to be destroyed by Celestia, but in the process Celestia ultimately does damage in a dishonorable way by killing innocents.
@ViralwingX
@ViralwingX Год назад
This is also what I've been thinking for a good while now Every single nation so far has had this same issue come up even Sumeru has had this-in the form of the great wall that divides the desert and the rainforest which has caused a rift to form between the two sides to the point of being at each others throats, or the fact that the Sages want to keep all knowledge to themselves and not share it with everyone instead keep it to the select few they choose. Many other things have had an impact as well but it would seem that often times someone[s] in power have good intentions but either the methods to which they employ are terrible or end result is worst than they intended it to be.[See The Scarlet King] Which to be honest at least to me seems very human and true to life. The burden of leadership affects everyone and sometimes the leader[s] makes a bad choices or things unforeseen come along and make a mess of everything and when it involves this many people someone is going to get hurt no matter what the decision is.

They've possibly sent the fog to the ancient civilisation in Tsurumi (the ones from the underground ruins, not the people afterwards). And there's a nail next to the ancient city in the Chasm (and thus probably creating that Chasm, since it's a crater). The Prayers-Tiara sets likely describe all the civilisations of old which went down thousands of years ago. We just don't know is Abyss-related or because of Celestia. Still, there is a possibility that they have been wiping out places from even before the Archon War times.

For Dragonspine and Sal Vyndignir it was because of their tree. As of right now we have two uses of Skyfrost Nails and both of them are to delay and defeat ruin. The cursed tree in Dragonspine is described as this cursed thing that will bring only death and ruin, a curse on the land that the Skyfrost nail destroyed and struck down. It is only by the Traveler restoring the three sections of the tree does it regrow and the nail reform, undoing Celestias actions of sealing away this tree said to bring ruin. The second is thr Chasm. The black mud which relates almost perfectly to the Withering entity of Sumeru is located there. This disgusting black mud which corrupts life bringing sickness and decay, rotting plant life to nothing and making people so ill and turning their bodies to skeletao remains. It also empowers monsters, infesting and corrupting elemental life while taking the curse of death put on those from Khaenriah and before them and making it even stronger. The Skyfrost Nail in the Chasm was holding most of that corruption back. Holding back the thing that was tunneling through the earth and dimensions, the Ruin Serpent, and bringing that ruin with it. In both cases Celestia brought down its divine weapon on lands it had blessed for one reason. To stop a force of death and chaos that did nothing but destroy the land and corrupt it to a state of decay and chaos. Which was more important in Celestia's eyes, the few hundred people thay may die when the nail strikes the earth or the billions of people in neighboring nations that would be killed by the spreading corruption.

I still think that your description of "Lawful", is still just Evil really. I also don't agree with the argument that there a no "evil" persons in Genshin. None of the actions committed by the Harbingers so far are good, nor are they "neutral". All of them were evil. Maybe is isn't their intention, maybe the Tsaritsa actually has the best intentions in her heart. That still doesn't change the fact that their actions have been nothing but evil until here, that's why so many people in Teyvat are wary of them. And Celestia is the exact same thing. Sure they may have created humanity and made it prosper, but didn't they (or what they originally were) basically banished the native population of Teyvat in order to do so? And like, who is to say that they didn't create humans for some shady purpose. Venti says it in the archon quest "What is freedom, when demanded by you by a god?", the same principle applies to the relation between humanity and Celestia. The heavenly principles shouldn't be forced onto those who don't agree with them, especially those who are trying to flee war and desperation caused by the sustainers themselves. Like, destroying an entire civilization and cursing it's surviving inhabitants for a few people that "stepped out of line" (accordingly to their own self made and self imposed principles), that's evil.
@ViralwingX

{HUGE THEORY Please Ignore} Its called the greater good if [and this is a big IF] Celestia is protecting all of Teyvat then the life of a few nations is nothing compared to the the life of everyone in Teyvat. The needs of the many out weight the needs of the few you have to look at the big picture. Inazuma is a good example of this The Vision Hunt Decree only really affected around maybe 200 people if that. Only 98 visions were collected and more escaped to the rebellion but for those 98 it sucked a lot for those people for sure but none of them would have died [Except a few from suicide] and war wouldn't have happened if people just let it happen.{not that I think they should have] In comparison to the whole nation which is like 200k most people were largely unaffected by the VHD. Now all of this happened because EI Intention was to protect her nation but everyone suffered due to this just some much more so than others. Now take that and blow it up to the whole of Teyvat. Suddenly it doesn't seem like it matter all that much does it? Those few people died but the rest of the world lives? I would call that a win in my book. This it seems the be what the Heavenly Principles are for. They are rules of law and those who step out of line will be punished with extreme prejudice. Lets Put it this way. Its like living with parents[Celestia ] they tell a child{A nation of Teyvat} to stop playing with fire and they do but they keep coming back when the parents aren't looking they tell them again to stop playing with fire and later the child comes back to play with it again expect this time they smack their hand because they didn't listen.[Destroying nations Enforcing the heavenly principles ] Later on the child comes back to the fire and this time they burn their hand. [ Khaenri'ah] The parents tell them see I told you to stop playing with fire. Late at night while the parents are in another room [not enforcing the Heavenly Principles] the kid finds some embers of the fire and starts the play with them they end up burning the whole house down and everyone dies inside the house. So Are the parent intentions bad? NO of course not they wanted to protect them but the child want to do what they wanted to do so now they all suffer in the end. [The heavenly principles shouldn't be forced onto those who don't agree with them, especially those who are trying to flee war and desperation caused by the sustainers themselves. Like, destroying an entire civilization and cursing it's surviving inhabitants for a few people that "stepped out of line" (accordingly to their own self made and self imposed principles), that's evil.} I imagine this is The Tsaritsa's view point as well. yes the Harbingers have done some very mess up things in each and every nation so far no doubt but if it get's her closer to her rebellion coming to pass she's not going to care too much because She "might" be doing all of these terrible things for everyone's sake. But She needs Power to go against Celestia and just her own strength isn't enough so She needs to gather more so that exactly what she does." I'm doing all of these really bad things to help everyone they just don't know it yet." When they find out that all of this was for not just my nation but for all nations". " They'll thank me later. My Intentions are for the good of all." [This I think is her mind set.] Which even sides with your thought that The Heavenly Principles shouldn't be forced upon people who don't agree with them She doesn't want to conform to circumstance any longer.

Similarly, it seems to me as though Celestia BELIEVES they know what is best for humanity, and any deviation from their plan is considered heretic. That whole "the arrogation of mankind ends now" very well mirrors an overly strict/abusive parent applying "true discipline for your own good", without realizing (or, rather, without being willing to acknowledge) that they might not always know what is best, and that they need to let their kids make their own choices and mistakes. I honestly think that assuming any of the three antagonistic factions (The Fatui, The Abyss Order and Celestia) are truly “evil” goes against what the story is trying to show us. It’s always presenting evidence left and right that both turns you against a group, or in their favor, and by the time we reach the endgame, I think we won’t have a clear answer on who the true villain is. I can see the ending going one of two ways. Either A: We band together with all 3 groups to fight a common enemy, like The Abyss itself or something along those lines. Or B: They do something like in Fire Emblem Three Houses, where you choose who to side with, and therefore there is no “true” ending to the story. (This one seems a bit less likely but I think it would be very cool).

I did a rough interpretation of the description of the Staff of Scorching Sands (Cyno's signature weapon) And according to the Scarlet King, apparently Celestia is notorious for its bureaucratic way of protecting Teyvat. Each time the Abyss' power seems to leak into this world (be it from Khaenrian technology, from Scarlet King's forbidden knowledge, or perhaps even from the Irminsul tree in Vindagnyr) Celestia deals with the issue with one simple action: destruction. It doesn't care too much about collateral damage, about the innocent that would be caught up in the cataclysms it made. It just wants to stop the threat from the Abyss. While it may seem well-intended, the execution seems to go horribly wrong. That's probably why so many Archons frowned upon Celestia's action and chose to cut ties with it. All in all, Celestia might not be outright evil and should be hated on, but someone seriously needs to correct its way of doing things (probably us the Traveler)

Actually, Celestia did exist before the 2nd throne came. Atleast the floating land. You can see a murial at Tsurumi island that seem to date back to the dragonspine era, which show Celestia. So Celestia itself existed in Phanes era. But, it could have been overtaken since we do not know who won. We do see traces of Phanes and the shaded but we dont see traces of the second throne... not that we can identify atleast...they are much more secretive of current Celestia than the past Celestia which tells me they are prepping some twists for it.

@@Sakuyamon a twist you say? Agreed. After all we see an island in the sky, it's been very vaguely hinted that it *could* be where Celestia is, but we have no certainty yet. The island is a palace where a devine being could be...or the palace could be empty. It's us, players, that are taking for granted that the floaty boi (quote) is infact Celestia itself.
@Sakuyamon
@Sakuyamon Год назад
@@RejectedInch Well we arent quite taking it for granted, the manga pointed out itself that it was Celestia and Venti has said he probably couldnt fly that for up and the fruits taste terrible there. So Im pretty sure the island itself is Celestia. But we dont know if its a gateway or something else. The manga did reveal that part of it looks like a type of prison... and there is an interesting pic of some genshin characters at the ruins of a green house...so far no area is known to have that so its possible thats a part of celestia... which would match that Venti say there are fruits there. But if its in ruins... that might mean Celestias inhabitants are already gone. Maybe thats why the Archons dont feel the need to abide by Celestia and give their gnosis. We think that the Tsaritsa might be waging a war on the divine but maybe there is something else at Celestia that they are warring against? Or maybe she dont know they are gone... One thing I think may be important is that we actually befriend the divine, the archons. Why are we doing that if the divine is bad? Many questions arise..

They're not trying to survive for themselves; they're trying to perserve everyone else. Honestly, Celestia is so high up and so disconnected from current Teyvat that they could have easily just let everyone die and start from 0.

I mean, there’s two sides to every story, and Hoyoverse has done a good job so far of not making things black and white with their storytelling. We still don’t know the full details of what actually happened during the cataclysm, we are just told that Celestia were the aggressors, and that Khaenri’ah did nothing wrong outside of getting a little full of themselves. But there’s no way it’s that simple.

One doesn't have to be evil to do evil things. You can dress it up in pretty sophistry, but genocide is genocide. There's also the fact that they didn't limit punishment to the guilty, EVERYONE in Khaenriah was punished. Cursed and twisted into monsters. There's also the overstepping by sealing the twins, beings who weren't even from Teyvat, and were on their way out.

Quick question. Which one is the international ancient civilization? From sun & moon it seems like Enka+Chasm upside-down building. I call them triangle people since their architecture really gets emphasis on triangles. But then we have the case of the circle people, like Sal vignadyr which has the same ruins around the entire world (from thousand winds temple to those Dahri ruins), those get a lot of emphasis on round shapes. So from what we see in what we're exploring is taht the circle people looks like the ancient civilization, but then we have outliers like Enka+Chasm (and Dain says Khaenriah looks similar to that too which makes it more confusing TBH).
@marze-88
@marze-88 Год назад
this has been puzzling me too! my current theory is that both are the same civilization at different times. enkanomiya and the chasm civilization may have been older and more ancient, and enkanomiya retained that architecture style when it sunk into the depths while the rest of the civilization in the surface kept evolving. the reason why the second architecture style may be connected is just that they have similar line carvings on some walls and floors. but aside from that, i don’t have much else to go on. i really hope we learn more about these ancient civilizations soon
@RejectedInch
@RejectedInch Год назад
@@marze-88 i think they're all the same civilasation. In Dragonspine there's that murales that depicts this being offering knowledge to the humans ( a traveller from afar, quote). The statues in Enka and Chasm have the same exact pose, thet have something similar to a cup decorated with gold in their hands and their faces are either broken or removed. We know in reallife history that one way to erase the identities of a civilation is to disfigure ( or decapitate) the symbols of the prominent deities/kings/queens etc.

We only have Khaenirah side of the destruction that happened, (as much as we find) it’s not a coincidence that every god we ask either can’t say or was not there/ does not remember what was happening, perhaps we might get insight on what really happened from Focalors but that depends if she became the hydro archon after the disaster. (I’m a celestia apologist 😓)

Going by the concept of 'Gnosticism' that Genshin is based on, Celestia might believe they are the 'gods' of the world but in truth, there will be higher levels of deities, each believing themselves to be the true God. Perhaps 'divine knowledge' of various levels allows species to 'gain' levels of divinity and hence Celestia crushes those who get close. The concept of 'gaining divinity' is already visible with allogenes, Gnoses and archons. Perhaps the 'second throne' managed to 'outrank' Phanes and the three shades and take control of the world. Perhaps the Tsaritsa is collecting Gnosis to achieve the same; gain divinity higher than Celestia to overthrow them.

Theres an npc in aaru village who hints something like that. An insane scholar, she says that the heavens are above the archons and that God is above the heavens. She seems to imply that Celestia cannot control fate

I agree that the criteria for Archon is not just the strongest amongst the god, if Guizong did not die, she might became the Archon instead of Zhongli, and in current Liyue, if a new Archon is chosen, I think Ningguang will be qualified

Ireally loved this narrative dump, I think from the beginning of the game, it is kinda obvious that the game is trying to show us that celestia is evil, but I have always thought of it as kinda too simple,,,, so, the whole "Everyone is unreliable, no one being truly good or bad" makes sense to me. Plus, I like that aspect of narrative makes the genshin story more real world like.
