There's a clear decision path to follow when upgrading a GA aircraft to a glass cockpit, here are the top 5 things I learned when upgrading our Cessna 172.
This is the story of the instrument panel upgrade in our '73 Cessna 172M Skyhawk. We bought "Ginger" in 2020. She was, and still is, a wonderfully cared for mostly original airframe. Her engine had been overhauled once, she was nicely repainted and the instruments and avionics in the panel were vintage but fully functional. I flew her this way for 5 months.
I started my project by knowing why I wanted to update the panel, how I was going to use it, set a budget, selected a brand, found a qualified A&P IA and an experienced shop. This video is about planning and details; do your research and understand the pros and cons of doing major work like this, be able to answer questions about what you want and how you plan to use it.
I hope this inspires you to upgrade your panel, feel confident in your choices and I wish you the very best of luck!
