Thanks for posting. I came across this clip by accident but I used to watch MSS on UTV during my teenage years and hearing again what must be one of the best theme tunes ever, has really cheered me up. I always had a lot of time for Brian Moore. He was 52 then, I am 57 now, albeit fully thatched....

Brian Moore was a lovely man I had the opportunity to meet several times as a teenager on my way to becoming a commentator in the United States. Along with Barry Davies, I think our best two ever football commentators with honorable mentions to David Coleman (supreme Grandstand host) and Hugh Johns.

I was 6 years old when this was shown and we were just about to move to London from up north. I remember stuff from when I was 5 years old onwards. Anyone else remember stuff from a young age??

Epic theme. I remember BBC equivalent was Sports Night. Bobby Davro parodied it as Midweek Sports Night. Steve Rider still presenting to this day this was a year before he defected to BBC for next 20 years then back to ITV

Thankfully Charlton found the money and didn’t go out of existence. It goes to show that clubs have been in trouble for years and years. It’s not just a recent phenomenon.

Did Thames produce Mdweek Sports Special in the same way LWT produced World of Sport?

That’s correct, and they carried on producing it until mid 1991 when it became Thames Sport Special, as a result of some of the regions splitting and producing their own programmes the year before.
