As always, I love the way you teach this method of knot making!! I taught a whole new crop of middle schoolers (since I wrote to you a few years ago) this week and they loved it! One of them learned the knot in class and an hour later showed me a whole cross that he made without instruction! It was beautiful! He was so proud of it! (He did it during his Latin class which followed my art class. Yikes!) More fans for you! Thank you, again!
Pam, how wonderful! Please give my love to your children, especially the one who made the cross. I'm glad he was proud of it and it makes me feel good that my video was of some value to him. Take care, Dx
David, Thank you so much for showing us how to draw Celtic knots. Your method is so doable and accessible. I appreciate your step-by-step approach and generosity in sharing your techniques. Blessings!
I'm so glad I bumped into this - I can't wait to watch the rest of the series. Thank you so much for such a clear tutorial. My lines are a bit shaky, but it''s the first Celtic knot I've drawn that's recognizable. As others have said, I've set aside a sketchbook just for practice.
Greetings from Finland! I found your method very helpful - circles and tangents instead of just dots turned out to be just the thing I needed to figure out where the lines go. I don't consider myself particularly 'good' at drawing, my previous experience with any kind of knot designs are limited to calligraphy borders with two strands crossing over and under, and I've attempted a few more intricate designs a couple of days ago based on other tutorials I found on RU-vid. Now, thanks to your helpful series of videos, two days later I've completed a 10x12 grid pattern with several stop lines resulting in a total of 10 interlinking strands (mind blown!) and I've been working on another intricate project today. A huge and warm thank you for giving me the tools I needed to be creative!
+Kasha Kasha, I'm delighted that you found my videos helpful. Thank you for taking the trouble to comment. I hope the designs go well. I'm just starting a series of videos on calligraphy, so stay subscribed if you're interested. David
Can't believe you have only two comments - you are the best tutor on RU-vid. You have a simple yet effective way of demonstrating these techniques. I'm hooked. Thank you.
This is just awesome, Thank you so much ! I’ve been looking for something like this for quite a while but I did not know it was called Celtic knots. Thanks once again !
Well, I watched the "redone" version of your first video, then found the cache of all 21 and wanted to start at the beginning so watched this one too - both are fine, in my opinion, and now I look forward to watching (and trying) every one of them, thanks so much for providing such good instructions and examples! I am just beginning to try this new (old) craft! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for posting these tutorials. You've totally demystified drawing knotwork for me. I've been wanting to learn so I could develop patterns for jewellery pieces but had no idea how to go about it. I love your teaching style - frank and straight forward.
Grate tutorial. It was easy to follow. I'm making a mirror for my wife and decided to burn Celtic Knots into the frame. Thanks so much for this and the rest of the videos you have done. You helped me out immensely.
You're brilliant! I've several books that do not explain it nearly so well, and I am drawing them better than I ever have before. Definitely subscribing, and watching the rest of your tutorials. :) Thank you, sir.
Thank you! I enjoy your teaching style and subject matter very much. I am filling my sketch book one by one with each design and look forward to each new project.
Thank you very much for these videos David - I just found your channel a few days ago and I think its great. I drew my first Celtic cross today with the help of your tutorial. Im Irish so this is great to be able to learn something like this.
Thanks so much for the clear step by step instructions. I drew a 3 X 4 square knot the very first time and I'm thrilled with the results. I've started a notebook to practice more knots and feel I can really produce some fine work.
***** David's videos are the best tutorials I've come across to learn the Celtic Design. His teachings are accurate, easy to follow, and just plain beautiful. I've started with #1 and working thru all the videos.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I never thought I'd be able to draw any of these designs, but you explain it so clearly that it has become easy for me now.
as we say in german: 'the knot finally came undone', which means, ' i finally got it'. was struggling with many other instruction videos and failed, couldn't figure out how to do it. no one explained it like this. with this video: instant success. thank you very much! i am eager to continue now with your videos of celtic knots.
This was awesome thank you. Cracked me up when you said "I've been told I can only take five minuets because people don't have the attention span. 😂😂😂😂
Can't please everyone - and why would you want to? As Coco Channel once said, "I don't care what you think of me, because I don't think of you at all."
Thanks sooo much for your excellent and clearly thoughtout celtic not pattern tutorial! I've been wanting to use this type of pattern on a few of my wood turnings and your video has given me the opportunity to attempt it. Again, Thanks for this and your other videos!
Tinkabell7409 Glad you found them useful Tinkabell. David PS Tinkabell - have you seen my magic fairy? look at the playlist called Freehand Spacefilling Designs. More to come - stay subscribed.
length 3 height two, but the length can go to infinity if you want. Amazing demonstration of how to draw, but also how the design is put together!! I will be coming back to this video...
This knowledge that you are so generously sharing is greatly appreciated. The design is so beautiful, yet it's only some lines and circles, strategically connected. What does it mean, David? It makes me feel emotional.
the lines and circles strategically match up to make lovely designs. All the circuits and wires that enable us to communicate like this. It's amazing. I'll admit I don't understand it. I should have paid attention more in school.
Do we give a rat's farthing what "they" say about the length of a video? I think "knot"!! LOL! You are a great teacher; I appreciate your frankness, your understanding of the subject, and your accent!! And yes, I subscribed! Looking forward to practicing and watching your other videos!
Thank you so much for the videos. May I say I think you are pretty funny. I'm going to make a wood carving of Celtic knots. You have made my time drawing the designs so much faster. Thanks again.
Wow, I love this method! This will keep me busy for quite some time, probably NOT out of trouble but at least busy. :-) I'll be taking my carving and painting to another level I'm sure. Thanks for posting this series, great job man.
Thank you! Very helpful. (I wouldn't worry about people's attention-span : if it really is so short, they can always return to the video later. Besides, you are very easy to listen to.)
Thank you so much for this clear and instructive video! Can this technique be adapted to draw the pattern around a cylinder in the horizontal direction?
Thank you SOOO much for this video. I swear, I have tried to follow countless videos prior to finding yours and I just felt like I was a complete idiot because I could follow along but I didn't grasp the big picture of the interlocking strands and each time I tried to replicate the pattern on my own, well...it was sad. But I did it!! Thank you!!
Awesome tutorial Sir. A lovely way to teach without using graph paper might I add. Also, even if your videos were to be more than 5 minutes, I would still watch them. Have a lovely day.
***** I posted links to your videos in my most recent blog post on Celtic design. collagediva.typepad.com/collagediva/2015/03/celtic.html Thanks again!
You rock... Please do include more detailed tutorials for those of us who do have a longer attention span!! That made me laugh... Thanks for all of your hard work!!
