CEX FAKE GAMES? 

Not being a collector of these I never realised that this was such a problem. The trouble is, once you know it’s a fake, you could never be truly happy with it. I know I couldn’t. Good video mate, very helpful for collectors to know.

I just bought some fake game boy games from CEX yesterday, I didn’t realise until I looked at them when I got home

Pretty much what Nath said, that is why I never buy GB/GBC/GBA because it just appears to be a combination of a minefield and a lottery. Time is precious enough as it is without having to take a small screwdriver set with me when I am game hunting 🤣 Good video though mate, lets hope it helps people spot the good ones from the fakes 😊👍🐻

The lettering of gameboy advance at the top of the cart is definitely a sign it's fake.

Thats a good fake, thanks for the heads up! If I see the two digits punched into the label, I would normally just assume its legit!!! So many Gba fakes out there! 👍

yes this happened to me I bought Mario advance 4 sm3 and I thought it was a good deal at the time but because you are buying from a video game specialist you would think it was real but when you get home and its not real it just angers me

The embossed number on it did look suspect it but it’s a good fake. I’ve bought this game from CeX before and I got the real thing. They upped the price to £20 now unboxed. I remember though trying to get hold of Klonoa for the GBA and took me four attempts before I got a genuine cartridge 💀

I wouldnt say its CEX doing it again. its just that retro is a small part of their business, amd the people that check them in wasnt even around when these games came out. so you can see why. If they trained all the staff regarding all the things to look out for, they would have to charge even more for the items, so i guess its really for the buyer to know. To be fair it seems a lot of effort to repro such a low value game. it probably would have been cheaper to buy it new. 👍

Could be another reason why it's like that. That motherboard looks pretty legit otherwise. Maybe the cart didn't work properly at some point and the previous owner tinkered with it? Worth pondering as it's not really the type of game people would go out of their way to fake. It's neither expensive or even particularly popular. Just seems odd to me.

Plenty of fake games on many systems about. I'm sure fake DS are in their system and you can't open them up, its purely a visual check that can be done. I'm sure most disc based copies are simple to spot?

A long time ago I tried trading in a Nintendo ds lite, into cex and they said the ds lite was fake, just from looking at the cartridge slot, they told me that will buy it in as discounted, I refused and sold it somewhere else, cex make-up lies to get items cheaper, the last time I was in cex they tried to buy in my 16gb stick of ddr3 ram as a 4gb stick of ram, I pointed on the stick where it said 16gb,and they were like. Nope that's a 4gb,and they madeup some bullshit about the stick coming in a pack of four so it's a 4gb, I told them if it came in a pack of four it would be a 64gb kit, making this ram stick a 16gb module. They didn't want to hear any of it, because they know I was right and they were wrong, always stand your ground and don't let cex scam you into a transaction.

Man that looks like a good fake, it's almost like it's in a genuine case and wasn't expecting to see Nintendo printed on the board either I'm glad I don't collect GB stuff as it seems the worst system of all for hard to spot repro's. Sorry you got stung mate👍✌️

Does anyone have experience of taking a cart like this back to cex? Are they OK about it? There's a worry they might think you're trying to pull a fast one.

I can only imagine how many fake copies of gba stuff is out there bud. I wouldnt of had a clue what to look for

I would prefer to buy a fake cartridge, then a battered, worn cartridge with corroded pins. If it was a fake, the pin contacts would be clean, your version has heavy wear. Why don't you compare it to all your other cartridges. I read online that the epoxy button is there to protect the microprocessor beneath it. There is no way that this is a fake.

Precisely why I don't really buy gba anymore.. Too many half decent fakes. Not surprised cex got stung. I have before but not by them. Shame about the game mate

How can it be a fake if it has the Nintendo logo on the pcb, the ntsc version doesn't have the epoxy button on the cartridge, but the pal releases do. It's a genuine cartridge. I think you need to be educated about genuine pcb's. I've seen plenty of pal pcb's with this button.
