Coumarin - pronounced Cooma-rin' - emphasis on the last syllable. It's a natural blood thinner and is the basis of the drug Coumadin (warfarin, Jantoven). Foods with natural coumarins should only be eaten in very small quantities if the person is taking any of these medications. In combination this can make the blood too thin and cause bleeding. So please be aware.

My mother is on Eliquis and I would like to be able to give her the cinnamon to help with her blood sugar because she is diabetic,. Would the Eliquis have the same problem as the Coumadin does with the cinnamon? She only takes a small dose of insulin, only 10 iu daily, we were told her diabetes may be temporary and she may not need the insulin for life.

I like cinnamon as well as ginger in my porridge. Cinnamon and ginger together sweeten it without any sugar. And I sometimes add cinnamon to coffee too, for the same reason. Sweetening it without sugar or any artificial sweetener.

I use cinnamon on my plants. I sprinkle it over newly seeded to inhibit mold/fungus from forming while they are germinating. I also use it to "bandage" any fresh cuts or damage to leaves by slightly dampening on a paper towel and making a paste.

I looked the difference between the 2 up so many times and I always forget - but I remember ceylon is the better one. I sent an email to McCormick asking which kind of cinnamon they sell, it does NOT specify on the packaging; they did answer me it is , yes the cheaper kind :) I used to work with a lady, diabetic (I never knew before) who would eat cinnamon on just about everything, I saw her eat carrots with cinnamon and asked.... worked well on her blood sugar.

I just received Ceylon! Opening the bag it's a much stronger smell than the Saigon (cassia) cinnamon I've used for years. My cinnamon rolls, Russian tea, apple pie fillings, cookies-- Nothing has had the strong cinnamon flavor I've been trying to achieve for the last few years. It shouldn't take 2 tablespoons for one pie. Cant wait to use it! It was only $15 a pound on amazon, great price!

That's great so what you're saying is you don't need to use as much of the ceylon because it's so strong? Less than a dollar an ounce is great. My grocery store sells it at $9 for 2 oz bottle.

So glad you are sharing this. I learned about the difference some time ago but this is an important message to get out. I didn’t know some of the benefits; I have concentrated on the blood sugar part. I always dump a tsp. or so in any cereal, yogurt, smoothies, etc. A fun use is to add some to peanut butter and a little granola to use as a “dip” for apple slices.

I have seen other information on cinnamon that said that cassia was better at dealing with blood sugar than ceylon. Infact they said that with cinnamon, where blood sugar is concerned, the cheaper the better. That's the problem I'm having with trying to use food to mitigate our health issues, there are SO many conflicting reports, and opposing opinions on what is healthy and what isn't. Everyone always says that you need to research it on your own, but all that seems to accomplish is introducing even MORE contradictory opinions and dueling studies. It's hard to know who and what to believe.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
I hear ya'! I think part of the problem with cinnamon is when comparing the health benefits of the two, cassia has had far more research than ceylon. The most that has been done between the two in comparative studies is that cassia is much higher in coumarin.
@kestag2110
@kestag2110 Год назад
That’s one of the reasons I’m doing some research myself. I started taking cassia at night to hopefully sleep through the night without a 3 am wake up and it appeared to work, for the first time ever I slept through. I switched to Ceylon because of the toxins and I’m finding I’m now waking up again at 3 am. So I’m trying to research if cassia is better for blood sugar then Ceylon. I might go back to cassia at night and Ceylon in my coffee and cooking during the day and see how I go. I definitely would not go near 1tsp of cassia
@juliebaker6969
@juliebaker6969 Год назад
@@kestag2110 Are you using it at night for your blood sugar, or some other reason? Because sweet potatoes ALSO help regulate blood sugar. And vinegar helps lower high blood sugar. I'm no longer on any meds for diabetes, I stopped them because they were destroying my kidneys. I use diet in conjunction with organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar to keep my sugar levels from skyrocketing. I also use one of those blood sugar meters that attach to your arm, and monitor your levels without having to stick yourself every time. It also has an alarm that goes off if your levels go too high or too low. With just the monitor, diet and vinegar, I've brought my A1C down from 7.9 to 7.1. Unfortunately my WEIGHT'S gone up, since I've been relying more on low carb foods like meat and cheese. I'm ALSO eating low carb things like mushrooms and salads, but they can be expensive, and have a short shelf life.🤷 Trying to balance blood sugar, weight, sodium levels, and cholesterol levels is proving to be REALLY tricky.

@@juliebaker6969are you using Celtic Sea salt or any other sea salt? I've been hearing and reading that the table salt is really not good for you. Especially when they tell people who have high blood pressure to limit their sodium. The body needs sodium for the muscles including the heart muscle. It's best to use the right salt which is sea salt. And if you need iodine just supplement.

My main use is for powdery mildew and that’s why I’m wondering if it needs to be reapplied after rainfall. In that case do you feel like I still should not reapply? I bought a 5lb bag of the Ceylon cinnamon after much research and your video confirmed for me I made a great choice. I’ve also thought about making the cinnamon spray instead of just sprinkling on the plants. Do you have a preference? Thanks again.

Where is all the gardening videos that’s the reason we are subscribed to your channel
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
This channel is not JUST about gardening, it is about self sufficiency, health, DIY, wood working, and much more. I have a LOT of gardening videos from 2016-2020 but we are currently in the middle of winter here so we have not started on our 2021 garden yet. Next month I will be starting my tomato and peppers from my own seeds though. I have well over 1200 videos all together so the best way to find garden related videos is look for my playlists on that or do a search on my channel for "garden" or "gardening" to find what you are looking for.

Good information .. HOWEVER: I cringe when they (on RU-vid) say Saylon (Ceylon) . My parents are Dutch burghers from Ceylon; we grew up with this cinnamon in our diet and still incorporate it into our meals today. Fun fact: Ceylon was the former name for Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 ~ please learn how the Sri Lankans pronounce Ceylon and maybe do some history on where it (the cinnamon) is from. 🇱🇰🇦🇺☀️🏄‍♂️💦☮️

While I sometimes find it odd when I hear people of other cultures or even those in my own country pronounce words differently than how I was raised to say them, I do not feel so inclined to reprimand them or shame them for it, especially publicly. Every language has its own dialect where words can sound very different in pronunciation. The way Argentinians say Tortilla is very different than how those in Mexico say it. Many Americans who never took a Spanish class pronounce words like Jalapeño incorrectly but this is understandable for those who know nothing about the language as they were not born and raised in it. I get many that try to convince me that the H in Herb is supposed to be pronounced and if that is how it is done in their culture, that is fine with me but I only correct such people on its origin and actual proper pronunciation when they decide to get rude and feel the need to publicly shame me over it. I am sure you yourself have words you pronounce differently than the native tongue they derived from but I would not feel the need to put you in your place over it.

Awesome info on sharing that the cinnamon werve grown on, had health risks! Cassia is not a true cinnamon. There is only one true cinnamon and its only grown in india. And is extremely expensive.. but has amazing health benefits. The cinnamon sold at stores , should be avoided. Heres the link to the Drs post ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E7rUaOchxsM.html

Yes, that is exactly what I spoke of in the video you are commenting on. but maybe you missed it? CEYLON is true cinnamon. However, cassia is not ALL bad, it has its own benefits too, but one has to be cautious of the amounts they use
