This was a great help to every Celpip taker. However, in my opinion, this would have been better if the speaker could give us his own answer. Just like what Brandi does. That way we could have a better understanding on how to express our answer easier & faster. Just my two cents.

I made a suggestion that the dog is better as you find more breeds to choose from, people may get allergy from cats sometime and cats can get aggressive sometime to unknown people while dogs are more friendly.

How can I select a test date if I live in Mexico and due to Covid I think the Canadian Embassy is closed?

Hi MC Jasso. We are working hard to open as many new testing locations as possible. However, at the moment we don't have any CELPIP test centres in Mexico. You will have to be present at one of our existing test centres in these locations : www.celpip.ca/take-celpip/where-do-we-test/.

Sometimes this test sounds unfair, for example, task 7. Only 30 seconds to read, understand, prepare and come up with good ideas to have a level 9 !!

That's the catch. I do believe these tests are made to give a hard time to test takers. I've been practicing quite a while, and think in two ideas and give details are not an easy task.

What if the pace is fast of a test taker? Since, all of these task takers in the video are speaking at slow pace.

Hi Aditi. Our CELPIP raters look for intelligibility, clear and precise descriptions or details within the allotted time in the speaking test. For Speaking Task 7, you'll need to answer yes or no to the test question. Once you have chosen your position, you'll want to think of two or three reasons why you feel that way, and support each reason with plenty of specific details to effectively fill 90 seconds of talking time.

The exam is kind of subjective and not very general. I have never had a pet so I cannot judge between cats and dogs. How can I know the advantages of one on top of the other?

Hi Rozanni. All questions on the CELPIP test are based on daily life occurrences. The test question you are referring to asks people to recommend either a cat or a dog as a pet to a couple looking to buy a pet for their home. Although not everyone has owned a pet in real life, cats and dogs are such common animals, that most people would be able to identify a few benefits of owning one of them. For example, I myself have never owned a pet, but I know others who have dogs. From what I've observed in real life, I see that dogs make wonderful companions for their owners, they protect their owners and family members from threats like other hostile dogs, or strangers, and they can even help their owners to socialize as I often see dog owners talking at designated dog parks while their pets run around and play. These are the types of details, or observations, that Test Takers are encouraged to incorporate into their answers on the test. - Brandi
