Mine have no quality control issues and sound awesome at max volume. I keep hooking them up to more powerful / cleaner amps and they just keep taking it and sounding better when I didn't think it was possible.
Disagree, my AT-15’s have excellent fit and finish, although I have the walnut variety , maybe you just got a lemon. Owned these for 25+ years and still sound great. New at Circuit City in S. Cal $700, wouldn’t sell for $1500! I did indeed have to refoam the woofers. Mine are like new!
It's very possible that mine may have been duds. This though seemed to be the standard fare with many manufacturers in the 90's, things were slipping in the audio world. Can you post a picture of yours?
@@mr.blackhawk142 speakers that are made for foam I don’t think can be converted to rubber. Also the new foam is much better and should last a lot longer.
I had AT12s back in the day, great speakers. I own a pair of VS100s that I rebuilt, pretty nice. I also own "new" SL15s. Pretty decent for the price, similar build quality, but the "MDF" is a better quality on the new ones. Which surprises me because the Gibson ones are made in China. Somewhere between the old chip board and actual MDF. Same cheap crossover, but a steel woofer is the only real knock comparing to the cast drivers on the better older models. XLS series has cast drivers but look like Pro DJ speakers. Thats why I got the SLs. I have found Cerwin-Vega! over the years to be really good in design but they defiantly cheapen out on boxes and crossovers. If you like Rock, Metal, Funk, Blues, Electronic then CV! is worth looking into. If you can find a set in good shape snatch them up if you don't like them they will sell fast. Gibson sold the company and us CV! fans are hoping for some new models thet can go toe to toe or beat the old ones. I won't hold my breath.
I still have my D9'sand are fine. And when I was younger,I beat them to death constantly!,,those new ones did not keep up,lower quality parts woofers and cross overs failed constantly.were discontinued
I have had my At15s since 1994..and then u purchased a pair of the dx-9 s in 1997. and have smoked threw several amplifies. Then In the late 90s I purchases two Carver a500x..from circuit city. and they was a perfect match. Lotts of power and they took the vegas 4ohm load and gobbled it up. And just spit out more power. Haha. Those paired up to the carvers would Rock like no other!!. I mean they would Rock.. Just have to make sure you have the amps plugged into a outlet that would supply enough power. I would recomend a 20 amp line. Even tho they have a 15 amp Power cord. Power Makes Power.
My pink membranes flaked off my 4 AT-15s original surrounds,,I cleaned them up and completely off with a soft brush.the foam under is wonderful and I'm not re ringing them, just because the pinks gone,,they are igunal surrounds and I have four new ones to install ,but the base foam is just great yet and the main foam anyway is for rebound performance,,pink skin is just a protector and looks
Well, I've never heard mX400; However, they seem to resemble the DX9... I suspect they sound somewhat similar. most CV fans see the D9 as the pinnacle Vega... It may be nostalgia lol! What's your experience with them? Do you prefer one over the other?
I had 2 of these with an adcom amp i had the cops over my house a few times lol i threw a party one time and borrowed my uncles he had the same setup so 4 of them it was literally like being in a club
My AT-15 were the best speakers I have ever owned. If you had different cabinets the speakers would sound different. I got the cops called on me for rockin on these speakers. Beautiful. Your looking for $1200 speakers for $350. And now that you have them your complaining about them? These speakers are so goo for the cheap price. I had no foam problems on mine. These speakers didn't only have rock music on them. I have very good gear going into them. Makes sense. Put some watts through them. They were very balanced. The cops and one psycho neighbor hated them. I had fun😂
I run my CVs AT-15s off a Behringer Europwer EP 4000- specs Watts/Side @ 4 ohms: 950W RMS. and my CV RE30s off a Adcom GFA555II -325 watts per channel into 4 Ω, Both amps are driven by Adcom GTP 500II the Europower off Norm and the Adcom off Lab outputs. Streaming from PC with a Shciit DAC. The sound when playing Dire Straits is amazing much more than words can say. The speakers take everything I throw at them. This is unheard of power for the AT-15s as well as the RE 30s. Once I see the Red Clip light I stay there briefly and back off. I can play these volumes for hours on a Flat setting contour off. Yes the cops been here many times. The EP4000 does throw off some heat and the fan is noisy more than I would like. I have been able to fix the fan noise distraction by turning the volume knob carefully upwards just a little. Trust me it works. My AT-15s give my Klipschorns a good fight for a fraction of the cost.
@@1JGP1 Your statement is by far the most knowledgeable I have ever received. The dry wall and the 2 x 4's behind it rattle so damn bad the noise is unbearable, especially when my subwoofers kick in hard. The glasses in the kitchen cabinets rattle each other. Pictures on the walls need to be nailed and rubber padded on their backsides. Im to a point where I think this was all a waste of my time and money. LOL
The re 38s are. I got 4 woodgrain At 15 running off my crown amps ,,ya I see your running them as well, they way they should be driven instead of old vintage melted down weenie amps
I have a pair since late 1990's. They sound great especially if you listen to rock music mainly. But the build quality really sucks. One year into using them, one of them started rattling terribly. I removed the woofer to see what's going on and found out that one of the triangular corner braces (I don't know if this is the correct term) that secures the front side became loose. I couldn't take it off completely, so I had to apply some glue and then used screws to secure it. I did this to the other one too before it became a problem. Apart from this, I had no other issues since then. I still use them with a Sony TA-F530ES amplifier which is a bit underpowered for the beasts, but more than enough.
Thanks for sharing, yes - I too found the quality was down a bit on the AT15 in comparison to the older gen models (i.e. D9). Great speakers for rock & will last a lifetime!
I have searched far and vide and tried numores tower speakers.since my dad has at 100/at 15 i wanted to find something different for my house.. and can only say fuck that I'm buying cerwin Vega again nothing compares don't let audiophiles tell you anything else it is the only speaker brand worth listening too. So if you're like me and always listen on max volume buy these.
My selection of amplifiers changes. Today, I have a few...One of my solid state power amps is a McIntosh MC2120 for my I love integrated amplifiers because of the simplicity of them (one chassis does it all) - kicking around is a Denon's 100th Anniversary Amp; As well as a McIntosh MA-230. I've rotate a couple tube amps and some vintage receivers. Never a boring day around the lounge, lol.
I had a pair of D9's and they were stolen and I replaced them with the AT 15's. So I've had both and abused the hell out of them. I never noticed the construction issue you mentioned. The covers fit fine on mine. The At 15's are better sounding. the D9 tweeter wasn't as good as the AT 15. Never noticed the bass difference because they both pounded. They are big heavy monsters but the sound was excellent, I paired them with a Yamaha MX1 power amplifier. I have managed to blow the fuses. They are slow blow fuses. If your going to buy one of the 2 and you can find them get the AT 15's
I slammed the neighbors windows in my neighborhood every day back in 1991 with a pair of AT15s and a cheap JVC receiver until Rent-A-Center wanted them back. They ate every watt the JVC could throw including dimming the display when the bass dropped, and ohhh boy did it drop!
Still have my AT-15 and have redone the foam on the woofer. You speak too much about the grill mounting. Mine fit perfect - never had an issue. Maybe you swapped them left to right?
I may have got a dud pair...it's possible. However, the reality is after having 3 pair of D9's, I have to say that they are built better than the AT-15's. As in the video, I do prefer the tweeter on the AT-15's though...Certainly they are not slouches either!
l bought a pair New. l never could afford an AMP that could even, try to Work, them. l sold them to a Church and they ran em on a Peavey PA system. LOL l drove in a Fox Mustang and got 1 at a time. 2 trips to get them home. l think..... 90 or 91. Maybe. lmao
Sold these at the beginning of my career. I worked for a large retailer and we had yearly product training. In short the rep to demonstrate the durability of the woofers he would plug a loose woofer directly into a wall socket…… the loudest 60hz tone I’ve ever heard!!! He would offer prizes to people who asked the infinity, JBL, Bose, etc to do the same!!😂😎

I have heard several models and I just am not a fan. That is ok though. I like AR and Yamaha speakers. Often overlooked Energy speakers. Not the home theatre variety. Energy 3 / trois are great.
it are not the zame, there are big difference in them, one with horn, and a newer with dome tweeter.. and the AT are newe in all comåonentz.. but they are both awzome... i have had both and have D5 now and looking for d9 or at again..or maby 1215
