Celtic Woman performing "Bean Phaidin" during the "Destiny" Show. Live from the Round Room at the Mansion House, Dublin Susan McFadden, Mairead Carlin, Eabha McMahon
You know, people always talk about Mairead being the last original member, but I think they're forgetting the drummer! That guy's been there as long as I can remember, and he's awesome, too!
+Jess Caron I typed "bean phaidin" in my search engine and came up with several sites that had translations of the lyrics. The version the girls do seems to have some differences in some of the lyrics, though. It could be that lyrics have been rewritten over time and there are several versions of the song.
I did know that, but you are MISSING THE POINT HERE, MOIRA O'SULLIVAN WITH A BUNCH OF EXTRA LETTERS THAT WERE PROBABLY PUT IN THERE JUST TO ANNOY THE REST OF THE WORLD
So true. In the original Gaelic lyrics, she was hunting for Phaidin's wife and said 'may all you bones break'. It was funny, and how the tune is so upbeat. Haha!
Mairead C. looks so mischievous, but oh so sweet, while she's apparently singing the mistress? role. M.C. has some of the best stage presence and really gets in character. She's awesome...they all are.
In many ways, DESTINY is the most... honest... purely Gaelic... thing Celtic Woman has ever done. and after attending the CONCERT at a great venue in Boise, ID... one of my favorites. Every song is intimately galactic in its presence.
These respected women has been created just like an another gener. They are singer and musicians too. This kind of music is a rare collections. Thanks for uploading.
That's Ray Fean. And yes, he's now the only original left, with the departure of Máiréad Nesbitt. Ray keeps pounding those Tympani's and beating that Bodhrán.
For all the non Gaelic people It's a great pity that I'm not, that I'm not It's a great pity that I'm not Páidín's wife It's a great pity that I'm not, that I'm not And the woman that he has to be dead I would go to Galway, to Galway And I would go to Galway with Páidín I would go to Galway, to Galway And I would return in the boat with him [Chorus] Oh, I go to Galway, to Galway, Oh, I go to Galway with Páidín Oh, we go to Galway together And sail away home in a báidín [Chorus] I look through the window, the window I look through the window for Páidín His wife is just sitting there, knitting While I'm stuck outside in the garden I wish I was wedded, was wed, I wish I was wedded to Páidín He's chosen to marry another And that is the cause of my raging I would go to an Clochán And west by Béal Á' na Báighe I would look in through the windows I would spot Páidín's wife [Chorus] I wish he were taken, were taken The beautiful wife of my Páidín He'd not be forsaken, forsaken I'd still take my place there beside him [Chorus] May your legs be broken, be broken May your legs be broken, Páidín's wife May your legs be broken, be broken May your legs and your bones be broken.
technically she only wishes death upon the wifw of Phaidin, she never says she actually plans to do it. But yeah, still disturbing; especially for such a cheerful song.
With the addition of Eabha McMahon I think this group just came back together and feels like Celtic Woman again. I also think that Susan has gotten better and has found her niche in the group. While the members individual last year was very good it just didn't feel like Celtic Woman.
If your speaking of Lynn Hilary since 2014 her taking over for Lisa Lambe, she is a former original CW member since 2007. Alex and Meav, and Lynn rotated in 2015 for the anniversary tour and are all former past member's. Past member's are Celtic Woman and these 3 have made the sound of Celtic Woman!
no, Lisa Lambe is now a former, she decided to pursue solo at the end of 2014 right before the debut start of CW's Tenth Anniversary! = ) She may return and participate in the future.
The three members last year in Spring 2015 Meav, Lynn & Alex are Ambassadors of the first originals of Celtic Woman. Meav is one the Original Four! X The Anniversary Celebrated these three real CW members.
doug112244 LP My thoughts entirely, also I like new violinist Tara McNeil she's a little more understated than Mairead but I like her.this is now more like the old Celtic woman.we use to know and love.

it's ok if you don't have it, I ordered the DVD and it's going to take a few weeks to get here so I was sneak peaking it on youtube, thank you so much for these videos rlv70
+rlv70 We have recorded Méav's songs on our Meav Celtic Songbird Official Face Book Forum if you would like to hear Meav sing it...She is just adorable!!
I enjoy listening to Celtic Woman. There's never a day that I haven't forgotten to take sometime out of the day to listen to them. Is Eabha McMahon the young lady at the beginning of this wonderful video?
Gee....People never changes. Our ancestors wrote countless love songs about broken hearts and woe is me because I didn't get the lass or lad for centuries and we still do in a generic pop music.
I always loved this song, and I've always wondered what the lyrics meant. Now that I know, I will try to forget it. It's so much better when you don't know what you are singing.
This song reminds me of an old one my school used to sing about one of our ancestors. The words were in a different language, but the tune itself was to 'can't fight the moonlight', and had a joyful twist to it. The song itself, however, was about someone seeking revenge for his brother's murder, so he slaughtered the murderer and everyone in his tribe leaving no survivors. :)
At least I'm pretty sure they will never be able to find someone to fill in for Mairead she is the only one I know from my first discovery of this fantastic group...
My son (he's two) loves the songs. This one, he wants me to sing the very beginning. I try to "dee doo dee" along. He's not buying it. Ha! Anyone with a good ear able to write it phonetically?
I never noticed before, but I saw Eabha live on Instagram not long ago where she explained how she would get lost directionally sometimes. I see it here. She even stopped singing at one point to find her place.
'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte Rachainn go Gallaí' go Gallaí' Is rachainn go Gallaí' le Pháidín Rachainn go Gallaí' go Gallaí' Is thiocfainn abhaile sa mbád leis 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte Oh I got to go, got to go, got to go away with Páidín Oh we get to go, we're together And say the way home in the Páidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte I look through the window, the window I look through the window for Páidín His wife is just sitting there, knitting While I'm stuck outside in the garden I wish I was wedded Was wed, I wish I was wedded to Páidín He's chosen to marry another And that is the cause of my raging Rachainn go haonach an Chlocháin Is siar go Béal Á' na Báighe Bhreathnóinn isteach tríd an bhfuinneog A' súil is go bhfeicfinn bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte I wish he were taken, were taken The beautiful wife of my Páidín He'd not be forsaken, forsaken I'd still take my place there beside him 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise bean Pháidín 'S é'n trua ghéar nach mise, nach mise 'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte
But so very Irish in a deep woodsy sort of way. Even after they accepted Jesus, well before any real Catholics came, they were still the Irish- honesty isn't always friendly, if you know what I mean!
As G. K Chesterton wrote in "The Ballad of the White Horse", “The great Gaels of Ireland are the men that God made mad, For all their wars are merry, and all their songs are sad.”
