I remember my engineer/veteran late father telling me that "pure oxygen is not flammable son, but it makes everything that is flammable flammable as HELL"....
@@mradsoubra1344 no - oxygen itself is not flammable period. Flammable refers to substances that react WITH oxygen. In order for combustion to take place you must be reacting oxygen with a flammable substance such as acetylene or hydrogen or wood etc
@@ourniche Or even metal, if it is hot enough. The reason you saw flames coming out of those tanks when they were shot is because when the rounds penetrated them, the friction from the impact caused the metal to get hot enough, that the escaping oxygen would react with the metal and cause it to burn. At least I am 90% sure that is what happened.
You have to understand that the big round hole is burned by oxygen. And when we are talking about .338 - it definitely penetrates the tank if hit in any sector - in the center or to the side. But the big roud hole burned by oxygen will always look like it was center hit.
I am a "we the people holsters" customer and i can tell you their belts are no joke!! I have the tactical design and trust me nothing will move around when you wear it....gun holster, mag carrier,flashlight.....and yes is very comfortable considering how sturdy and rigid the belt is.....all my gun holsters are from them as well and no complaints either. Good company. Love these videos these guys are always entertaining and fun to watch.

Okay normally I roll my eyes at product sponsorship plugs in the middle of videos, but that was actually impressive, and you guys made it entertaining as well. Great vid! 👍
The SVD Dragunov (Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova) is a different weapon than the one used in this video. You are demonstrating a Romanian PSL. PSL semi-automatic sniper rifle was developed during early 1970s in Rumania as a tactical equivalent to Soviet Dragunov SVD sniper / designated marksman rifle. It entered production at RATMIL arsenal in around 1973, and was issued to Romanian army and sold for export, most notably to Middle East (including Iraq). Since dissolution of the Warsaw Pact many PSL rifles were manufactured by CUGIR for commercial export sales. In USA these rifles were sold under variety of names, including PSL, FPK and Romak-3. PSL stands for Puşcă Semiautomată cu Lunetă, which translates from Rumanian as “Semi-automatic rifle with scope”. It bears external similarity to Soviet Dragunov SVD rifle, but differs noticeably from it in almost every part and detail. PSL rifle is based on Kalashnikov AKM / RPK design, with receiver and action parts appropriately stretched and strengthened for longer and more powerful 7,62x54R cartridge. Accuracy of the PSL / FPK rifles may differ greatly from one specimen to another, generally in 1 - 3 MOA range with good ammunition.
When hitting the shot, the spark full of oxygen, reacts and increases the hole. But soon the oxygen itself goes out because the pressure is too high. Congrats on the great score! 👏👏👏
Much fun to watch. It seems that the two that launched were struck lower. Would love to see a puncture to the bottom of a tank laying down horizontal. 😃
I'm playing this for a group of women that I'm training to handle guns. None had even held a firearm before yesterday morning, but they are pointing out all of the things in the video that they have learned to NOT do when handling firearms.
So I suppose that flame when the tank is hit is the metal burning. The steel bullet (45-70 may have been lead but it didn’t break the tank) makes a spark against the metal, and a huge rush of oxygen hits it to propagate the flame for a half second or so before it dissipates enough to no longer support burning and/or the cooling effect of the expanding gas puts the fire out. So you end up with an effect similar to a cutting torch that creates that big hole. Also notice that for the tank to take off like a rocket, you have to hit it below the center of gravity (CG). When the tank is hit, the hole essentially becomes a rocket. A hit above the CG will just make the tank tip backwards onto the ground. A hit below the CG will cause the tank to tip forwards, which directs the high pressure jet of the expanding gas downwards, which creates that lifting force to launch the tank. You can see the effect quite clearly when he hits that last tank.
You got it!!...I've been working in welding for 50+ years...oxygen itself doesn't 'explode' but wil certainly cause rapid combustion. Those nice 'flame-cut' holes were my first thought...hot bullet... This is one thing movie/TV writers often get wrong....exploding (compared to bursting) Oxygen tanks...3,000 PSI in there...those tanks are about 1/4" thick heat treated steel...but I'd still be wary of pounding on a full one with a ball-peen hammer.
I tend to think that ignition is not caused from a spark but more likely the tanks metal is superheated from the force of impact and the slug passing through it. If it was a spark, it would have a tendency to leave a hole that is lopsided since the spark would occur off centre from the impact zone. All of those holes are relatively round which would indicate that the point of ignition was centered on the rounds point of impact.
A cutting torch works by heating the steel to red hot, then blowing oxygen over it. The bullet, when it hits the steel transfers enough energy to the steel to heat it red hot, in the high oxygen environment the steel itself starts to burn.
Great video! I loved it because it is just plain FUN!! :) Thank you! How do I find out all the goodies on the Henry 44? I would like to set mine up exactly like it.
This is always an entertaining channel... I really enjoy the sense of fun involved in these "highly scientific tests"! The "tractor test" was hilarious, as well as proving that these belts are just as strong as they are good looking! Looking forward to the next tests!

Edwin, were you in the armed service? I ask b/c your marksmanship is incredible and, I was thinking Special Forces or Sniper Patrol. Anyways, I really enjoy you channel, your humor and, your depth of knowledge of the firearms and ammo that you present on screen. I've added a like and Subscribed before the video was even half way through. Best Wishes, Tim Edit: I resumed watching the video and you answered one of my questions @18:27. "I am a sniper after all." I'll say. And your skill is as good as I have seen. The "flight" of the final O2 tank was awesome and my estimate was 100-120 yards. Little did I realize it was 150+. That rifle is mind blowing. Take care!
I really enjoy watching you and your assistant perform real world, zombie apocalypse experiments with different calibers. Your enjoyment comes through the screen!
Next video idea : get one of these O2 tanks but put it upside down and shoot the tip or the notch of it to see if it will fly up the sky. Great content btw.
you are very good at using weapons there is not only the trigger to push, but as I see you pay a lot of attention to safety: never muzzle the barrel in the direction of your partner, slide the weapons at the end of the shots and press the trigger in a non-dangerous direction to make sure they are unloaded . what can I say you like and have respect for weapons and I like watching how you use them my compliments.
Except for miss identifying a PSL 7.62 x54r (r for “rimmed”) and putting wrong round/cartridge into a rifle. Two examples of worst mistakes possible. Play safe boys and girls

I love what you guys do! Having just had surgery today to repair (again) an old injury in my left arm, I would simply encourage. Be careful. Sometimes something you have done a hundred times reaches out to bite you & that can have permanent consequences. I am not a safety nanny. I still do some dangerous stuff. You just help me practice my clench periodically.

@@junkdealyeah i once saw a CCTV of a manufacturing plant where there were being used for gas welding, some dude was trying to put the cylinder its place with his hands. Suddenly he lost control and cylinder dropped down and hit the ground from its top side (nozzle side). 2 seconds later, it was through 3 walls of hard concrete.
For the 45/70 Buffalo Trace has a 500 grain copper clad penetrating round in 45/70 Magnum that is made espeiially for Elephant, Rhinoserous and Hippo. Give a few of these a try in a rifle that is made to stand the pressure and with a 26 inch barrell. I think you will be impressed.
You guys are so Crazy shooting anything under pressure. I have seen Videos of those very size tanks having fallen over knocking the Valve off the top of the tank then suddenly the Tank becomes a Missile actually going through Two Train Car walls.
It' known as "leak before break". The steel is optimized for fracture resistance, not strength. (About 125 KSI-In^(1/2) ) or KSI Root Inch. Units that reflect fracture toughness. (Yes, I've designed pressure vessels.)
@@maghrebcat890 I've directed repair to pressure vessels also. Specifically I've analyzed welds in high pressure (2500 PSI) 1150 F steam drums for power plants, for evidence of creep voids. Too many creep voids in a weld and the weld has to be cut out and remade with new weld material. (All of which can be done.)
I love my PSL Romak. Great shooting rifle and is really accurate with good 7.62x54R ammo. I found some old surplus Steel core that is fantastic. Wish I could afford a real SVD Dragonov.
It's because of the speed of the oxygen coming out. It heat's up the metal on its way out and burns it away. You can see the fire when it explodes. The fire isn't from the bullet lighting it, it's from the speed of the oxygen exit.
@@xXB.FunkXx - Actually, I imagine it's the metal of the that's tank burning. Oxygen doesn't itself burn, but is a required component for to oxidize a substance; in this case the metal of the tank.
You won't know if the shots were center when they penetrate. The kind of blowtorch effect of the oxygen will always make the same kind of hole, no matter in which angle the bullets penetrated.
@@TheRealPugeHenis me neither. But looking at the ricochet ones are shaped and the angles they skipped off compared to the holes proves the holes were center
The dead on shots are the only ones that have a chance of going through, the science channel just tested it lol, the results were clear. as you pointed out any puncture would likely make a similar hole, no doubt that’s correct. However that’s not what happened here.
