In this video, I go over the basics of building a competitive Toyota Celica GT-Four Alltrac rally car. Although this is a ST185, much on this info will be relavant to ST165 and ST205 chassis. Check parts out at: agileperformancenz.com/
Love that rear driveshaft disconnect! What a transmission saver. Thanks for sharing. I race my 205 here in Alaska - on ice, gravel, and asphalt. I'll be putting in a quaiffe LSD in the front next month. A little nervous about breaking something if I hand brake it much!
@@hawes_power5590 It's equivalent to autocross/gymkhana in that it's a good, cheaper way to get into the sport without spending so much money on car prep or event fees, etc. I'm glad that we have an active club here in Northwestern USA to compete in. We also have hill climbs, rally sprints, and full-on stage rally as well. Not sure if I want to build up my ST165 to that level (cheaper to just buy a prepped Subaru or something similar).
Love the clip. Thanks!! We have an RA40 Celica with a 3s-ge. We race gravel rally. We have a Toyota G series LSD. The car goes well but we have never changed anything on the suspension because we don't know what we are doing. I was going to remove the front sway bar. Is that recommended? What else can we do to improve handling? Is there a web site that you can recommend for info about RA40 suspension mods?
Sounds like a pretty cool car mate. removing a sway bar can be beneficial, but you will just have to test and see what works with your car. there are many factors that go into improving car dynamics, dampers and diffs have a big impact on rally cars. improve handling is a rather broad question, what exactly are you trying to acheive... suspensionsecrets.co.uk/ is an excellent read. good luck with your car1
Do you use the oem knuckles/bearings? It seems like people who track them often have to find some modern car to swap knuckles+bearings from since the stock celica ones burn up.
yes i use the oem bearing and knuckle. the prius knuckle is a common upgrade. the issue is the wheel bearing clearance, but there are other ways to fix it
to my knowledge, the blocks are on par strength wise with any other 3S. The heads have massive ports, ok for massive power figures, but the gen3/4 is a superior design for most application. the gen2 also has a poor oiling system prone to oil starvation.
@@hawes_power5590 same here bro I am a ex panel beater car painter... Based in Upper Kaipara area... Have had a lot of silly cars over the years but first time owner of a Celica GtFour.... Once my workshop is built I will get in touch with you about the build I would like to do with my 165
