What a terrific way to start my day! Drinking a good cup of Community Coffee and listening to Scott sharing his knowledge of gardening.!! Thanks Scott!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Coffee and gardening go together like peas and cornbread 😉

Couldn't agree more about herbs. They are my go to suggestion for new gardeners. Mostly easy to grow, hugely satisfying to have, saves money (maybe more than any other crop), and overall leaves you feeling very empowered.

"If you lose - you learn" You made me feel so much better. Had to harvest my parsnips during their peak of growth but needed the room for the next crop. Next year I will time a little better.

I'm so glad you heard that part, it's been so essential for me in my experience. Parsnips?? Heck yeah!

I got a variety of melon cucumber from Jay last year, and it was a winner. If you miss one and it grows big, the plant doesn't die. The skin gets tough, but if you peel it it still tastes good. Plus they were much crisper and sturdier than regular cukes so great with hummus and other dips, and taste and smell was as good as I've ever had. This year I'm having trouble getting the seeds to germinate but I think it's been my fault. Last year ALL of them germinated.

Nice! I hope that more and more gardeners will give them a shot. They’re so fascinating!

I planted sweet peas for the first time (but too late) so they won’t bloom in the heat. Right on with the bittersweet feeling since they’re looking good!

Yes! Sweet peas have been one of the trickier crops for me to grow in central Texas. This year I started them in seed trays in January and planted them about 5 weeks later.

@@newgardenroad I think I sowed seeds in late January or early February, but I plan to sow the sweet peas in fall this year and overwinter them into spring.

What is the south Austin place you mentioned, where you got some plants? I couldn't find anything searching with the name I thought I heard.
