It's an 80% lower, so it comes raw. The upper and hand guard were the same way. All you need to do at that point is etch the surface. Thank you!

180, until tacky. Every oven is different, but for ours, around 6 minutes. You want it between wet and dry, right in the sticky zone.

Awesome as usual!!! Quick question if I may. Do you guys go by the NIC standard of one year shelf life? What happens if you use stuff that's out dated? Do different coatings differ the shelf life=H vs C vs Micro slick? Thanks
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 6 лет назад
We store our stuff in a mini-fridge, which keeps the temp constant within about 10 degrees all year round. If the coating freezes, toss it. What generally happens, and why they have the recommendation, is that the solvent evaporates from the bottle over time, and it's too thick to spray. It will end up with a rough look. I have a bottle or two pushing the two year mark that are still good. They are oddball colors that will likely be tossed eventually. We use so much coating that we don't run into shelf life very often. We tend to stock colors that we know we are going to uses vs just a wide selection. We generally have about 40 colors in the shop. Unless the customer wants something different, I have certain colors I use in almost every camo pattern. We also always have the flag colors.Most of our bottles are either pint or quart.DO NOT refrigerate your hardener. The H and C have around the same life. Micro and clear last longer than I've ever needed them to. I've never had any go bad. Thanks for watching!
@bigal31679
@bigal31679 6 лет назад
I ask because I have a bottle right at a year old and had an imperfection-looked like I sprayed 1 spec of aluminum oxide onto the surface. Wasn't sure if that was the paint or me.Any thoughts? My shop temp varies from 65-85 Also, do your stencils have a shelf life? If so why? Thanks again!
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 6 лет назад
Hard to say. If you're worried about it, pitch it. The material is good pretty much indefinitely as long as it's stored in a cool dry place. If it gets a lot of humidity for an extended period, it will start to shrink a little.
@bigal31679
@bigal31679 6 лет назад
So far no shrinkage! Lol-I've been using your stencils successfully for 2 years now. Can you tell if the Cerakote is going bad by looking at it? Or some other way?
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 6 лет назад
If it looks thick, loogieish. If there's not really any solvent left on top before you shake it.

Do you do much 2-tone handguard cerakoting with a brighter color (orange, red, green, etc.) on the inside only and a normal armor black, etc on the outside? Getting the inside adequately coated is a challenge. Any tips or tricks?

I have a local certified cerakote applier in my area but chose to go with you because of your videos. I really appreciate being able to see your process. Now, I dont mean this as criticism, as I said I appreciate your attention to detail: In the video, you said that the lower had already been stripped and soaked. In cerakotes instructional videos, they say not to touch the part with bare hands after that process due to skin oils. Is this not too big of a deal or did you clean the part again after handling?
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 6 лет назад
Hi Kevin. The glove thing is sort of one of those topics that gained traction on the web, and has become something close to holy writ. Here's my opinion...NIC had to lay down some guidelines, and one of them was an overkill on gloves. I get the reason ("Hey! I just changed the oil in my car, and then did my project, and this stuff didn't stick!" lol). When I started, I followed the guidelines exactly, to the point of going way overboard. But after doing this for several years, and thousands of projects, it's just not an issue as long as you have clean hands. I wash my hands several times a day, and use acetone a lot on projects. I've never had an adhesion problem. If you've ever worn gloves while applying stencils or tape, you know it's a nightmare. The one thing I tell everyone is, if you are in the middle of a project, and see something on the surface, wipe it down with some acetone. As a side note, when you go out to NIC, they only wear gloves in the booth. Thank you for the question.

How do you tell if something is anodized
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 2 года назад
The easiest way that we have found is to set you sandblaster up for polymer, around 30 psi. Start sanding, moving the nozzle back and forth pretty quickly, and watch the surface. If it's painted, it will go to metal pretty quickly. At that point, turn the pressure up and go to town. If it's ano, it will just start to get grey.That's what you want.Do that uniformly on the entire surface, blow it off, and coat. If you leave it in one spot too longand it goes to bare metal, you'll probably have to sand the entire project. If you don't, there will be a noticable low spot once it's coated.

not sure how it would work with cerakote. but when i paint and want that type of look. i thin out the black a LOT, brush it in, or spray, and let it flow into the low areas. then if necessary, wipe the highs. but wiping the highs is pretty rare. it gives it a dirty worn look, and much less time
@BransonCerakote
@BransonCerakote 3 года назад
You can't thin Cerakote or you'll lose the abrasion/corrosion resistance, but still good info.
