The creator of the video died in 2015. In his bio he says he's a radio guy in south Texas, and if you look into it, you can find articles talking about his death and remembering him. It coincides with when he stopped uploading too. What a shame, this was a really good piece.
I was expecting a shitpost but I genuinely and unironically liked this. The surreal atmosphere, the psychedelic synth music, the grainy, pixelated look, everything. This is really cool.
As far as I know this music was never released commercially. A friend of mine in NYC and another friend of his were putting this stuff together as demo cuts back in the early 90's. This video I made and their music ran on a NYC cable tv show then. My NYC friend is kind of hard to reach at the moment, but I'll email him and ask..might be some old tapes around. JIM
It's not only nostalgia. If this wasn't a bad tape recording, it'd look like something from MS Paint. The fact that it was manipulated that way makes it more important.
The music was made by a guy in California, who, sorry to say has since died. He, along with my friend in NYC were in the process of producing an album..which now won't happen. I made the animation for them which ran on an NYC cable show at the time.
"Forgive the intrusion, my lady - I did not intend to offend your eye. For I am vile, loathsome creature and I have crawled in here to die" Why does that intrigue me so much? i am somehow inspired by that line.
Sad to hear the animator passed away, because this is genuinely impressive for what constraints he had to work with at the time. I'm glad he's gotten the attention he deserves through this video. I do wonder who his "friend" is however, the one he mentioned who created the song accompanying the animation.
Really sucks to come back to this video, years later, to find out Jim is dead :(. Back in 2011 i remember messaging him about being able to hear more of his friends music, and he wanted to see if he could sort something out about uploading it. But i guess it never came to be. Rest in peace.
There may be some music still around that my friend in NYC has, but I believe the guy who made that track and most of the others, has died. He and my NYC friend were planning on doing more stuff together, but that was put on hold, in this world anyway. Jim
Thanks, I'm not an animator.. just like to play with video when the mood strikes me. I mainly do part time voice work and some video editing when it's available. Most of the time I need a kick in the rear to get me motivated to do something.. lol.. JIM
On 'Center Core' I used Deluxe Paint III, a very easy pgm. to figure out, even without the manual.. It was one of my favorite programs.. too bad it was never properly ported over to Windows.. if It were, I'd rush out and buy it today.. Jim
GoldKnightProduction Your comment confuses me, either you don't know that this was made In the 90s, or you know something I don't and this wasn't made in the 90s, or maybe my view on the 90s is skewed and misinterpreted, or maybe something else entirely. I really don't know. Can you please elaborate?
Zeit Geist I realize this was made in the 90s, which is why they used the effect. The old technique was used because it was the only thing available at the time. I'm just calling it old-school because it doesn't get used anymore.
hey guys, just arrived, i came here because $uicideboy$ has a song like the name of the video and i wanted to see if there was any relation between the video and the song. a greeting The video is great. PS: I don't speak English, if you could write me what it says, I would really appreciate it.
+justletmelistthese because we are missing this kind of stuff. I originally found this song in early 2009. I could not believe it has been that long ago, until I checked the playlist I added it too.
Thanks.. The video quality isn't all that hot since it was posted before You Tube started allowing high quality uploads.. One of these days I'll make a better video..
Linklgas the black hole would be so small, it probably would decay in a few seconds of our time. The entire galaxy would only last seconds, a beautiful spark that fades back into the black nothingness it came from. The black hole would be the last something in a space of eternal nothing, in a last spectacular explosion this too would end.
"Forgive the intrusion m'lady. I did not intend to offend your eye, For I am a vile gruesome creature, And I've crawled in here to die." Story of my life
Years ago when I first heard this I was sucked in by the hypnotic rythms and the surreal visual style. If someone was to duplicate this feel with the commodore graphics styling, the couplet or prose poetry and the eerie post-rock music style; it would have its detractors, but it would create a cult following.
Hey, another follower of the U M A M I! Nice to see you all the way out here! In all seriousness though DaPistolPat, he's absolutely right, it's a great RU-vid channel, you should definitely check it out.
Also check out PilotRedSun. He does pretty similar videos to this one and composes the music himself. They aren't exactly post-rock, but capture the same feeling. Sadly he hasn't uploaded in a year, but he still creates music on his second channel.
I keep coming back to watch this video. Actually incredible when you think of the technology Jim Wilson made this on and I've now been working my way through his other videos. Seems like he was a really creative guy who knew how to make thought-provoking and captivating videos and I was sad to hear of his death. I am also really digging the art style of this video and the general atmosphere with the incredible post-rock music. Anyone else noticed that the author of the book the lady on the train is reading is "Semaj Nosliw" which is James Wilson backwards?
@darkfalken42 I've heard about emulators.. but don't know anything about them or what's needed to set them up.. I have a lot of old Amiga pgms. that I'd like to run again, but my old 500 is in need of a boot floppy drive to work again. I've still have an external drive for it that maybe I could take apart and install internally, I don't know. I have all the original anims on Amiga floppy that would be nice to transfer over in a good quality digital cam....Maybe someday.
I get that the video creator passed away years ago, but the thought that this song might be kicking around on a cassette someone haunts me. I've done a ton of searches over the years and can't find a single other song by this band :(
@@toodlebug500 I do enjoy The Residents, though my favorite album is probably the Commercial Album. It's just not scratching the same itch :( Plus the lost media angle really makes me want it y'know?
@@rivetsquid8887 I get ya. I was really surprised how similar it sounds to The Telescope though. I heard this first actually and was listening to The Voice of Midnight album and that track came on and I was instantly reminded of this video, I keep returning to it.
Came here from Ethereal Snake's playlist of inspirations. This is amazing work, a beautiful mix of sound and visuals. I hope it continues to inspire other artists to do their craft before the inevitable grace of death. Keep your memory alive somehow, take this as a sign to love your art and always challenge yourself new ways to combine what is already around us and make something new and fresh. Creative new ways to express yourself, and get your message across. The world deserves our art.
WHY DOES EVERYONE ALWAYS NEED AN EXPLANATION? why cant people just enjoy someones art and view on sur reality? its like asking whats the point of the mona lisa or all that abstract art in the museum :O
I think the woman lived a pretty miserable life, and her only escape was keeping her nose constantly buried in a book. She lived in a crappy neighborhood where the electronics shop constantly hocked materialistic crap (which only reminded her more both of how shallow people are and of how poor she was), and she was disillusioned with the life she had built for herself. When that vile and loathesome creature approached her in the hallway, at first she was scared. But then, when she saw his ability to let go from life and ascend to a higher plane, she was so inspired that she decided to join him, seeing it as a preferable alternative to the world she lived in. And for all we or any of the bystanders gathered in front of her place know, she's much happier after life than she was during it. That's my interpretation, and just thinking of it gave me an even greater appreciation for this wonderful piece of art.
well because there’s art that makes sense, that is trying to portray something or an ideal or a point, but it’s incredibly cunning in presenting it in a way so that it may keep its obscurity, in which case im all for analyzing it and trying to come up with an explanation, or even getting it from the artist themselves
