Last night I ran into the same problems with my M70B. I am disappointed in the engineering of Midwest Ind. Hugo handguard. I was pissed off all the next day until I saw your video, now I know I'm not alone. Still pissed off at Midwest Ind.
I saw both your videos regarding the topcovers. I am not worried about cowitness and I am more inclined towards the standard topcover with the pict rail with an optic on it. My question, is the cheek weld horrendous with an optic attached to the standard top cover like you have in this video? I have an M4 adapter, somewhat similiar to yours, on my Yugo right now and I have to bury deep to get a good sight picture on the irons now.
If anyone wants to do this (minus the side folding) while not spending an arm and a leg, Tapco makes a whole stock system that achieves the same end product. It comes with a basic M4 style stock but you can install any stock you want on it. The ACE product looks more robust, but it costs a an obscene amount. You're looking at around $150 before the actual stock, the Tapco one is less than $50 and comes with a stock (albeit one that pretty much everyone will replace).
Hey bud. I got the same rifle. Have you tried the tapco buttstock set up. It runs about $50 but gives you the same set up but for less and you can put any AR buttstock on it and it’s rock solid. Wish I could show you my rifle so you could see. Only thing is that it doesn’t fold to the side. I run mine for competitions.
I had the same issue with the cleaning rod and i was never going to use it so i used electrical tape to make it stay in and i did that because i just like the way it looked
