Whitney sang this in her 20s, and Celine just sang it when she was 50 years old. Celine is much more than the greatest vocalist of all time, like Jimi, she has SO MUCH TALENT, she is a total genius, sings songs in 8 languages, sings any style of music, has received 1100 awards, she is funny, a total entertainer and has STAGE PRESENCE. Just a quick note, Jimi was much more than the greatest guitar player, pure genius.

Celine sang this song back in the late '80s, where she sang it more powerfully. This performance was more subdued, held back etc. Respectful of Whitney. Like Celine said " I can't sing it like you" but that doesn't mean she can't sing it well!!

Celine is a music fan. She loves music so much. Off the top of her head, she can sing a huge number of songs. A very nice tribute to Whitney. Gone too soon.

Take into consideration you’re comparing a 20 year old Whitney to a 50 year old Celine.

Celine definitely did that song justice and with that being said her being able to pull that off with the age difference when Whitney originally sang that song to Celine’s age performing the song. She’s a vocal genius.

I hope that if she ever sings this song again, she’ll feel free to add more of her own tricks and vocal stylings to it. This was a tribute so she don’t want it to be more respectful.

One thing people forget to consider in the mix when they compare - which is silly to do anyway - is output, longevity and vocal health and how the singers treated their instruments. Céline started singing at 5 and had NINE albums by the time she was 18. Her first tour was 1985 when she was 22. Whitney was 22 when her FIRST album came out - of only 7. Céline has 27. Then think of the tours. And the Vegas residencies. And God bless Whitney but she abused her voice with drugs and lost it :( Mariah has always had vocal nodes and singing with that is liable to bring damage over time... Celine has lost a bit of range but she is so well trained and disciplined that she has managed it really well. That's a whole area people just don't know about or understand what it takes. Not to mention, you'll never hear anything but compliments from people in the business about her kindness. None of that is easy. She is amazing.

Whitney Houston made the blueprint and is top of that Trinity. Mariah and Celine credit Whitney as their influence so therefore their songs, vocal interpretation still will find hints of the one who inspired them. Here, Celine did a great tribute and rendition in mostly her own style. And that's the point in honoring such a great icon who set the bar so high going on to change the music and the world. .. pop music, little black and brown girls, even white girls with a dream to be that international pop superstar first ever diva to change the face of MTV in music videos and mainstream like MJ in the 80s where we all know required a few pioneers. I credit Whitney as the main source leading the 90s decade rise of female singers empowered by the independent strong woman movement giving us the best in R&B, stage production and so breakout artists and bestselling girl bands... the space could feel overwhelmed and too short lived for some. Thus, making some a bit more underrated like great vocalists in their own league: Toni Braxton, Deborah Cox and Tamia. And with the tabloids exploiting singers pitting some against each other but it didn't work in the end with Mariah, Whitney and Celine. They still try as you said these days... always that one. Lol I like them all in their own right, but Whitney is my favorite for not only her sound, but impact on those greats who came after. They credit her blueprint that started it all because of her connection to songs, seamless flow between registers and marketability in an age where blending genres as a black pop artist who could sing soul too was nearly impossible. Whitney could give her studio songs a thousand different versions on stage. Those live concert versions of popular songs could be standalone hits themselves. Not to mention raising the bar to our national anthem making it nerve wracking for singers who had to follow that act. It's like hearing Dolly Parton version and remembering the original singer and songwriter .. but recognizing the talented Whitney ability to not only hit high notes... building a song, stage command and storytelling was her gift to us all and why she's called the "voice".

For me there are angel that falling from the sky. Whitney, Celine, Lara Fabian… sings like angels and without making force. They sing like they take air. Sopranos with hig notes without force. My angels!!!

Also with Celine, her accent is something that she has had to work on - especially at the beginning of her career - her articulation tends to have that French lilt (which is understandable seeing as how she's French Canadian) so her vowels aren't always as open as they could be. Her breath control is outstanding and her range is just spectacular. Like you said Dominic, Celine is humble enough to respect Whitney and other vocalists that she holds on a higher level to herself. In my opinion she well deserves to be classed as one of the Holy Trinity without question. The measure of a great vocalist is that they don't compare themselves to any of the others but acknowledge them as peers and colleagues.

There will never be another Whitney. There was just something about her that made you love her. She was so beautiful inside and out! Then, she would sing and man, took you to a whole planet!! Such power and control and range, it was so effortless! And the way she would smile WHILE she was singing, it was so signature to her and something I will always remember about her. Grew up on her music, love it to this day. Man is she missed...gone far too soon. Celine did a fantastic job singing this tribute to Whitney! Such a classy and talented woman herself! She absolutely belongs in the conversation with Whitney and Mariah!!
