CF Moto 800MT/IBEX Touring review (inc. 0-100) | On & Off-Road | From Pavement to Single Track 

Firstly, thank you. This is a phenomenal review of the 800MT - the best among the numerous I have scoured across the u-tube and web. Secondly, due to how comprehensive this review is, it allowed me to make an informed decision of purchasing the 800MT Touring model. Outstanding work for this review, very much appreciated for those who are price conscious and not whetted to big brands but rather, true value for money!

Great review of the bike for its intended purpose & overall good value for money considering what's currently on the market in that range. Having looked over the bike personally I do not think it looks cheap at all....quite the opposite. Got more features than most bikes straight out of the factory and it will makes its mark over time.

The 1-3gear jerkiness would be it running lean due to emissions, likely could be fixed cheaply (a resistor to trick the computer into thinking it’s in a higher gear) or properly re-tuning the fueling.

Would love to watch your review of the Honda X-ADV and your thoughts on its mild off-road capabilities.

I have the 800 MT Explore, same bike with a few more electronic options. You can turn the ABS off, traction control. I've only done 5500km, loving it so far

I'm confused by this review. It is glowing and destructive all at the same time. It started off balanced but in summary it was more negative..... Still scratching my head to understand this bike. Thanks for putting in the work.

I love the looks. Does it have cruise control? Does it a slipper clutch? Is the firing order 180 degrees or 360?

Did you experience any problems with the fuel mapping? It seems that CFMotor has an update available which improves this very well.

Does it have a catalytic converter that is not in the muffler? If so, the sweet spot in the mid range could benefit from removing it. In australia, that ok.

I’m looking to buy my first adventure bike and the available features offered along with the price make the 800MT a strong contender. I’ve always rode tarmac so for someone like me who wants to start getting off-road and learn that style of riding, would this be a good bike to start on or would something like a Tenere-7 make more sense? I really like the features offered by the 800MT which the T7 does not offer but the off-road handling of the T7 gets stellar reviews. I’m conflicted…

Have come back for second look at your review. Do you recall whether this engine was designed with a catalytic converter in mind? I recently removed the Cat off my aging 2001 R1150GS only to find l had a an engine with heaps more torque and midcrange power. It is like being on a different bike, and from idle the torque is a completely different kettle of fish. I personally am not interested in more power (the MT has 10kw more than my BMW, but about 35Nm less torque), but do cherish decent torque. So l wondered what this engine would be like withiut the CAT.

OTBW, good day. I hope you are well. Living in the USA, I have only known the MT800 to be known as the 'Ibex 800 T (or 'S'). The upgrade from the 'S' to the 'T' trim is worth the $1k for what you get. I have only ridden road bikes in my 26 years of riding. '80 Honda CB650 standard, '04 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Classic, '76 Honda CB750SS, '98 Honda VFR800 (5th gen) Interceptor, '07 Honda ST1300. I have not ridden off-road yet. As I start riding adv/off-road, I would probably start with an early '90's BMW R100GS....or a new RE Himalayan. I do, however, would be very interested in the 'Ibex' MT800. I would want to know more about the reliability of the KTM engine and frame though.

How would you compare this to a Tiger 800 xrx? Is it better to get the new and cheap but well spec'd 800mt, or a preloved tiger 800 that doesn't have any fuelling issues off the bat?

Should i get a used bmw gs or with the new 800MT?

I just picked up a 21 model with 12000 ks 1 owner inc accesories for less than 10k ,, i was looking for an inexpensive adventure bike ,, after owning a 18 vstrom 650 and a 16 klr 650, the mt just blew me away, i also own a ducati 19 950 enduro, (it doesnt go off road) the mt feels very similar, at a third of the price so i wont mind a few scratches,,its features are amazing ,, if your looking for a quality adventure bike id reccomend it,, it begs the question, is the mt 800 cheap, or are the others too expensive,, great review cheers

How does a parallel twin compared to a V-Twin engine?

What about if you have someone on back? Is the rear seat comfortable ?

Does the 800MT IBEX have the super low (horrendously dumb) gearing that the beautiful IBEX 450 has? The IBEX 450 is geared so low, it turns 6,000 rpms at an indicated 60mph, which is truly insane. WHY are people not complaining loudly about these amazing high powered new motorcycles having no overdrive gear for the street? I am still waiting for one company to design a bike with a proper overdrive in 6th gear. Note: 6th gear should be such a tall gear that you can't use it at all, except when you're cruising across the open desert on a long highway at 80mph.

@onthebackwheel - Curtis - can you share what the ride difference would be between the VSTROM 650 & MT800? I'd appreciate your perspective. Money aside, which would you go with and why please.

Have seen it in person and it looks ok. Live in Sweden and it is a new make here. Therefor buyers will be suspicious of it and it will probably sell bad. Bad aftermarket value. Will it be long lived as a make here? If it leaves the Sweden market what happens to the support? Hmm will stick to known makers i think.

The fuelling issues on mine went away if you change it into rain mode.

Why didn’t you use the quickshifter to do the 0-100?

Nice bike but will any manufacturer ever make us a lower powered 30-40kg lower weight bike? 🙁

You said it's not compared to a Tenere. But isn't this bike significantly better, with 25 more horsepower, and only a little bit more weight than a Tenere, and cost about the same? I think a Tenere engine is almost identical in it's design, and so the bikes must be comparable in a lot of ways?

19,999 AUD for a standard Tenere .... wow .... that's 12,960 Euro .... in the EU they sell the 2022 Standard Tenere 700 for 10,900 Euro (in 2023). The 2022 Rally version with some accessories is still 12,400 Euro, same price as last year. I guess I was extremely lucky to buy an almost new 2021 Tenere 700 Rally for just 10,400 Euro last year in April

It's a lot of bike for the money and a four year warranty. If you stuck a KTM,BMW or Triumph badge, on it you'd pay a lot more. Think we sometimes we worry about the badge to much 🤔 🤣🤣

That's the problem with asian mfrs. They design bikes for 5ft men, which, with the seat and tank designs, make them ball busters in a collision, or anything that throws your body forward.

I do agree this "Review" was thorough, but! Bikes do come with pillion foot rest, double up and lets get a 2nd opinion, load it with gear, TOO !!!? With my 50+ [still riding] years of motorcycles, scooters etc, mechanic and test rider.. Briefly involved with Two Wheels and REVS publications, I knew a few of the review writers.. lot of memories.. So if you are going to review a motorcycle/ seems copycatting/ in most no need for joy riding, its fun/ think of it this way look at the future riding.. remember back in the day they where Trail/Dirt Bikes and it was an "adventure".. I had a Yamaha XT500/ made all the carry rack gear and used an old camera case for a [top box] anyway...just an opinion not met to be disgraceful..cheers
