Cerakote - Advanced Techniques with Master Gun Smith Scott Cox 

That's my shotgun barrel. He did an absolutely wonderful job. Couldn't ask for better quality. He threaded the barrel for the choke and cerakoted it and it turned out even better than I expected. If you want some work done he does a great great job at a fraction of other prices I was quoted. I highly recommend this guy. I would give a 10 star review if I could.

I do Cerakote at home and it's my favorite finish to use. The durability & looks combined with the ability to coat the inside of slides & receivers, without having to mask anything, make it a superior coating, in my opinion. Awesome video, thanks! 👍

Hey Scott, I've been studying the whole cerakote process as I have 7 rifles, 2 shotguns, 1 carbine and 5 pistols, and it is about time to personalize those babies! The reason they put the cerakote in a bag; is that pressure can build up in the bottles during transport, so the bag is insurance you don't have a mess on your hands when you unbox the coating. In fact, they recommend upon opening the package, to carefully unscrew the lid to relieve any pressure that may have developed, then reseal the cap.

Great info, do you rinse after soaking in the Dawn detergent? This very similar to the prep work I do before I rust blue guns. About to try Cerakote for the first time and this is very helpful... so thank you for a tutorial well done.

Looks good Scotty! My Kimber is flaking off of the aluminum frame pretty bad, but its my daily so its expected and I don't mind the used look. The shotgun barrel is spot on for hunting though.

using a plastic paint cup hopper? i was always told to use metal, is it that big of a deal?

Is that a metal lined spray bottle on your spray gun? I was instructed to never use a plastic container when mixing or spraying.

What model spray gun are you using ?

I am looking into this to do on Aluminum/Magnesium Archery Bow Risers for a company we started. Blue Dragon Archery. The Risers from China Have decent Paint on them, but #1. 3 color option. #2. Not powder coat or anything as durable as this. I also have painted cars, and Aircraft but the Polyurethane and such is hella expensive. I am/was looking into anodizing also, but I think this is more durable.

Are the kimber slides stainless?

I have a Ruger Precision Rifle I would like for you to replace my barrel and cerakote for me. Where are you located?

How do you go about spraying the areas that are strung up? For example, you take a wire and hook one piece to the wire and spray it. Well now you covered 98% of the material except where that wire was holding it at. Is the cerakote going to smear when you move that wire out the way to spray where it was? Does that make sense?

Looks like someone either powder coated or DuraCoated the Kimber. CeraCoat told me to reblast to make sure the surface is right even if previously blasted.

I really like this guy, but I have some serious concerns for the way he does Cerakote. 1. I would bet $100 that he did not paint that shotgun at one mil thickness. He goes over spots multiple times and he doesn’t even adjust fluid or pattern settings when switching between the main and the hard to reach areas. Also, judging by the cap, that might be a harbor freight paint gun. NIC industries recommends the Iwata LPH 80 and in my experience it goes on WAY thinner than anything else I’ve seen. Applying Cerakote at more than one mill thickness makes it risk chipping when impacted instead of just wearing. You aren’t supposed to be hitting spots over and over like he is doing and you are supposed to hold the gun at 45° angles on the strokes or you risk uneven coverage. Also, is that a dust mask?

I can to say that's far from advanced techniques. This is straight forward cerakote.

Some people call it ceramic coating. I call it cerakote... mhmmmm.

I'm cringing every time you put your hand in front of the barrel. Basic firearm safety, you ALWAYS treat the gun like it is loaded. I've seen a lot of 911 calls for people who have shot themselves, after thinking they were safe.
