CFMoto 450 MT | When you are thinking about Small Adventure Bikes, it's hard not to think of ADV Matt. Few, if any, riders in North America have travelled more on a Small Adventure Bike than he has. When I wanted to get someone Elses opinion on the new Ibex 450, I knew Matt was the man to go to. - Frank

I have just over 500 miles on my CF Moto 450 NK and I am absolutely in love with it, with that being said I’ve already told my local dealer I want to be first on the list for the MT 450 and I do plan to do a long trip Maybe even an iron butt. I may even do it with my two small dogs and yes, I will definitely video this. I had all the Harley Davidson models in the touring category, and I am definitely tired of the large heavy bike and want something smaller and more nimble to do a little bit of everything with and not be locked into one category. I also had the BMW GS 650 and that is a thumper, but I don’t wish to continue on. I also had the DT 125 in 1984 and I loved it but it did not have the power of this 450 by any stretch. When I talk to my dealership just yesterday, he told me that the CF Moto rep was there at that moment and that he has two MT 450s ordered and he’s hoping to see them in 3 to 6 months.

I’m booked to test ride the 450MT in June and can hardly wait - it’s the bike I’ve been wanting to see for at least 5 years. After a lifetime of big, powerful, superbikes I’m ready for something that takes me back to my roots over 40 years ago. This bike can do it all - local roads, commuting, highway cruising, fire roads and genuine trails, but most importantly in relative COMFORT. As an older rider that is my number 1 consideration now - I’m done with aching backs, backside, shoulders and arms, just need that upright riding position whilst sitting IN the bike not ON it. Plus that fantastic little 450 twin, 270 degree, engine that has already been proven in the SR and NK models over the last two years or more. There’s only 1 thing missing that would make it the perfect bike and that’s cruise control, but I can live without it and get a throttle lock instead.

I bought a 2024 CFMOTO 450NK in March and have 3k miles on it now. No issues so far. The transmission is a little clunky when shifting at lower RPM’s. There is a sweet spot that it likes to be revved to for smooth shifts between 6-7k rpm’s. I hope they smooth out the fueling at low speed on the MT or your going to be doing a lot of clutch work in first gear slow speed. Outside of that, I have a blast riding this bike. The pillion seat has almost no cushion and is very slippery so carrying a passenger more than a few miles is not an option. My wife was fairly bruised after an hour round trip ride. The down low torque allows for quick acceleration and plenty of passing power. It pulls hard in every gear for a small displacement bike right up to about 90mph then tapers off rather quick. The 270 deg crank is noticeable at low speeds in the form of a slight on/off surging sensation, possibly due to low rotating mass/flywheel or balancer’s. It takes a little getting used to as just a normal operating condition. When the chain stretches and gets slack you can really feel the lash which enhances the surging feel. Proper maintenance eliminates that however. All in all it’s a solid bike so far and if the MT (which uses the same engine) is built to the same quality it should be a great platform. I was hoping it would be a bit taller for a less cramped rider triangle but I guess they have a tall seat option so that should help. Just have to wait until I can throw a leg over it. ✌️

The CFMOTO 450 MT is selling like hot cakes here in Australia! They hit the bike shops last week and filling in all the backorders of over 400 deposit paid customers. The demo bikes are now available and I was going to test ride one today but it looks like rain is coming and I dont want to test ride in heavy rain. Some of the guys who have picked up their bikes have all good feedback. Yes one has said its heavier than his CRF250, but seriously? Ya think? Haha A few have said this is not a full on enduro weapon, but we knew that anyway. The Tenere 700 is the biggest selling ADV bike in Australia but I think the 450MT will beat those sales in the first 4 to 6 months. The 450MT is getting the nickname T4, as many have said its a baby T7 Yamaha, but not top heavy. I think for the ADV world and people getting into adventure/off road riding this could be the unicorn. The KTM 390 is and will always be a road bike converted to an adventure bike, hence why I will probably sell mine and buy a 450MT if the test ride goes well. Now just to be fair I have also arranged a test ride on the new Himalyan 450, but I prefer the look of the 450MT. Would love to see some one do a 3 way test with the 390, 450MT and the Himi 450. P.S. I dont think I will wait for the new 390 Adventure as from the very recent spy shots its looking more like an enduro bike which is not what I am looking for and there are just too many issues with KTM these days. Sorry for the rant. lol Thanks for the video guys!

I have to think that was just some corporate talk. They'll let this have a couple years to work out any quirks and they'll come out with it, same chassis and engine; ride by wire with all the modes, low gas tank, 'heavy duty off road' tubed wheels, and non-adjustable WP Apex with 215-225mm travel, and it'll cost $9,500 (390 ADV is the bargain price of $7,600😆).

@Al.j.Vasquez Месяц назад
Perspective, the 450 MT is not a small bike for most people or markets, it's just not, but it's a smaller bike for the tasks that it can accomplish, i think that size and weight is a compromise, you don't wanna ride on the highway with a bike that weighs as much as an enduro bike, 125 KGs with 60 HP, being blown away by the wind because it is too light, that's not an adventure touring bike characteristic, neither is a 220kg+ bike that is clumsy off road and it's hard to pick up. My Versys x300 is close to 190kg kerb due to the center stand, the protection guards and the tools i carry, still, i have felt unsafe when the wind is blowing real hard, it's not a great idea to make a bike let's say, 25kgs lighter if you want to cruise on it. And I don't think it's too heavy off road, the 450MT is superior in shape and suspension to the Versys x300, maybe the 450MT is the perfect compromise between on road, off road behavior, capabilities, and the subjective stuff like the looks and sound.
@33SquadraCorse
@33SquadraCorse Месяц назад
Hi! But the versys 300.... do you put it on trails? Where I'm going, I don't think I could take it. Maybe a better rider would take it up. The Mt 450 is a completely different animal. Much better package than the versys.
@Al.j.Vasquez
@Al.j.Vasquez Месяц назад
@@33SquadraCorse Good evening, yes, I've taken my versys x300 to places i just can't stop to record a video or take photos because the trail is really messed up or it's not advisable to stop right there, I'm not sure how bad it is where you're going, but I've been to sketchy trail roads, just nothing worth calling enduro, maybe just a couple of times but not because i was willing to do so, but because i had to take that route, i use my bike for work and for many years i had to fix computers on many schools, rural schools, at very awkward places where there are only a few students because the place is isolated. I wouldn't advise to use the Versys x300 for something enduro like, but my off road skills are inferior to the capabilities of the bike. A couple of months ago i went to see some relatives at the mountains, and i put more trust into the bike and i felt more capable than ever, I'm still learning to ride off road despite of my maybe 25.000 miles ridden on dirt since i started riding motorcycles back in 2015. I know my cousins would get more off of it, they pretty much did amateur motocross for a while, i get a little anxious when i see a difficult section even though the bike handles it better than i expected. Still! I believe the 450 MT is made to be way superior to the Versys x300 off road, and I'd like to feel more confident pushing my skills knowing i have better, bigger rubber and suspension gripping the dirt.

@@33SquadraCorse The tyre i use is the Dunlop Trailmax TMX, 130/80/17 and its matching front tire, they're a great compromise with pretty good off road performance and great on road performance for a dual purpose use.

The only issue is that notwithstanding the clutch lever is so easy to pull in on the MT the feel at the friction zone leaves a lot to be desired. There isn't as much front end feel on twisty sealed roads as I would like but the bike kept its line thru the twisties nonetheless. The RE has better feel thru the twisties. But the biggest difference over the Himalayan is when you twist the throttle, it feels alive where the RE feels a bit boring, keeping in mind we are talking 450cc. The gear box and clutch is way superior on the RE. Highway travel, the MT is king with the RE having the vibrations. The MT comes standard with goodies that the RE would be optional extras. On balance, my money would be on the MT, mainly because it's more lively than the RE when you twist the throttle.

You guys make a ton of great points about this bike. I have been waiting for something like this for a while. I thought Kawasaki would make a versys 400. They didn’t. The cb500x is too expensive. The ktm 390 is kinda pricy and needs some tweaks.plus they updated the engine for the duke 390 and haven’t done so yet with the 390adv which I think is hurting sales of it. I went into a cfmoto dealer to pick up a first bike because they had leftover papios dirt cheap at my local dealer and I thought it would be a decent way to test cf Moto reliability on a cheaper bike before dropping 7k on this. But when I was at the dealership they had a used Honda monkey so I got that instead. I am absolutely loving the monkey. Better video than the last. 🤣 It’s great to get some new choices in the small (under 500cc) range. I really wanted to like the 390 Adv, but couldn’t get there on buying it. Both the RE Himalayan 452 and CFMoto Ibex 450 appear to be better choices on paper. Given these new choices along with the 390 Adv, I’m not sure why anyone would buy a new KLR650. It’s strange that Kawasaki hasn’t put their ~ 450cc twin in the VersysX to make a bike that would dominate the small Adv segment. I’m guessing they don’t want to contribute to the KLR650 demise. I’ve seen CFMoto all over the country - I’m not sure where or if they have a dealer void.

@Al.j.Vasquez
@Al.j.Vasquez Месяц назад
10:00 I disagree, the bike that kicked off the small adventure market was the Kawasaki Versys x300, the regular KTM 390 had existed for years to that point, but Kawasaki made the first Adventure Touring like bike under 650cc that could become mainstream, and it did, Suzuki followed after that with the V-Strom 250, but it's more road oriented, so it didn't really fit the adventure type. In fact, KTM joined the party quite late, even the Zongshen RX3 reached the american and Hispanic market before the KTM 390. Even "BMW" came up with a GS 310, but it was an Indian bike with a BMW badge on it. KTM released the 390 adventure on 2020, 3 years after the birth of that segment. Kawasaki was the first one to give the people a twin cylinder on a bike that was fairly capable off road, but the 390 Adventure comes with a much better suspension, on a lighter bike, which is more suitable for off road, but the Versys is an overall on and off road better bike.

Versys 300x was the first small twin adv for sure . But it's more cosmetic than function, this CFMOTO is the real deal performs well off road and on .
@Al.j.Vasquez
@Al.j.Vasquez Месяц назад
@@MotoCampAdv My journeys on one are anecdotal proof that it's more than cosmetics, i can do stuff and go places with it that would be more difficult to reach with my former bike, a naked bike, the Pulsar NS200, which is almost the same thing as a KTM Duke 200. But i agree that the CFMoto is way better for off-road use than the Versys, the suspensions alone would make it better, and it's shaped more accordingly for it. It's gonna be my next bike, it's gonna outdo the Versys x i everything but fuel consumption and maybe, just maybe, twisties. Now, to backtrack about the cosmetics over function, the bike has a longer wheelbase for a 300cc, it has spoked rims at 17 and 19 inches, it's not just a touring or sport bike playing dress up, it supports good rubber for off road use and it's quite stable on the trail, it's not as smooth to ride off road as a dual sport but it's way closer to one than to a sport bike because its suspension is unique to it, Kawasaki doesn't use the same forks in any other of their bikes i believe.
