I agree. Competition create a better work standard. And with an area as large as Houston it needs to be divided up. Also the county must force owners to maintain trees on their property so lines are not taken out due to storms.
Exactly! I'm from Michigan and there, are more companies so that people there does have an opportunity to choose which will fit their needs and pocketbooks as well.
Some entities are just "natural monopolies". It's a known economic phenomenon. Power generation & transmission are 2 well known examples. Can you imagine 4 or 5 or 6 different companies owning the poles, wires and substations in a small area??? If you've ever been to a 3rd world country you can see a rats nest of wires nailed (YES, NAILED) to poles in neighborhoods (talking about you Pakistan!)
He never denied anything about pay disputes he danced around it by saying he hasn't "heard" anything about that. Meaning he is just leaving the possibility he can come back later and say well at the time I didn't know. He knows ..what a trash company we are stuck with in centerpoint
How has this man not heard of these (lodging/pay issues?! He's on this interview to speak on it. Often, preintervew questions are shared. And why didn't the newscasters press him on it?! They just let him slip by with that flimsy response?! Not impressed with the 3 of them right now, and I'm usually Ch 2 News fans.
I've heard from friends the first 24 hours there. They had to sleep in their trucks. No work orders for 36 hours after being there. Many trucks just sitting. Hardly anyone getting training. Basically it was poor planning.
@@sharont1exactly, this is how stupid people are they get the news from Facebook, and then you got idiots like this who didn’t develop past 5th grade, like “like oH YeAhG i KnOw a GuY” sure you do buddy
CP is counting those misleading color statuses that "have power," which is probably less than 1m. This guy dares to say, "I'm not trying to brag,..." is absurd.
Texas Public Utility Commission: (Google the number) PUC won't be much help with this outage, except that it puts your complaint into the public record. Be sure to state that your complaint is not that you don't have power, but rather Centerpoint continuously fails to provide the infrastructure and resources needed to communicate with the public. They refuse to build a basic website that can communicate with their customers in the middle of an outage. They don't provide enough call center people to take phone calls, they don't disseminate basic information to employees to pass on to customers. (Not to mention they can't provide reliable service). Your call to PUC won't fix your problem today, but by getting your complaint into the public record, it makes it harder for the politicians to claim "there is no problem, the grid is working great". It's not working great. It's terrible. It's fragile, unreliable, and more expensive to the consumer than it has to be.
The gaslighting NEEDS to STOP Centerpoint ✋️ take accountability! Actions speak louder than lies. PS...no you don't understand our frustration as you look fresh as a daisy on air getting a nice big salary in your nice home likely with a humongous back up genie...this guy is full of himself.
Of my 40 employees only 5 have been restored power they live throughout the greater Houston area. Many have reported their “restoration map” states they are restored but it is not true including myself
Why all the softball questions? This company has underperformed why is the news media letting them off Scott free without asking them the real questions around their under performance
Exactly - she could have asked at least 2 follow up questions when he said they would be communicating more with the remaining 500K - when will you know the next week timeline and what time can I reach out to you (on record) for the next week timeline?
Better to have something than nothing. If Centerpoint gets repeatedly crucified on local news stations they'll just restrict info to highly scripted & choreographed press releases (just like Biden Whitehouse)
@@nic2859 Same here 😅. One thing is for certain, this is costing CenterPoint millions of dollars of lost revenue every day....not that I am upset about THAT though.
This is a major national disaster and CENTERPOINT is lying about the outage numbers. The outage map has inaccuracies. I know because my area isn’t shaded properly as being down. And I’ve seen the news reported from other Houstonians with that issue, This is dangerous because it doesn’t get Houston all of the extra outside help that we need. There are more outages than these people are admitting!
@@williambrucesanders6878yep bellaire still nothing. Edited: they texted me two times the 11th yesterday saying “your power has been restored” but literally no one in the neighborhood has power unless they are generator ready running off grid.

The Problem with Texas power utilities is very simple, Your states government has removed all oversight regulations of Clear Point! They get to operate as they please without having to answer to anyone! It seems like every year Texas is having major power problems after every storm. Whilst neighboring states gets their power grids up and running in 48 hours of a storm, Texas struggles for weeks before they get back up to speed!
You cant tell em nothing they just rinse and repeat they gotta stop being ignorant by themselves we can't get them in line like other states they to prideful on being stupid. They always say they take care of them self so I gusse this what they call taking care of themselves
This is all about greed......we Are people like this guy making millions while people have no a/c and living pay day to pay day......but they don't csre.
The lineman are not to blame , but blame this guy . This is the operation manager he is one of our key issues . His job needs investigating. He refuses to see the problem with their preparedness of this situation so they will not change.
@Goodtimes427 he is not wrong though. Investing in an outside generator is clutch. Especially since we live next to the Gulf which is hurricane central. Just going to get worse. Be prepared abd ready. Don't lay around and wait.
@@justkickinit-o9pyou can get a generator for under $300, a few extension cords maybe a small window unit for summer or space heater for winter, you can power your fridge, a few lights, maybe even your well pump, you gotta get outside the box of modern comfort and do what’s necessary when storms happen. You’re paying for the electricity you use, if it’s out, you’re not paying for it, once you’ve invested in a few basics the gas and effort you put into the generator will be a wash, being prepared is a good idea regardless. It’s frustrating but there are small things you can do to help the situation.
This whole thing is poorly coordinated. The mega sized crew is showing little progress because there's not much direction nor prioritization from the higher ups.
Centerpoint understand the frustration!!!! This is absolutely BS !!! Disappointing and shameful statement !!! After 5 days still no power and fro some reason the area where we live always the latest to restore!!!! Absolutely no clear update and no accurate info!!! Another disappointment !
Don't worry. Tonight you'll get another email bragging about how great they are and how they restored your power yesterday. Their map already displays me as power restored and I can see a power line on the ground from my house. They aren't even good liars.
They say they’ve restored power, but all that means is they marked it on the map as “energized.” We’ve been “energized” for two days now, but still don’t have power. It’s just gaslighting at this point.
Centerpoint hasn’t been doing tree trimming for years in the neighborhoods . Out of 17years they only trimmed trees from lines in my neighborhood twice. Not only did you let the people of Houston down but your own workers. Now they have to work harder because these trees are tangled up with lines. A lot of it could’ve been prevented..
Is this the freedom everyone from Texas talks about? The freedom to be overcharged for basic needs in the name of corporate greed. Got to love your power grid being so bad. Better get ready for more outages. With more heatwaves en route.
Id still rather be in texas than california, or new york, or most other states actually. Yeah, this is a problem for us, but we've toughed it out before, and we're doing it again. We're allowed to complain about things not being done right. If they were doing everything they were supposed to and working hard, we probably wouldn't have said anything. We can handle power outages, other states have bigger issues that we won't ever have. Where are you at? We can compare if you want:)
This is what triggered looks like. Jumping to bash California or New York. You Texans are really going to love your first Dem governor. When the day comes. If Kentucky can Texas can and will. Fellow craphole red state resident here, btw.
Utility only owns and is responsible for the service drop to the meter, or the first pole on the property if the meter is further away. After that, you need what is called an “electrician”.
Centerpoint has 6.9 billion dollars yet they don't want to pay outside working help. Get these people out of here they don't care about people only their money
@@ramiroperez2461Don't really see how that's an option. But i'm pretty sure she'd do a better job than most of those idiots were just sitting in their trucks all day while there's work to be done
Honestly how the hell do other states and countries bounce back after 1 or 2 days with Only dealing with debri and collateral damage While facing category 3 and sometimes even 4 storms. But for us we get knocked out just from strong winds and a category 1 hurricane
This guy should be a politician. These clowns at CenterPoint suck who could care less. We have zero choice on the rates they charge, and they only care about their bottom line. All these clowns are sitting in their homes, with generators and could care less about the average person sitting at home, sweating it out. None of these guys should be allowed to have generators, and see how they deal with it.
"CenterPoint: No pay disputes are keeping working from restoring power" Yeah, I wasn't sure exactly what these "professional" in the "news" were trying to say. They seem to lie enough for me to not expect much, anyway.
CP is a 19 Billion dollar a year for profit company with a monopoly on the transmission and infrastructure of electricity in Houston granted them years ago. This needs to end now. This was a cat 1. A cat 1. This means if there is a emergency plan and maintenance plan it is not being followed.
That man is the biggest liar i have ever seen. And i have not received one email or text in regards to updates since Wednesday. But he will lose his job after all of this is over. And channel 2 🤢 pacifying the situation. Khou 11 is eating centerpoint alive everytime they interview them.
The governor is fine.. mostly. Sometimes. Lol. But It's really the power company. We're on our own grid .. that was poorly made and poorly maintained apparently.
Some areas may take months ! My cousin is a lineman and said some areas are expected to not have power until November. They don’t want to let the public know because people will panic.
I need power for my medical equipment. No power since Monday. Beyond ridiculous. Will Centerpoint pay my medical bills because this heat and no power for my equipment. My medicince must be kept cold.😢
Why did he not call for an investigation into Oncor when DFW was hit by that storm a few months ago? We were out of power for six days and many longer! It’s not just Centerpoint it’s all of these big monopolies. I lose power all the time for days. We need a full investigation into the whole shebang.
you live in the south along the gulf coast in July. what did you expect 50 degree temperatures ? what their customers and local politicians should be asking is, how can your infrastructure be so weak that it can not withstand a Cat 1 storm?
We in BAYTOWN a few years ago had to pay for our smart meters. Now years ago, there was a dispute between electric lines and phone lines carrying the internet connections. I guess phone companies won that. But the electricity provider uses their lines to talk to your smart meter. They can turn on your power, turn off your power remotely. A person doesn't need to come to your home to activate your service. And by the same smart meter, the power companies know if you have or don't have electricity. By the way, internet through electric lines, i think is much better than the phone lines. And some states the smart meters were free as a part of service. Republicans up in Austin did that to TEXAS.
Record profits, no accountability, and complete incompetence. All of their executives should be fired immediately and with no severance packages. Definitely no bonuses this year.
@@michaelcook6855 If customers are dying because of the heat then there will be class action lawsuits and criminal charges against employees of Centerpoint.
Pretty Sure its The WORKFORCE shortage, NOBODY wants to Be Hanging Off Poles In the TEXAS heat 🥵 SOBER. Allow STONERS that are Responsible Workers to Add To the Work force Of these Types...
Channel 2...the focus needs to be on timelines and restoration. Not stories about rouge stories of angry people . Ask tough questions like what are you going for the next storm. Why hasn't hardening happened? Why was the map broke since May? People depending on Whataburger app. Software, talent, and money could have a robust app that was accurate. Looks like a 3rd grader is working on the map. A modern map with accurate info is NOT hard. It is 2024.
All they need to is add sensors to their infrastructure so they know EXACTLY where the outages are, instead of cutting EVERYONE'S power off until they manually figure it out. Too much new tech that would make identifying the outage source without huge impacts to customers.
Yes new tech like underground transmission lines as well. Then the trees will have a harder time knocking out power when they fall due to no maintenance.
You can’t sit in a office with AC, or sit in a truck with AC and say “ we completely understand “ Come try and stay at my house with no lights, no gas , no food, mosquitos , and high summer temperatures all these days, then you can say you understand
Idk man everytime i got an out of town job i had a choice weather or not to take it..the jobs always made me pay for my room and meals but i got my predem..
This is the responsibility of GREGG ABBOTT AND MR PATRICK!!! THIER POWER IS GOOD, THIER PENSIONS AND VACATIONS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN AMERICANS LIVES!
Next time I'm living next door to either a hospital or a big shot politician. Hospitals are critical infrastructure and their circuits get spun up FAST. As for politicians.....well, you know, right??? County Judge Lena Hidalgo and Mayor Whitmire have power to i bet
You mean the company with total control and a history of refusal of proactive maintenance instead only does retroactive corrections won't pay!? Oh I am so "shocked"
Blah Blah Please stop the nonsense people are suffering those power points notes and generic empathy we don't need now all we want is our power back Please ...Centerpointless ..incompetence just pathetic
