Windage is adjustable. The front sight pin is off centered so you can move it left or right. It is hard to see but the front sight is off centered. I thought the same thing until I researched it and it worked perfectly.

You can't get a *precise* zero, because of course the threads on the front sight are moving the tip up or down for range at the same time you're swinging it left or right of center [within its limited range of movement], but as they say, "close enough for government work." The real limitation on these rifles is often the ammo anyway [much as was encountered when the M14 was first fielded. The dismal accuracy was traced to the ammunition & an entirely new standard was developed for testing & acceptance thereof...]

Puedo asegurar con toda seguridad que no es un Cetme no tiene bocacha apagallamas no tiene el soporte para la bayoneta ni el bote con el kit de limpieza los modos de tiro estan pintados y no tienen que estar el guardamanos no es de madera el punto de mira es diferente y sobre todo la parte exterior de donde se aloja el cargador es lisa en el cetme y esta es diferente . Y se lo demuestro al que quiera por que pase un año con uno en las manos todos los dias.

En realidad, la única diferencia entre el CETME y el HK G3 es el muelle del gatillo, en el CETME son dos muelles parecidos a los de una pinza de tender (por poner algún ejemplo, no se su nombre técnico), mientras que en la versión alemana se emplea un muelle más tradicional. I really must have lucked out with my CETME. Fit and finish is awesome, none of the rough weld stuff seen here. The trigger is not bad at all for a military rifle, and comparable to the HK91 that was also in the shop the day I bought it. I've put 600-700 rounds through it, and aside from some dead primers on old shitty Santa Barbara 7.62-C, which is not the fault of the gun, I have not had a single malfunction in any way shape or form. It goes bang, cycles, ejects and feeds every time you pull the trigger, be it with 7.62 NATO FMJs of half a dozen or so origins, or commercial soft point .308 hunting stuff. I haven't yet got to really test it for accuracy because my eyes don't agree with those irons too well, but it hits what you point it at.
Marcus Toroian both guns are imported and assembled from parts kits, usually they are a mixture of parts from several guns from many different manufacturers, so it comes down to luck in either case.
Cetme front sight post is offset from center therefore windage and elevation ajustments can be made using front sight adjustment tool available for this rifle. Canting of rear site can be compensated for..
The G3 is a CETME C manufactured in Germany under a Spanish license. In fact, until the 1980s, the initials CETME were stamped on them. The same thing also happened with the FN.
I've got to agree with Marcus Toroian. I've had my Cetme for about 25 years and have NEVER had a jam or FTF, except due to a bad primer. You can't do reloads because the ejector grabs the crap out of the brass and flings it a good 10-15 yrds! lol It's very clean without all of the welds I see in this guy's video. I used the HK claw mount (the one for the G3) for my scope and can consistently hit 3" groupings @ 200 yrds. The rifle shoots very well and smoothly. No complaints. I'll also have to agree with Tony Izaguirre. They can be like AK's. Some like mine are made very well. Some like this guy's bought...not so good. $400 - $600 should have told him. So shop before you buy! That goes with any weapon though. I've seen some pretty crappy AR's out there too!. That said...Nothing shoots like my M1 Garand though ;)
Very nice video, very thorough! I don't know if anyone's already said this but the G3 is more or less a CETME. The german designers that made the CETME for Spain moved back to Germany and made the G3 for HK. There are some small differences but the main difference in these two you have here is that CAI made the CETME. Real CETME's from Spain are very well built.
Seems from the date on this vid & the missing Pic rail that you're comparing the old Century Arms CETME [which has pretty universally bad reviews], not their newer C308 [a collaborative effort w/ PTR making the receivers and an actual effort at something like "quality control," which have pretty generous reviews in comparison to their old offering.]
Is it a cetme? No, it not. You have to buy a cetme c it was a great gun. I was in special force in 1986 and I had a cetme c and your gun is not a cetme.
Dear friend you can adjust the windage on a CETME. The front sighjt pin can be moved left or right, at least in the army ones, using a small tool hided in the TOP TUBE, Maibe commercial one lost this part? Nevertheless there are at least one video in U2B showing this feature. Enjoy it.
I have owned both a PTR and a Cetme and for the money I'll go with the Cetme. I will say you have to put a couple mags of ammo through the Cetme to ensure it is reliable, once you do that they are definitely on par. They are both made from kits, PTR just pays a little more attention to detail than Century does. The only thing different is the rear sight, you can get a complete drum site for $20-25, break 4 welds, smooth them down, put two weld back on and you are done.
How does your PTR front sight have any adjustment? I've got a '79 HK91 and the front sight post is rigid with a roll pin holding it in place, the only windage adjustment is through the rear sight. All in all though great review, I've never seen a CETME close up and I gained some knowledge in your comparison.
I have the newer CENTURY/PTR CETME C308. It has never let me down. I have the surplus wood and bayonet with it. Only failure was a magazine with a weak spring and sticky follower. I rock 2 inch groups at 600 yards with an $80 knock off ACOG lol I have about 2500 rounds through it, a dozen hogs and a couple white tails. It's an amazing rifle. I spent $650 with Bayonet and 2 boxes of ammo. Bought an original bird cage flash hinder muzzle device so the bayonet isn't loose. Never had my safety switch fall out or and issues, the fit and finish is actually pretty nice. But this was the Century kits built by PTR so it has way better QC. I've been offered $1,200 but I'll never sell this rifle. My son will inherit this with several others some day. Not my favorite rifle but it is super reliable and fun to shoot. I love my K31. I've hit a 2 ft target at 1200 yards with it. Trying to find a place to go for 1 mile. Its probably the most accurate rifle ever made, accompanied with GP11 ammo it will out shoot anything with equil Operators I would bet. Anyway, love your videos. Take care.
That PTR is an older JLD ban era. Very desirable. Love the finish on my metal lower, have a newer PTR that has a plastic navy lower, and it looks cheap.
I like the look of the CETME because it reminds me of the Stg-44 (MP-44), but I would definitely not get one because of the apparent lack of reliability. Is there a model of PTR that resembles the CETME shown in the video without being customized?
btw, ptr is not german or built with german tooling. It's american made with portuguese G3 (under license from H&K) toolings acquired from the portuguese government.
The CETME is not a real CETME is made by Century Arms , that which is well known to make low grade firearms, the PTR is made in US too , but is made with the original machinery of a Portuguese factory that made H & K G3 under license of H & K, the Portuguese factory closed and PTR bought much of the equipment used to make the original G3, the PTR is a much better weapon than the CETME made by century arms.
Carlos Vega from Spain said that he was in the spanish military in 1992, and the Cetme was still in service. Its was very reliable and accurate for a well used rifle with 20 years of service. They used to called it CHOPO because of the wooden furniture. Thanks

The windage adjust is at the front site, look at the front site closely, it is off center, giving it a windage and elevation adjustment. Just my thought, neither rifle is accurate past 100 yards. It was a short term use in the Spanish Army for a reason. How many people can handle a full auto 308 ?
Ended up with a CETME from a yard sale. Based on the descriptions over the phone from the wife I thought it was a PTR. No such luck. Mine is different from the one reviewed in the video. Mine has the rotating rear sight for distance adjustments and the safe/fire selector is the same as the PTR in the video. Tonight is tear down and frog lube treatment. It came w/ extra parts and a german 5x scope on the claw mount. Plus I've got a Zeiss Z51 night vision scope that's made for this platform.

No, creo que es el PTR es la versión americana del cetme. Existe una empresa que fabrica un rifle basado en el cetme que se llama PTR si lo miras en internet encontrarás información. Es muy parecido al cetme pero no es que sea ninguna versión posterior ni intermedia ni nada parecido.

I bought my PTR in 2016, and it came with a threaded barrel. I had to swap the flash suppressor for a muzzle break, per CA regulations, and found that the flash suppressor was set on the rifle with Rocksett. I took it my gunsmith in Reno and it took him a 2 ton barrel vise and heat to break the suppressor free, haha. I had to take the rifle to Reno because none in CA would work on it, but the place I went to in Reno was fantastic. Love my PTR, heavy..... but great shooting rifle!

Where is the G3 comparison? Specs, barrel, tolerances etc. Some Cetme's are milsurps understood. The G3 was a copy of the Cetme and the Germans may have refined the end product. I would like to see an actual comparison of barrels, long shot accuracy from a locked bench etc to see if the Cetme, PTR, C308 or G3 or any other variants are better/indifferent. What is the major difference in accuracy? The barrel material, twist, tolerance, metallurgy? Sure there will be variants in production but is one twice as good or twice as expensive for what you will use it for. I've been looking at the century arms c308 for awhile, after doing research on how century arms is more of a cheap knock off, I'm thinking about buying a ptr91, however I do like the cetme wood furniture on the rifle, is it possible I could just buy the wood pieces? Would they fit on the ptr91? I know they're very close rifles and are based off the hkg3
hate to bust your balls but my cetme is a whole lot more refined than your cetme lol..literally yours looks like frankenstien compared to mine,and i played with my safety for a long time after you said falls out,i dont have that issue or the amount of play in trigger or safety as you either,
from what it looks like what he got was a job from Century. If you look at a pre import ban, actual CETME factory rifles, they don't look anything like that. The welds are cleaner and the finish is all around better.
For the most part, Yes. The rail mount on this PTR is a Claw Style.... Can't remember where I purchased it but it fits the Cetme as well. I think I have a video with it on the PTR. However, each Cetme appears to not be made as "smoothly" as each PTR so it is possible that the bulges, where the mount attaches to are either too big or too small. If you order a mount online I would check the return policy just in case. Best of luck to you!
Its impossible to get a optics rail on the cetme too. There are only 1 maybe 2 out there that will stay on. If you don't want any jams with the cetme just bend the lips on the top of the magazine. Its just a feeding issue and problem is resolved.
The new (as of this comment ) CETME rifles from Century are improved, primarily because PTR has a hand in their construction. Sure, they're still rough around the edges, but are reliable and more versatile, thanks to the top rail.
After replacing everything with HK91 parts (due to the legalities in Florida) and putting about 300 rounds through my CETME, I can safely say the reliability is that of the AK-47 in the sense that I do not get jamming and that cleaning is not required as often. Also, mine came with the flash hider; which is pretty nice. It is my first and still my favorite rifle of all :).
My CETME not only came with a muzzle break but also a bayonet lug. And the bayonet also fits my FR8 Mauser - both rifles have the same "front end." I've had no operational issues at all with my CETME, and with a cheap compact NcStar 3-9x42 IR scope on a B Square mount, I get 1 MOA groups at 100 yds. What's not to love?
I didn't mean to bash a Cetme in this video or make the PTR stand on a pedastal. However I think that because Century Arms built my Cetme, it just simply isn't as quality of a weapon. The rear site is an issue, and you are correct if a person can weld its a simple and inexpensive fix. The two guns are not fully part interchangable, they are made differently inside. The Cetme that I have is more prone to have issues over the PTR I have regardless of the ammo types I have used.
I don’t know where do you found that CETME but what you show is not an original CETME. I saw that it has a lack of fine tuning and maintaining because is not normal the trigger moving etc etc. Also front sight in CETME is adjustable, and the muzzle brake shown is not the original. The welding shown is not also original. In any case PTR is a modern rifle vs a old CETME that was thought for combat and it’s needed to be solid and with no so much soft parts.to me Is like compare apples with oranges. I have the new c308 from CAI. World of difference! I had a cetme as we and it did fine but the c308 blows both the ptr and the cetme out of the water! CAI has finally gotten their ship in one stock! You can see it in action on the American defender channel.
If it's built by anyone other than Santa Barbara, it's not a CETME. Unless it's one built with the parts General Dynamics obtained when they bought Santa Barbara, of course.
I bought a CETME during the 2013/14 panic and it looks a little rough put it shoots well so far @ 25 yards. I don't like the muzzle brake that much and bought an original brake. I'm just not sure if putting on the original brake takes the rifle out of 922r compliance. I like that it takes the HK91 magazines which are now from $4 dollars to $6 dollars each. I bought some at the same time as I bought the rifle for a little under $4 dollars each. The CETME takes some practice to learn to reload fast. The AR and AK are much faster but in a hypothetical fight, will the AR and AK user still be there after 7.62x39 rounds have been employed?
Congrats! I bought a hk91 recently so I joined not too long ago too! Yes, if it was a US made part, I'm pretty sure it was for compliance. No one in the history of the game has been charged with violating 922r but I wouldn't wanna be the first. :P

The Spanish Cetme ceased to be made in 1974, while in 1977 H&K acquired permission to manufacture it and continued to sell it to other countries. You compare a pistol made in the 60s to one made 20 years later, but the 70s version of the G3 and the Cetme C, minus the handguard and the rifle butt, are the same. The wing that you say you don't like is called "alza de librillo" and they are the same in both arms, up to 80. First the Cetme C was created in Spain and later the H&K 6g
CETME The CETME's front sight IS adjustable for windage. The post is off center and you turn it to adjust for elevation and windage. The muzzle brake is not welded on the CETME it is blind pinned on and can be removed. I've never had a safty lever come out accidently on a CETME. They are keyed to the trigger frame. If yours dose that it is screwed up in some way. If you prefer the G3 trigger you can just buy a complete G3 grip frame (modded to semi of course)and install it in your CETME
Ptr make the trigger packs for the C308 and it has a threaded muzzle brake that will take an AR-10 if you want. Mine looks better than you describe just saying. I'd pay the $480 for the c308 anytime
It's called a "UTG New Generation Low Profile Scope Rail for HK Firearms," it was super cheap and doesn't seem particularly sturdy but not horrible either.
Cetme = workin' man's HK 91 . I took my Century straight from the dealer's to my gunsmith for a trigger job , some smoothing up of the internals , rear sight replaced w/ surplus G3 drum , and fitted for G3 retractable stock . I also opened up the slots in the handguard so she could cool properly . End result is she runs " like butta " , shoots dead on @ 100 & 200 , and eats everything I've fed her . Bought 25 mags from CTD for $0.97 per and could not be happier .*NOTE* - she loves teflon spray!
Improper comparison. By the logic of the reviewer you could be exercising comparison between two C308s or PTR91s with how many variations there are of this pattern of firearm. Over all, the HK91 pattern of rifles are as reliable as they are various. Nothing fancy. Just 1-20 good sized holes from a distance of 1-800 meters.

It seems to me that most of your complaints about the Cetme are related to things Century did. Century makes their profits from cheaper builds and doing lots of them, kind of like having your car repainted by a dealership or having Bubba do it down the road do it when he does the 3 other cars the same color.
Fortunately I have an original German-made HK 91 of the mid 70s vintage and bought it new at the time. German people have historically made guns that are functional, well designed and hold up over the long haul. Looks to me that the Spanish version, being the CETME is substantially inferior to the original German design and even the PTR is not the equivalent of the original HK 91. The CETME looks like it has deplorable sights, bad bolt welds and loose fitting of the internals. I cannot imagine having a battle rifle where the safety falls out. The trigger pack looks loose as well. If you buy a quality gun in the first place you will not be disappointed in the long run.

papashake The CETME appears to be a POS, was a roughly produced rifle and when HK took over the production of this gun subsequently known as an HK 91 is vastly superior to the CETME. This is irrespective of them (the Spanish ) being the original designer having sold the rights of production to the Germans. The CETME is Germans were far more detail conscious in all aspects of production of this rifle. I have seen the HK 91/ G3 fired at 1000 yds with 7.62 mm ball ammo with a reasonable level of accuracy for a battle rifle. Given the shortfalls of the CETME I doubt that this level of accuracy could be achieved. My previous comments stand !

The PTR's used to be made from kits but not any longer. PTR makes the receivers and parts themselves now. Brand new guns. They have done this for a few years now. Real Spanish Cetme's are very nice. The MARS CeTME is a very sweet piece. The title should state CAI CETME vs. PTR91. You can't judge a CETME by CAI standards but this is all people know.
I've had a chance to shoot 2 HKs. one CETME, and one PTR. Hands down the HK's are the best. In accuracy, fit and finish, and reliability. Interestingly, by far the least reliable has been the PTR, which has been back to the factory twice. Basically, it will not function with commercial .308 Winchester due to the flutes in the chamber, but it does all right with real 7.62 NATO. Your Cetme looks like one of the crappy early Century CETMEs. The newer ones come with a rail welded on top, a bolt group and receiver made by PTR, and a Navy polymer trigger group. A better muzzle brake, too. They seem to be much better. BTW, that front sight post is sort of adjustable for windage, but you need a special tool, and it is a pretty inferior system.

Ok, let's clear the air CETME is the original battle rifle which was designed by a German designer for the Spanish Armed Forces he used the StG45 as a model, H&K liked the rifle so much that they went on board with Spain and thus two years later in 1959 H&K created the G3/HK91 a clone of the CETME model C. The only reason the sights are basic leaf and the weldings are ugly is because they were mass produced just like Kalashnikovs'
i just bought one of the new century c308's. i can tell you they are made alot better than the old ones. the only thing i suggest doing if buying one is completely stripping and degreasing it before shooting. the oil on it was very tacky, almost like cosmoline
I have had my CETME for about 11 years now and LOVE IT!! The only problem I have ever had was when running .308 ammo. It prefers the 7.62 nato and will eat it all day without a jam. Maybe I just got lucky with mine, but everyone I have ever taken out to shoot it ends up wanting to buy it.
For those of us who did research on this, HK sold surplus parts to both companies, and the license, so both rifles have "nos" in them. I've checked out the new Century Arms C308, and it comes with the picatinny rail. Century Arms has stepped up their game, and kept price point reasonable. "Peace can only be kept by a strong deterrent", and "God made man, Colt made them equal".
Same here, my CIA L1A1 sucks, will not consistently cycle regardless of the gas setting, I did have luck with the CETME from them and thought the luck would continue but stopped with the L1A1
I have a 2004 Century CETME that is the cast Stainless Steel version . Excellent and a completely different animal that either the Century stamped and welded one or the newer C308 ( which is better made from what I hear ) . Interesting video and thanks
Jan, sell your CETME, get a CETME C parts kit with that cash and a stripped PTR receiver, then build one. It will be waaaay better than what century arms just cobbles together.
4 years later an the ptr91 goes for $900 base g.i. version to $2800 an century arms now has the c308 which is half ptr parts anyways for $650- $750 depending where you buy honestly i own both a 2016 model ptr an a c308 an they both get the same m.o.a at 400 yards but at 500 yards the ptr is a bit better as far as fit an finish the ptr is a 9/10 the c308 is a 7.5/10 an in my opinion the ptr isnt worth the extra $250
