Karen Pommeroy: This famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that "cellar door" is the most beautiful.
Just so everyone knows this song isn't about a serial killer really its about a guys girlfriend killing herself and how he's trying to remember her and how upset he is that she is dead
Dying is your latest fashion is based on death, in all sorts of ways! Cellar door is about death, Not good enough for the truth in cliché is about death, Dragging dead bodies in blue bags up really long hills is about death even though it was on a different record it's in a way related to DIYLF, there's no sympathy for the dead, Reverse this curse talks about a funeral, Situations talks about a girl who rocks the style of dying, which means she must be dead to him! and she's rocking that style so very well! when I go out I want to go out on a chariot of fire talks about a girl who dies as well, this album was mainly about love, but Ronnie doesn't describe his love in the generic romantic way! he describes it through darkness and bitter pain so we can feel the inside of his heart and how its tearing up so we can see how much these situations really meant to him. Cellar door is not meant to be taken literally, it's a made up story, all of his songs refer to death in a metaphorical way but any way, cellar door is about a girl, and his girl is a girl whom he loved so much and he was so in love with her but in this story she dies of an unknown reason, most likely a drug over dose, but he finds her and drags her body to the cellar, which is the darkest pace, (his heart) is the darkest place, which he talks about in "reverse this curse" (and to the girl, that filled my dark) well he lays her out on a canvas and kisses her, because he loved her, and now she's melting because despite the fact that he loved her she wasn't true, she was fake, full of lies and deceit, he also says he would scatter her in art forms, and admire her, he's being sarcastic, because he's also insulting her by calling her a whore which means she slept around and that means it broke his heart cause he loved her, and now the people who she slept with are starting to love her more! because they are a bunch of guys who got their hearts broken by her, and they love her better now that shes dead. her eyes in the glass means her face is in a portrait on the wall, for every body to see it free of charge, and if you watch Scooby doo, you've seen how villians always hide behind paintings and use other peoples faces as a mask to hide behind, well that's what he's referring to, not Scooby doo but by wearing her face as a mask. and the chorus is simply a basic way of saying that she's dead in a coffin awaiting her judgment by God, like the drug like the change in the pain,it goes on for so long, is just a metaphor for how long she will be down there, how long it takes to get the drug out of your system, to get rid of the addiction, and how long it takes to get over the pain. THE END. because too many people misinterpret this song so bad.
and Ronnie told you this himself? Olivia Moungaloa also this song does not take place at a park in La, it takes place in a cellar...& Ronnie isn't a murder in this song, and no where in this song does it speak of her being sliced in half. she's just found dead moments after she was yelling from the hallway, obviously a drug overdose or heart attack or whatever but not a murder.
I honestly don't think this song is as literal as everyone is taking it. It is a beautiful song though, there's just something about it, I can't explain it. It's a song that's ALWAYS stuck with me.
Someone once told me this song reminded them of me. 4 years too late I finally understood the message. I feel like I've being blind my entire life. always knew this song. since before all of that. jesus. eyes wide shut.
This is absolutely my fav song of escape the fate, I swear I always wanna come back. ~ < 3 So much bad memories ugh.... but the song bring it on a very beautiful way : )
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE WONDERING: The song meaning is that (The Band old etf) walked into the doorway then they heard ronnies girlfriend screaming from the hall and found her in the bedroom dead. The then dragged her to the cellar (HENSE THE SONG NAME) and they put candles around her the wax melted and he kissed her, the sad thing is it was on a true story and the begining of the song is: We walk through the doorway heard you calling from the hall(heard her screaming) and so on look the lyrics
I don't think ETF will ever be as good as they were with Ronnie.. He's got a voice that can't be replaced and a style of writting that can't be matched!
I haven't listened to this since I was in 10th grade maybe, and I completely forgot it existed. But hearing it again, I'm obsessed with it just as much as I was when I first heard it
at first when I heard this song I thought it meant a girl died and someone close found her and is dealing with the loss as others around him start to see the good in her, and appreciate her more. I the part when he say, "If I could take you somewhere ect." I imagined him taking pictures and keepsakes down into the cellar and making a shrine to her, making paintings, photo collages and various art forms. I also imagined at one point the girl as a ghost seeing the shrine, examining it and weeping. she then sees him laying on the ground, a tear on his cheek as he is fast asleep. She then laid down next to him and petted his head. the moment his eyes flickered open, she disappeared. I also thought at another point that the girl might have been bullied and after her death the loved one sees that the ones who bullied her were ashamed of them selves and paid their respects for her forgiveness, yet even in death, waiting, she still goes through memories of pain. Now yes I know it's all about heroine but this is still a pretty good guess~
Daniel, basically this song got me into Escape the Fate and metal slowly grew on me. And eventually it kept getting heavier and heavier until I listened to deathmetal!
Recently been revisiting all the emo songs my partner and I used to listen to when we first got together back in college. Most of them this band! I forgot how great this song is after not listening to it for years! 😍😍
Daniel Heard Don't have high expectations for this album because if you do, you could be disappointed. Basically what i'm saying is have low expectation and that way, if it's really good, you'll get a good surprise. But yeah I'm really worried about how consistent this album will be. Especially if it's a sequel to DIYLF. I don't know what you've heard about this 3rd album but i know that it's really heavy in some parts with screams, it's very progressive and it's got a 90's rock feel to it? :)
julio santiago Yeah...so far. Have you seen the Rocksound review of each song for the new album yet? They've already listened to it and some guy from it tells us what each songs sounds like...?
Trinity Sullivan the song is about the ritual involved with death and rebirth and each time you are reborn you come back as a 'better you' "now they/we are starting to love you more, your body is on the canvas I painted on the floor" as in another cycle added to the death and rebirth, and by canvas he is referring to a ritual circle drawn on the floor where the body is. "your face is pale your body's cold, and down below your veins run dry your vacant eyes" talking about the soul being tortured in hell for eternity "as you wait, like the drug like the change in the pain it goes on, for so long". and even about possession by the rebirthed soul "your eyes in the glass, wear your face as a mask. now we are starting to love you more" see the infinite loop in the lyrics? People call this death magic and it's the core of satanic practices.
PapaBearRaver420 huh I didn't get the death and rebirth thing at all, necrophilia actual sounds a lot closer. The way I perceived the song is a serial killer and the way he sees the woman who is his victim. who knows though maybe I'm just a sick fuck haha.
I always thought it was about being an addict... Your hands on picture frames your eyes in the glass wears your face as a mask..... Now they are starting to love you more... like doing lines you know seeing your reflection but know thats not really you its just the addict in you.... and becoming addicted you truly start to love your disease. Plus painted eyes is a term for having dialated eyes for getting high
"And oh, how it hurts in the worst way, now that you're gone... It's so wrong." This...made me cry because I have a friend that will leave me eventually to move on with her life. I love her... but one day, I'll have to say goodbye...
i think its saying we fell in love by saying walking through door way, like they opened up to eachother, he heard her calling from the hall, i think this is more literal like she was cheating on him n u could hear her, cuz then he opens the door and shes dead, i think he means more like she died in his mind right there, and dragged her to the darkest place which would now be the empty space where his heart used to be and she caused it so thats why he put her there, sayin where his heart used to be will now only be a dark memory of how shes dead to him, the painting on the canvass is the scar of her memory left there now...
To me it describes elizabeth shorts death because she wanted to be famous then her body was put up on display as an art form.. im hoping people notice that this song is about her death
