Next life I want to born into the Romero family . . . Such a beautiful and loving family. i was lucky to spend time with them at their home when Celedonio was alive. A little poem for them: The Spanish Guitar Family, Los Romeros, A family so loving and true, Their gift to the world, a melody so pure, From the strings of their guitars they pour. Generations of music, passed down with care, A legacy that's lasted through time, The Romeros have shared, a love so rare, In every note, their passion shines. Their fingers dance, across the strings, A symphony of sound they create, A beautiful harmony, that music brings, As the world is serenaded and elate. So let us raise a glass, to the Spanish Guitar Family, Los Romeros, so proud and so bold, Their music will last, for all eternity, As they continue to unfold. For the gift of their music, we're grateful and blessed, For the memories they've created, we'll always be possessed, With a love for the Spanish Guitar, Los Romeros, have impressed. K.B.

I watched the Four Romero's at a college concert in the early sixties. I fell in love with the classical guitar then and there. At 73 it still plucks the strings of my heart.

Actually I was at that concert along with the rest of the Portland guitar concerts and have to say that Celino's tone from his Rodriguez was the most amazing I've heard yet. You cant tell from this video but live the younger Celino had a much stronger tone. Pops still sounded great. So nice to see father son combo....

Great guitar playing by the Romeros. Guitar and Spain are inextricably linked in their beautiful music. Without great art, ornament will be pretention, but with it, ornament need not be grudged. Even the simplest folk reserve their best food, dress, dance and music for their festivities. Would anyone grudge fine dress and food of even a modest couple on their wedding day ? After all, what is classical music but a refined and stylised playing or singing often of simple folk melodies ?

Pepe's elder brother and Pepe's nephew. Thank you for correcting me, dear Django Trombley! I saw Pepe Romero perform at London's Wigmore Hall, and was astounded by his effortless virtuosity and flair for Boccherini. Celedonio was a real poet on the guitar and a prolific composer!

considering the amount of overhead that comes with this style of music, the huge ancient wooden auditorium, the suits, the style of holding the guitar and sitting down, the amount of effort they put into every single note making sure it's perfect and rings out perfectly. Considering all of that I would think that the music would be better. I have heard guys on the street play way more complicated music than this without reading music and with far less rattling strings. And before you tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about. I was raised listening to classical music and I have played guitar for 17 years. This music, while beautiful, is not worth the overhead. There is a guy, Chris Thile that plays the most beautiful Bach I have ever heard and he plays all over the place, in any setting, and he gets all crazy, and the results are much, much more satisfying. All the pomp just gets in the way.

John Evans I could line up a dozen guitarists. Have them play their best. You probably would find fault in every player. There are those of us who appreciate the different ways different musicians express themselves. Sorry you don't appreciate the Romeros.
@eschelar
@eschelar 9 лет назад
John Evans On the other hand, do you not see the value in preserving some of the ceremony behind some of the higher end productions? This is clearly a fairly low-scale concert with an older member of the family mentoring a younger. Indeed, much of the fault with this music lies with the fact that the voices cannot be heard at the beginning and there is a redundant intro that has been included rather than tossed by an editor. But the mics are not set up to capture voice, they are there for the guitars and they do quite fine. While I don't discount guys like Chris Thile, if he could have an opportunity to play in a place like this, it would be amazing. The fact that he can make great music outside of an auditorium like this is to his credit for sure, but it doesn't really devalue music with higher production values. For every Chris Thile, you also have guys like Tom Ward, who if anything, are dumbing down classical music to make it accessible to the masses. This is not forward movement. It's like the movie "idiocracy". If the populace becomes stupider, the IQ of 100 (average for the general populace) goes down, so your IQ goes up. Tom can play OK for a street musician, but put him in an auditorium like this and give him something actually challenging and he's all thumbs. Style over substance is the way of the masses, but does not represent "better music". The problem would come if we devalued skill and *nobody* could play in a place like this. And nobody could play well enough to fill an auditorium like this.

you insulted an approach/ a style- dress/ the hall- this is a very important family - guitar wise- very important family- yes we hold the guitar this way as classical guitar players etc- yes I respect talented street musicians, musicians of all styles- research classical guitar- the history and the importance of this family - you insulted an approach - a lineage- a presentation- yes that is intolerant and mal informed!!

Lovely gentleman.. but, I'm sorry to say, we guitarists have inherited an awfully bad habit, that is, tuning in front of our audiences, making them wait for the tones to align correctly. What other instrumentalists do this? Not even the infamous harpist go on to such an extent as the classical guitarists. The violinists and cellists and the oldest seldom this ever subject their audiences to such rude behavior. Why do we feel it's a great privilege to watch a guitarist turn his six strings, which he had ample time to tune long beforehand, and which could not have changed all that much in the 30 seconds since backstage was left for front stage. Naughty naughty!
