If you've dived the Riviera Maya, chances are you have at least heard of Cenote Nariz. Located at the end of a bumpy drive (you get to shake your head as you cross under the Tren Maya development, too), this is one of the cenotes that are beautiful just as soon as you submerge.
It's also a large cenote, making it perfect for a DPV dive. On this dive, I had a chance to dive in a mixed team with Nikola Kuzmanovic and try a true classic - one of the original Gavin scooters. But let's talk about the mixed team part for a bit. It's something I've written about before: darkhorizondiv....
This was Nikola and my first dive together, so before heading for the cenote, we had met for a coffee and actually had a chat about how we liked to dive, set parameters for this dive and made a plan.
And that's the plan we followed. These scooters were new to me, and they needed a bit more handling than some of the newer models. So that meant that more of my attention had to go toward the scooter. I think I filmed less than 30 seconds during the first 30 minutes of the dive.
Anyway, hopefully, you enjoy getting this somewhat different perspective on a cave that is huge in parts and therefore hard to light! Lighting got easier in the smaller tunnels, though they made scootering tougher. The result? A really enjoyable dive, but at the same time a dive that commandeered respect. Luckily, the Kiss Sidewinder made it easy and comfortable to manage the dive.
