They are of such a unique design they absolutely should be preserved! It's crazy that we are losing such amazing buildings. Great that you guys are showing these to us or most of us would never see them or even know they exist.

You know, watching these video's, one would hope that someone in the government would realize that this is our history and should be better preserved. Looks like a great location for a battery museum.

Great video, what a shame that the site is not restored and then open to the public, its all in great nick and could be used as part of history. I suppose it will just be left to fall down and then the place will be lost to history. Well done chaps.

I wanted to open it as a child. A fence separates it from where the landowners work but they won't sell it:

Great video! I love this place (even though it's small.). By the way, the area that had lots of blue paint next to the generator room is apperantly a "shifting lobby".

Bovril very popular here in Canada. Red sticker is the beef Bovril and the yellow is the chickens. It's look like supposed to have a kind of bridge between the towers on the second floor like the sea fort.😌 (sorry for my English 😌)

The flaky white paint looked like whitewash to me which is lime based which may also explain all the chalk But the best bit for me was all the small hooks near the roof in several rooms Inc the generator room as they were for hanging hammocks Even in the 18th century the towers would have been manned by the Royal Navy with each rating allowed 18ins to kip in just like aboard ship. Fascinating to see.

That.. Barrier.. that you found in the entrance is where the magazine work force would change from their regular uniforms and big hob nail boots into the special magazine clothes before entering. The magazine clothes had no buttons, it had tie fastenings and NO pockets so that nothing could be taken into the magazine that could cause a spark. The regular boots would be changed for soft (rope) soled shoes. It was an extremely serious offence to go past that barrier without changing clothes. There would have been a centre section in that barrier which you stepped over, a sort of physical reminder to stop and change clothes.. :)

Just a thought but the generator room may of actually housed a merlin engine the same as a spitfire just modified slightly for generation purposes of course. There is still a working one of these WW2 under the old control tower at Gatwick. I've been lucky enough to see it running. It's stood on the wooden blocks that are identical to what's here in your video. 🤔😎

Just thought that you might be interested, and possibly horrified to know that The Grain Tower is on the market as a desirable residence. It has even been given a postal address, which is likely to get it sold: No. 1, Thames. I wasn't very happy when I saw this, either.

Grandfather & Father worked in Sheerness Dockyard at the start of WW2 father was in the Home guard in Sheerness to 1941 aged 19 was called up to the RAF. He often talked about his time in those days, patrolling along the seafront. In the estuary I dont know if it is still there,(was in 1990) a sunken Canadian Merchant ship carrying high explosives and ammunition you could see the masts and funnel above sea level, was buoyed off for safety reasons.

something I want you to bring next tower explore .. that is a grappling hook and rope.. Then you can get to any height safely.. just make sure its hooked on properly.. Chris can climb them no worries... would love to see the top of these towers or others you go to... Maybe even do a quick safety lesson with someone who knows how to use a grappling hook the right way... Keep up the hard work :) love yas:)

Have you ever tried to find the ww2 sites on the south east coastline where a defensive weapon would have been used if the krouts invaded in their boats. I see it on TV a few years back and the concept looked deadly. Basically there were stations a mile apart round the coast where if Hans and Co decided to gate crash in their boats the crafty islanders would set the sea on fire causing Frits to burn and his boats to either head back to the mainland or burn and sink. There must have been huge tanks to store the flammable liquid, buildings for the pumps and buildings for the men operating the defensive system. Interesting as it was never used.

Question mate, Im from the US and am tempted to visit the England to see these sites, I'm offly skinny and willing to climb places you don't want too but as you stated others are determined. I could get into the tight windows of that most cant fit threw. I'd be willing to record for you if your willing to let a American explore with you! Tho thats prospect future and I'm just curious as to if you ever would.

There are always Swastika's on abandoned buildings, but somehow people always get 'em the wrong way around.
@brianartillery
@brianartillery 7 лет назад
A reversed Swastika is sometimes called a 'Fylfot', and, as with the Swastika, before the Nazis made it a symbol of oppression and revulsion, was an ancient [5000 years+] good fortune symbol, originating in Asia, although, interestingly, appearing in Native American art, too.
