I own one of these and I feel that I can give you some of my insights. In the beginning of my ownership I would agree on some of your points like the power drop in 5th and 6th gear. Also the quickshifter was a little stiff. After going on tour with this bike in torrential rain and crap roads recently, the bike did not miss a beat. She handles great and is comfortable with a better cruise control than my previous KTM SAS. The best feature is that CFmoto seem to be one of the most progressive manufacturers out there. Most flaws in fuelling and the quickshifter have been fixed by using the phone app and downloading the latest software updates, from your home no less. Impressive results and free. In Australia this bike is $10,000 less than a triumph tiger 900 gt pro. That's huge value and saving and as this is number 12 in a fleet in the garage, you can get a great quality bike for a great price and have a true adventure bike to complement my Italian and Japanese bikes sports and nakeds. Good honest review but I think living with this bike will change a number of people's view on this particular brand. I would give mine 8 out of 10. It has better wind protection and standard features that actually work better than the KTM1290 I sold.No bike is perfect but the 800mt touring is an example of how over inflated, the prices of new bikes from the big 4 and euro models are. Thanks, keep up your good work mate.

I've been reading the comments and everyone is saying it's too expensive. Ok, so let's check the stock equipment for the touring version. Tubeless spoked wheels (Vuelta Akron with pressure and temperature sensors), J.Juan brakes (Brembo) with Continental cornering ABS, Bosch injection with 2 maps (Rain + Sport), Steering dampener, Kyb fully tunable suspension, auxiliary lights, rear rack for luggage, engine guards, aluminum engine bash plate, 12V socket, 2XUSB fast charging ports, Big TFT screen, heated grips, heated driver seat, bidirectional quick shift, full led lights, cruise control and it comes with Maxxis tires and a KTM engine (790 with improvments on the balancing shaft). The plastics, buttons and seats have top quality. Has 4 channel bluetooth to manage your devices and it even has an app to make the ECU updates yourself, use your phone to make calls or navigation. Feels very stable on the road, has plenty of grunt and it's really good to drive.... and you say it should be cheaper....

From an owner of one of these for 6 months and 7000 km in Australia. Purchase price here is more like 50% of its Japanese and European competitors. I love it and accept that I am saving more than $10k by "putting up" with a detail like an indicator switch that isn't clicky enough. Fueling is fine now updated by cfmoto app, engine feels strong and no holes. Great fast tourer. Cruise control works well. Fine to ride on gravel. Early days, but prices seem to be holding up well. Remember, many of us are not in the market for a aud$30k bmw. Fuel consumption... I measure every tankful the top up way and it ranges from 4.4 to 5.0 ltres/100 km. Bit of every sort of riding, but not too much city or long motorway trips.

I was quite excited when this bike was announced and was expecting it to be around the £8k to 8.5k mark and was surprised that it started at over £10k in the UK. Then I had the same thoughts as you because the price wasn't much different than a more established brands. Plus when you are talking about buying a bike at over £11k which tends to be slightly older people with surplus cash then a £500 to £2000 difference becomes a little less of an issue if it's the product that they really want. Then spot on with the residue when you come to part with it. The Chinese are most definitely nearly there with the bigger bikes now and are getting good reviews.

@@marcusgeorge1825 I bought a Ducati Monster 1100 a few years ago. Dealership was amazing, they replaced panels with paint issues, complete front brakes, fork seal, rear brake reservoir, investigated traction control problem and I'm probably forgetting other stuff...all in under 6 months and 6000km, great service, but haven't bought another Ducati since. Would you rather have a 3 year warranty (and read what it covers and the limitations) and use it, or buy a Japanese bike with a 1 year warranty, but not need it? These are built in China, and use a KTM engines...neither have the best of reputation in terms of reliability. I think with time CF Moto will catch up, and they have some very interesting designs coming out, but dealership network is limited, resale value (not to mention difiiculty to sell) will definitely not be on par with the big brands. I would personally go with a used Triumph or Japanese bike over a new CFMoto (add to that, new models generally need a year to smooth out the bugs).

@@kenmcphail6300 Correct, it is speculation. From my personal view, I am seeing it through the looking glass of a good riding buddy of mine, who had 650MT and bought the Aprilia Touareg now. He bought it in mid 2021 and tried to sell it around may/june 2022, just before the summer. New price in Belgium was (then) 7.200 including dealer fees. He couldn't shift it for 6000 on the secondhand market, as people didn't want to give more than 4500/5000. At the end , through an Aprilia/motoguzzi dealer, he got 5200 doing a trade. To be honest, I like CFmoto. I think their motorcycles are good value, comparing to the likes of Honda. But I don't think the resale value will heighten even if people know KTM is involved. After all, a badge is a badge. A peugeot car with a BMW motor is still a peugeot. People who buy these don't care. ( in my view)
@kenmcphail6300
@kenmcphail6300 Год назад
@@henrietn agree about it being speculation. 650mt is a very different bike from the 800mt. And reselling after/within a year has wide variations but biggish drops on most bikes. To play devils advocate... is a badge a bage? Kia and Hyundai have very different market valuations now. Bmw and Mercedes cars imo are not as outstanding as in years past. Old Triumph, 'new'Triumph ? If my 800mt depreciates at twice the rate of a bmw I won't have lost out, and would have got all the bells and whistles included as standard. Time will tell. I just put forward some potential positives versus many peoples/non owners 'expertise' about cfmoto.

I am sorry sir, but I bought the 800MT Touring with all the panniers for 11.000 Euros and I know that there are many more owners in Italy especially, that got it for just a little bit more than that. For the Tiger 900 the discount is much lower, and the average difference with the same configuration, is street price well above 4000 4500 Euros, especially if you consider all the options you need to add to the Triumph... so yes, you are right, you loose more in 3 years, but the difference is still there and you got a lot less economic exposure and A LOT of savings in maintenance costs. About the motor, I can ensure that this bike HAVE TO be tested with more than 6000 Km and the new EFI mapping (that fixes the issue you noticed), because it needs at least that Kms to express its best. Really, it's an incredible change, I can ensure that after 5000 Km it's a completely different beast. Then, it's a matter of feeling with the bike, sometimes you have it sometimes you haven't. I felt in love and I am extremely happy with this bike. At 9000 Km, no issues whatsoever and a lot of fun on the road. That is what matters the most ;) Have fun, ride safe!

Yes, valid point... or points. We have had this model in Australia for a while now and I keep going back to it in a comparison weigh-up. The value for money is almost unbeatable. What we can't do, is make the same evaluation by price point. It may be due to our location near the Asia-Pacific, but we often get some brands at a lower cost compared to the likes of Triumph or Harley. That is to say, we can't do the same 'apples for apples' comparison as you do. Anyway, resale value - agreed there will be less on offer from a three year old CF-MOTO than a KTM, but our second-hand market is quite strong. Unless you are trying to sell an oddball brand or something with a shady reputation, you'll get a good chunk of your money back if you have looked after it and present it well. The only 'concerning' factor with buying a non-traditional brand, is future support. Will I be able to get that weirdly shaped radiator hose or a new TFT screen if the one I have fails in three years? CF-MOTO have been around for a while now and have a working relationship with KTM. That hopefully, should see them on the right path to be around for some time to come. Their bikes just need to be a bit lighter.

I put a 4"wind deflector on it no buffeting at all also helped with the wind on my shoulders too. The noise of the motor at idle is a little loud rattling?? The price was what I was looking for and what you get for the money it's pretty nice. You can't find any used 900 tigers or bmw's, Africa twins for this price with all these tech features on it. I hope it last for a long time! we shall see?? I would recommend this motorcycle especially for the price point and what you get for the money. So far a happy customer.

Thanks for this. I'm keeping an eye on Chinese brands for obvious reasons, so it was good to hear at what level their "top of the line" bikes currently are. As you correctly state, at this price point they really need to match ( and I would say even beat, to overcome consumers' brand anxiety ) the direct competition. There is no way they can be inferior unless they come in significantly cheaper. But again, as you correctly identified, cheap to buy is one thing but if the depreciation is higher than other more established brands, the cheap bike could end up being more expensive in the longer term. The only situation in which this would be irrelevant, would be if you were buying the bike to keep it forever, in which case, residual value would not be much of a factor. I really can't argue with your conclusion that it's either not good enough or too expensive for what it delivers. Excellent work again RM ! Cheers, ER

In countries with higher import duties those margins are sometimes double or even quadruple… In Israel 🇮🇱 the price difference on the road between the 900GT and the fully specked MT(with the boxes) is 10,000 Euros For that kind of a difference it’s becoming much harder to choose. I would probably convince myself that the Alu boxes are not needed and so is the MT cruise control and just pick the Tiger 850 which is only 2,500 Euros more. Ah, looks like another review done based on a quick glance... Not that im defending or prasing CF Moto, but most of your points can go to trash as soon as its made clear that 1 CF Moto has been arround for ages, 2 Their prices hold up insanely well as shown by their 650 range and the abundance of quads they built in the last 20/25 years, 3 They are one of the leading sellers in most countries that arent central EU or USA, 4 these are the same people who built engines for KTM and have a good supply chain trough the masses of CF moto delaers and for parts that can be picked up from most KTM/Husqy/GasGas dealership. What struck me a bit sideways is how high their prices are on the used market. Lets say Versys 650 vs mt650 adventura (same engine just different brands), usually CF holds their prices arround 7% higher, and a lot of that has to do what all you get in the base packages, or even if you upgrade for cases and such, how cheap those are. Also my trip to Nordkapp this summer i was blown away with the ammount of the 800mt's and the 650 lineup on the roads all the way from Slovenia (where im from) all the way trough austria, germany and pretty much up to the nordic countries where Japanese still rain supreme.

Moreover, it’s disappointing to have a review such as this with an overall theme of negativity and totally incomparable metrics with premium established brands like BMW and ‘Audi’. As a motorbike enthusiast such as yourself albeit, a new one of 2 years, my fellow riding compatriots here in Australia and I, have been compelled to chat about your review over a few ales during this festive season. I generally enjoy your reviews but, on this occasion, you’ve not only missed the mark - this review lacks credibility. In Australia, to date as we’ve seen here for the past 12 months, the CFMoto MT800 is the 3rd most sold bike! We have a vast country and an unbelievable off-road terrain that’s both exciting and scary. That said, a few very credible Vloggers have put this bike to the test under some unforgiving terrain and, the MT800 has come out and exceeded expectations. Your review has fallen very short in so many aspects. I’m hopeful that you will produce more compelling reviews in the future.

The great thing is the choice that exists for new riders/older riders. Remember when Japanese bikes first came to market? They weren't great but look at them now. I live in Wyoming and we have a CFMoto dealer. Surprise, Surprise. We don’t have a Triumph, or BMW, dealer. The nearest ones are at least an 8 hour drive away in Colorado or Montana. I would prefer a BMW or Triumph, but it’s a PITA to haul a poor running bike to a dealer in another state for warranty work. So we do have a Honda dealer, but they seem to have trouble stocking motorcycles. I guess they are in containers on the docks in California. I would love to buy a Transalp but who knows when one might be for sale at our dealer. So, the CF Moto dealer put me on his list and will contact me when the 800 Adventura (name change for the US) arrives. If it fits my 6 foot 2 inch 70 year old frame, I might buy one. My goal is to downsize from my 20 year old 850 pound Harley to something lighter, but still capable of carrying the wife and our gear on trips. And to buy from a local dealer who can service it if necessary. Although I’ve done my own work on my bikes for 50+ years, so it may not be necessary. It’s starts snowing here on Thursday so I’m winterizing my bikes until March when we have non icy roads again. So we shall see. However if I was younger, I would be considering residuals. This will be my last bike, which my adult son will inherit so he can worry about that. Nice review.😎

The absence of a big gap in pricing to the established brands is appalling. This gap (or rather the absence of it) could be a result of harsh homologation/taxation rules from EU/Portuguese government and established brands may have already had time to tackle such rules (this is the only theory that makes sense to me). The main reason I would consider one of these is a considerable lower price, so it is definitely a no go to... Good review by the way Cheers

However on reflection I believe the japance bikes of the 60s and 70s, had quality every bit as good as the competition. Unfortunately for the up and coming Chinese bikes, the general quality of most mainstream manufacturers now is set at a very high standard, which highlights even more the newcomers lack of quality,which is OK, if the price reflects it, sadly on this occasion..
