Have you ever wondered how to find the correct CG of your plane? What about lateral balancing? In this video Tim shows you how to get your plane to be neutral and then how to balance your plane laterally.
Both of these are important measures you should take if you plan to fly 3D.

Brilliant - nice to see a natural teacher in action - every rc flyer should see this video! Den, Cymru.

thanks Chuck! What I like about this is it gives you a more "quantifiable" way of looking at it. You can begin to really "see" the fall off more accurately and decide what you typically like. Makes it go much faster once you know your preferred curve

Another great instructional video from Redwing RC! Great job Tim.

Thank you brother, great video. I have been having lots of CG and lateral issues while landing. Does the same methods apply to EP models as well?? looking for a good method to set the thrust vector of a gas to EP conversion?? once this dust storm dies down, right out to the field I go....

Yeah, I always thought the inverted 45° CG test method was subjective to throttle curve and anyone's opinion of what "a little" or "a lot" looks like, etc. This method seems solid.

This CG method is new to me, I like it. However, it won't work with anything other than a symmetrical wing. Can you suggest how to CG a non-symmetrical or semi symmetrical wing on say a Cub or Citabria?

When you typically balance a plane. Fore and aft, this is Lateral balancing. The plane is rotating around the Lateral axis, also known as the pitch axis. It is a line that is drawn from wing tip to wing tip. The opposite to that is balancing longitudinally. This is along the longitudinal axis, also known as the roll axis. This is a line drawn from nose to tail.

Funny.....I thought PITCH meant Up and Down.....and ROLL meant Left or Right......In what universe did you learn how to fly ? I assume your models can defy gravity aswell ??

I think the general understanding is longitudinal balance is tested around the lateral axis, lateral balance is tested around the longitudinal axis. Precisely correct scientific terminology only confuses the issue.

Isn't a little just a tad more than a smidgeon ?

incomplete. Wings and stab incidences are important variables in the equation. First check this !
