Great interview. I saw Laurence Lesser's inspiring performance of the Bach Suites in Turner Hall at Vanderbilt University in 2011, and my spirit was crushed as I had to leave in between movements to go to work at my wearisome job. The performance was refreshing with fluid contours and subtle dynamic bowings, and the audience was stilled by Mr. Lesser's exceptional and memorable performance. It was like being in the presence of complete serenity and bliss, and then returning to utterly dejected misery where the void of the beautiful performance was filled with the gnashing of teeth (and the clanging of silverware). :) Shortly thereafter, I composed the "Prelude" movement of my Cello Suite No. 1, which was recorded and premiered by cellist, Michael Samis.
