Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Use the hand that is most comfortable for YOU! Server here with almost 30 years experience. I am thoroughly Right Handed. I carry my tray (cocktail, dinner, and banquet trays) in my Right Hand, my Dominant hand. Why you ask? Because carrying and balancing a tray is The Hard Part, especially when in a crowded room. Serving from the tray is the easier part. I use my dominant hand for the hard part, if I had to use my Left Hand, my weaker hand, for balancing (which you do, not only when carrying, but also serving-you have to rebalance while serving each drink) If I had to use my left, I'd certainly drop a lot of drinks. Same for me with large, oval dinner trays. Understand that most people's arms are stronger on the side of their dominant hand. My right arm is definitely stronger than my left (even before I started serving. lol) and at 5'2" I never would have been able to carry 10 banquet dinners on one tray with my weaker left arm. Now all that being said, I know a ton of right handed servers that use their left hands to carry. And that's perfectly fine. All I am saying is do what is comfortable for YOU, and not listen to someone arbitrarily telling you which hand to use.
Simple right? But when these glasses and plates are full, it's not as easy anymore. Every tutorial on youtube is showing these things with empty plates and glasses and no knives/forks/spoons/cups/cup holders, etc. Not realistic
Agree, it's not hard to fill the glasses with some water, however may still hold good information and your employer should provide certain specifics if they want it done a certain way. (For example we're all expected to use a left-handed carry, regardless of whether you're left or right handed, we don't load our own tray for friendliest distrubution and only use it for glasses, nothing else. However we can communicate if less experienced to not be expected to carry out trays of 15+ beers.)
It's actually easier to carry heavier weight up to a certain point(not too heavy) because when it's heavier things don't slide when you are in a hurry ( every waiter knows what im talking about)
Agree.. my work wants me to carry trays with 2 pints of beer, 2 tall full champagne glasses, 2 white wine glasses and 2 red wine glasses.. all full to greet guests as they come in. I HATE it.
As a restaurant and hotel service expert for 35 years in all types of services, and I have received reviews from all over the world and from American magazines specialized in this field, I tell you that you are correct in some things, but your carrying the cup is wrong. The cup is supposed to be carried from the bottom of the heel and not from the top of the cup... and you should not bend your chest too much. Customer hand, greetings to you
and now do that when you serve different tables with different glass sizes and drinks...i put my glasses for each table together when i go from table to table..
Thats great , but if actual people did sit in those seats you would be hitting every single person in the back of their heads. Also dont touch the top off those glasses. Its not very good tbh
😂 I mmight be the only server that loves a tray. One of mmy team-mmates hated themm. Again, after almost 40 years of service -develop good and hygenic habits. ALWAYS place & pick-up glasses by the stem or near the base; NEVER put fingers inside clean OR dirty glasses!!! I tell this to new staff (unexperienced) and it is aggravating that I have to keep saying this to experienced servers. One even told mme, "It doesn't mmatter." IT DOES!!!😠 For crying out loud🙄 there are staff that went to hotel school and do this. Yeah-I'mm sure your school trained their students -~be sure to get your fingers right in there ~...NOT!!! Why don't you go right over to the guests and just stick your fingers in their mmouths🤨 And don't give mme that argument of I was h mmy hands.< THAT doesn't mmatter and no you do NOT on a busy service running between tables -clearing, and right to picking up fresh glasses/drinks. It grosses mme out 🤮 Guests when they see this -really should pipe up! Very nice and short clip but please be aware of basic hygeine techniques when teaching others. Isabel
