Sonic Triple Trouble review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Sonic Triple Trouble for Sega Game Gear, also available on Sonic Gems Collection for the GameCube and the 3DS Virtual Console.
Mack was a knife, as Mario RPG taught us, but Nack was a weasel. Or maybe his name was Fang. Point is, you can still do a great Sonic game on the Game Gear. In one of the last 8-bit outings for the hedgehog (or fox, your choice), Triple Trouble starts to play with the format a bit. Dropping score screens to more effectively transition into a boss fight, or adding the snowboard power-up from Sonic 3. Strange that the postmodern interpretation of Sega's flagship series had to come on its comparitively low-power handheld. You think you know old-school Sonic? You can't really say that until you've played this one. (If only for the music.)

Randomly picked this game up for game gear yesterday for $5 at the mall but now I can't afford batteries to play it lol. But based on this video it seems like I got a great game here

I had this game as a kid. It was the first Sonic game I actually owned. I played Sonic 2 on my brother's Genesis every time he came over.

Glad you included the train scene, one of the most remembered scenes in Sonic history, nice music also (that went unused in Sonic Chaos i think) and also Fang the Sniper, nice character with nice music too.

Triple Trouble is also included on the Sonic Adventure DX release for GameCube and PC, along with a bunch of other unlockable Game Gear Sonic games.

I was a Nintendo kid. I had a Genesis and a Game Gear, sure, but I just wasn't really interested in them. This was one of the few games I had on Game Gear and I loved it so much. This takes me back to the blizzard of '92 in New Jersey, curled up with a blanket and playing the crap out of this game. The main title screen theme song really gets stuck in your head.

I wanted this game so bad! I already had Sonic 2 on Game Gear. I had beaten the first level on it once out of pure luck since that game's so unforgiving. My dad made a deal with me. He'd buy me Triple Trouble IF I beat the first level of Sonic 2 once more. My Game Gear died before I could ever beat it again. Moral: My dad's a smart man and an epic troll.

You can unlock it on Sonic Adventure DX for the Gamecube, too. You may have to invest some time in getting the Chao race emblems, but it's better than paying real life money.

I remember there being an Archie comic tie-in for this and it made me want to game really bad but I didn't have a game gear. I'd look at the game in Ames (yes, Ames!) and want to play it but alas, I never got the chance until the days of emulation. And it turned out to be pretty good, the best portable Sonic until the Advance games came along.

there,re a universal amount of sonic games on the gamegear,so much i can't even count,sonic the hedgehog 1 & 2,sonic tripple trouble,sonic choas,sonic blast,but these platform games are good.

It's not strange for a Sonic game to be released in the US before Japan, Sega is an American company, it was founded be an American and though the vast majority of its employees today are Japanese its headquarters is in Hawaii which is part of the US.

I used to play this game up till Sunset Act 3 then turn of the game gear and start over just because I loved that part so much. Now the screen is busted :(

No it didnt. Back when I first saw the Game Gear version in store I just assumed that a Master System version would have been released simultaneously as was the general rule of thumb at the time-I remember being gutted when the clerk told me it was a Game Gear exclusive.

You don't have to buy a thousand batteries now days with the Game Gear. Just buy an off market batter pack, or use modern day rechargeable batteries. You get about 14 hours of gameplay with either one.

This game was waaaay too easy. I got it when it came out in '94, beat it in less than a day , and then made my mom return it. It looked great though for an 8 bit game.

Sorry Benjy, but you are wrong. The dreamcast, PS2, xbox 360, and PS3 are all 32-64 bit. There are currently no consumer video game systems, or computers for that matter, that operate at on a 128 bit architecture. This will mostly likely change eventually, but for the foreseeable future 64 bit will remain the standard. So next time, please make sure that your information is correct before you go spouting it out willy nilly.

atari 2600= 4-bit, NES= 8-bit, sege genesis= 16-bit, PS1= 32-bit, N64= 64-bit, dreamcast= 128-bit, PS2= 128-bit, xbox 360= 128-bit, PS3= 128-bit. nuff said

sega genesis was 16-bit but then when they made the 32x which it increased the bits into 32-bit if you look at the history of the atari jaguar thats suppose to 64-bit but all it is 2 different 32-bit processors put together or some s*** so no wondering why games didn't look like 64-bit later PS1, 3DO, and sega Saturn came by & made a 32-bit 3D but when N64 came, you can easily tell it had more superior graphics than PS1 and why because of N64's 64-bit processor you must be a stuck with PCbits

the PS3 is only 32-bits and its the most powerful console. Bits where just marked back in the day by companies like sega so they look better than nintendo. So bits are bull shit and have little to do with the consoles graphics
