One of the most unique walks of mine - through central cemetery of Almaty. Look at this walk at this angle: many left Kazakhstan. It is their chance to see, probably, how their ancestors tombstones look nowadays and to honor their families and passed members of the family. The cemetery was organized in the late 1920s - early 1930s on lands that previously belonged to the Iversko-Serafimovsky Convent. At the same time, researchers found evidence of the cemetery's foundation in 1932.
Since the 1950s, the cemetery has become one of the central necropolises of the Kazakh SSR with the burial place of the most famous people in the republic - representatives of the party and state leadership, cultural and artistic figures, military personnel and many others.
The memorial "Eternal Glory to the Heroes Who Died in Battles for the Motherland" is located on the central alley of the Central Cemetery on Raimbek Avenue. In 1976, it has been erected on the site of a mass grave where 560 soldiers who died from wounds in Almaty hospitals were buried. The memorial's composition includes a nine-meter-high spire, a pedestal on which the names of soldiers are engraved, and a figure of a soldier in a cape, with the Order of Glory on his chest.
The tombstone of the People's Artist of the USSR Kulyash Baiseitova has been erected in 1960. The sculptor was A. P. Antropov. In the center of the structure, covered with granite slabs, there is a stele with a complex relief, against the background of which a white figure of the singer is carved. The name, surname and dates of life are carved on the slab. It was included in the state list of history and culture of local significance by the decision of the Alma-Ata City Executive Committee No. 2/35 of January 26, 1984.
Tombstone of composer Akhmet Zhubanov has been erected in 1980. Sculptor E. Vuchetich (development of the sculpture composition), architect V. A. Demin (development of the tombstone).
Tombstone of Academician Kanysh Satpayev has been erected in 1968. Sculptor - A. P. Antropov, architect - N. A. Prostakov. The waist-length sculpture of K. Satpayev is carved from a black granite block: the base is made of red granite. The name, surname and dates of life are cast in metal on the slab. It was included in the state list of history and culture of local significance by the decision of the Alma-Ata City Executive Committee No. 2/35 of January 26, 1984.
Tombstone of the writer Mukhtar Auezov has been erected in 1964. Sculptor - E. V. Vuchetich. At the top of the high gray granite pedestal is a bas-relief of the writer. On the tombstone is a text (with the name, surname and dates of life) and a dedication: "He who left the world an immortal word lives forever." Next to the grave is a granite bench, crowned with a decorated vase. It was included in the state list of history and culture of local significance by the decision of the Alma-Ata City Executive Committee No. 2/35 of January 26, 1984.
Tombstone of composer Mukan Tulebaev has been erected in 1962. Sculptor: A. P. Antropov.
