To describe a RU-vidr as a "glorified adult lullaby composer" is just too perfect

He does sing and compose music. He's not describing RU-vidrs as "glorified adult lullaby composers", he's both a RU-vidr _and_ a composer. His musical style does indeed sound like lullabies that adults would enjoy.

@@Accrovideogamesno, I think he was calling these videos lullaby's for adults. 😅 I know I use them to get to sleep. Besides, he seems proud of his music and describes it pretty clearly as a hobby. "Glorified" in that context implys he gives it more prestige and less respect than that.

@LilacMonarch

I mean, it says you "paid [amount] to the winner" before you black out, so it seems more like some kind of enforced rule in regard to Pokémon battles that you must pay the winner if possible. Who enforces these battle rules and how the amount is determined are unclear. Also, other trainers (many of whom are actually not kids) do not appear to black out, this seems to be unique to the player character. Perhaps he/she simply does not handle losing/party wipes well.

I feel like Mr. Hyper's got an interesting dynamic within the Cerulean City community. In my eyes, he works in the daycare facility alongside his wife, but also provides an educational service on the side that people under the age of 18 can benefit from using an easily accessible form of alternative currency, simultaneously promoting participation and even stimulation within the economy, encouraging the removal of recyclable litter, and furthering his own hobbies/interests. Who knows, maybe he's in business with some local beverage manufacturer, receiving a nice little commission for beverages sold within Cerulean City limits; a living advertisement, if you will. Either way, sounds like he's turning some sort of profit.

@SilverDragonJay
@SilverDragonJay 10 месяцев назад
This is the second place it comes up in my life, as an "enumeration" is also a variable type used in computer science to correlate numbers to readable words. IE: enum v = {red, green, blue}; In that case, those words can be used as if they were numbers, where red = 0, green = 1, and so on. The most common usage for this is just to make things easier to read, because 'blue' can tell you a lot more about what's going on then just '2' even if these things mean the same thing to the computer. And yes, this does mean that you can do things like "red + 1" and it will produce 'green' just some fun knowledge in case anyone cares.

Given the fact that in Gen2 Lance (who is at the time the champion of the Indigo League) is directly and seemingly officially involved in a very serious criminal investigation into an international crime syndicate (Team Rocket), I think it's safe to say that in the Kanto/Johto region(s) at least the local Pokemon League (includimg both the gyms and the championship) are either A) a government entity, possibly even a Bureau themselves; B) a major moneymaking corporation in a surprisingly benevolent anarcho-capitalist dogpile; or C) the actual government body itself of Kanto/Johto, meaning all policy makers are determined by who is best at training magical animals to participate in bloodsports. Definitely worth further investigation.
@DavidJCobb
@DavidJCobb 9 месяцев назад
very interesting point anarchism of some form is well supported by the lack of police response seen when team rocket openly engages in criminal conspiracies involving large gatherings of members and coercion of civilians, as seen at goldenrod city's radio tower in particular. security guards are known to operate near goldenrod city, outside of city limits, but they may be a local volunteer force akin to a neighborhood watch or militia the takeover of the goldenrod city radio tower in particular would've been especially noticeable across the region. that lance, a Kanto native, did not intervene suggests that even the league itself may operate this way: B and C may be the same possibility

just don't think about what he says too much. Any normal person will find a lot of things wrong with what he says....employment means someone else is paying you, so no one pays the gym leaders. The Gym leaders own the gym themselves. And again, no one pays them. No one pays to get in or to challenge them. Only one who makes money is the markets. And we can't even prove they make money. How much is a pokeball whole sale and how can I get that? I have max money I should be able to buy bulk from some one else. So they must make their own pokeball, or be part of the company that does. And that leaves Team Rocket and farmers markets who make money. But then he also says player characters mom in pokemon red/blue/yellow is unemployed, but if you look that up, she owns and runs Pallet towns ONLY restaurant so shes employed...so WHAT ELSE IS HE WRONG ABOUT.... really doesn't take that much effort, so what hes doing is using his own opinion which isn't based in fact or reality...his videos are fun but wrong.

Cerulean City is so far the most economically diverse and culturally rich city yet still has amongst the highest unemployment rate so far and is affecting a particular group of individuals more than other citizens. As well, much of the city's industry is heavily based on encouraging tourism between Misty's gym having an audience unlike Brock's, Bill's collection being a world renowned exhibit, and the bike maniac encouraging longer distance travel given Kanto's overall lack of public transportation. These are all indicators of gentrification likely brought on by the establishment of either Misty's gym and/or Bill's lab which brought in new business such as the daycare but created a decline in employment among the former locals.

According to canon novelizations, people as young as 10 are considered adults in the Pokemon world, or at least in Kanto. It's never brought up in the games or anime, though. If you view this through a modern American lens it makes sense not to count them, even when some states have lightened their views on child labor as of late. I would say any call is up to the enumerator and their higher-ups. As for the yellow bridge north of Cerulean City, that's called Nugget Bridge and it's infamous for being a recruitment place for Team Rocket. The five trainers on the bridge are all Rocket operatives battling passers-by. They gauge how you handle yourself in battle there and may offer you a position with the criminal enterprise. Not sure how you would count known criminals in your survey. (Guess we will find out in Celadon.)

Which is to say, the bike here would likely be worth ¥1,000,000; or roughly $10,000 given conversion factors in the game's year of release. All Pokémon gyms are said to be in affiliation with the region-wide Pokémon League, and seeing as intercity problems are often shuffled to the Pokémon League champion to solve, and local instances of public welfare are the responsibility of local gym leaders to manage, it’s my professional opinion that the Pokémon League IS the regional government. Ergo, gyms are most likely subsidized entirely with taxes. Perhaps property tax, which suggests why only towns above a certain geographical area size have a Pokémon gym in operation.

The renovation was funded by Giovanni to function as a testing ground for mass-produced Silph Scopes, but once Rocket was disbanded, local radio technicians probably took over the half-finished Rocket base when it was determined that demolishing it could have horrible consequences due to the resident spirits.

i would see the gyms are educational institutions rather than employment opportunities unless you have situations like the cerulean gym where they will perform shows for the people in the stands. i always saw the trainers in the gyms to be disciples and students of the leaders that are put there to test their strengths and learn from the gym leader (especially since they all have that type of pokémon). i also don’t think brock is an adult but an older teen just like misty, i would say he is 16-17 and misty is 14-15.

Feels like the "Bike Maniac" is going out of his way to appear unemployed (claiming it's his "home" and his "collection" when it's obviously a commercial business). My guess is either he's falsely claiming benefits or some kind of tax evasion but this skilled bureau worker just took one look and said "employed".

I think the gym trainers are patrons of the gym not employees of it. They come to battle and train under the gym leader. There are a few gyms set up differently that implies otherwise, but generally, the people swimming laps at a YMCA aren’t working there, even if they challenge you to a race

My head canon is that the pokemon world was much harder to survive in due to the all the magic animals, so people depended on the strongest monster trainers to protect and lead them, which has lead to gym leaders being the mayors to this day, despite no longer needing that structure

Always a great video, keep them coming! Kinda wondering where you would fall on LT Surge, the "Lightning American" who is a gym leader, but also with the military stationed there from, well, America. The trainers on the bridge are working for Team Rocket, even the kids. Not sure if they live there, because once you beat them they leave. I always counted the Day Care Couple and Bill the Pokemaniac as living within Cerulean's borders.

I would count the guard as part of Saffron City, since he along with his three other crewmates guard each cardinal direction to and from Saffron City until you give them a drink. Not very good behavior from an employed persons but he still is the guard to Saffron city. Also, if you somehow glitch your way inside of Saffron City before giving the guards their drink, you can leave the city, but not go back in- showing that he guards Saffron, and not Cerulean.

“Anarcho-Capitalist Dictatorship” is not something I would ever expect to hear in a labor survey 😂. In all honesty though there never seems to be any sort of governance in Pokémon, with the closest thing being the local gym leaders. It could very well be that the Kanto region is governed by the Pokémon League itself, since Pokémon battling seems to be the main focus of the region. Every gym leader is like their own warlord who gains power by being the strongest, most influential Pokémon battler in the region, only adhering to the rules of the league, tied together in a sort of bizarre confederation. It’s hard to guess what role the elite 4 play, whether or not they dictate policy or that being left up to some other league entity. What is clear is that this line of thinking completely reframes the way Pokémon is looked at. It’s not just a sport, but the pathway to power in the Pokémon world, and the player is working his way up the hierarchy, which is an underly hilarious take for a children’s game.
