Friends arrive to help us with the Orange Room, and Rob wrestles a mammoth radiator with.... quite the result. Then attempts to repair the broken lantern on the back Patio. Leslie attends to the roses and work continues on the main floor guest room.

The yellow-flowered plant is Gorse, in the pea family. As pretty as it is, you'll want to keep it from taking over. It's a pest plant in coastal California. And, as you noticed, definitely prickly! Further down someone gave the correct botanical name (Ulex). Fontainebleau is fantastic. I lived there for 1.5 years, basically around the corner from the Chateau. One of the great things about that chateau is that it's more completely furnished. So, you get a sense of what they were like lived in. There are parts that date back to François I, and one long hallway with lots of wood and Frescoes dates back to his time. So a great, historic chateau.

Great accomplishments this week! Just a quick 2 cents worth...at 17:00 when Leslie is scanning the grounds and we see the gorgeous Cedars of Lebanon, it struck me how much more impactful they would be if the smallish self-seeded trees in front of them were removed. No job is small, I understand. Just me dreaming about how gorgeous the grounds will be with time! P.S. I love the orange trim too!

Idea: if they offer the service, have the local French electric service provider out to the chateau, and have them do an energy audit! I wondered about this when you found the electricity still on, at the pavilion building, several episodes ago! There is no way two people could be using $1,000 euros of electricity per month! Maybe, they need to install a new meter, something is wrong somewhere! Do you only have one water heater operating. No AC, no heating, what else could there be? Do you guys have some large freezer maybe? It is definitely worth exploring, for sure! Thomas!

If you can’t find anything, then go around the chateau, and install l.e.d. lightbulbs everywhere! They come in all shapes, and sizes these days, even chandelier base, etc. Even yellow light, or bright light, the ranges offered is endless, even adjustable wattage flood lights! Thomas!

Darn it Guys, missed the live update, been up with the Iceland Volcanic eruptions. Hope you are all well (you’re both looking magical) and geared up for the mammoth task that this Chateau presents, but hey you are putting your touch of elegance throughout this most ornate residence. With the wallpaper there must be places in France that should be able to duplicate the pattern, though as Lesley mention it would look great in a nice Brocant frame. Je vous souhaite à tous les deux une semaine très constructive, prenez soin de vous et soyez prudents. Que Dieu bénisse. 👍😇🙏🏰🇫🇷

Leslie, I really love the orange especially if you have bedding with the orange in the quilt print, or maybe throw pillows etc. The orange really isn't my thing but because the rooms have such high ceilings you can get away with bold colors whereas a small room would look overwhelmed with the color, I would also have white sheers at the windows, that would be beautiful . I thought the yellow bushes were forsythias bushes but for the thorns, I just don't know now. Best wishes, Kathy USA

You mentioned the cold. Does the chateau have any chimneys in working order? A woid stove (or two) combined with the woid from fallen or removed trees could provide cheap heat. (Cheap because there would be a cost for the stove and possibly a chimney liner plus your labor to cut and gaul wood.)

Oooo, that yellow flower prickly brush looks like Gorse. If it is, that's not good. Dig it out at by the roots. It's originally from Scotland I think. We have it here on the Oregon USA coast. Big fire hazard, burnt the town of Bandon down way back when. Spreads like weeds and is very aggressive. Very bad stuff.

We're not super denominational, I would say generic Christian. I worked in E. Free churches for many years, and I was ordained in a Mennonite church. School I taught at was inter-denominational. All of those were under the Protestant umbrella, and also historically mostly Evangelical denominations. I think the church we're attending in France is a bit charismatic (certainly more than we're used to:). All of these were good folks. We try not to be the people that think that only our very small sliver of Christianity has it completely right.

Please consider wiping the filler with a damp cloth after you finish. It will limit what you need to sand and probably prevent the need to sand. Must be damp, not wet and a spong would be best to get an even finish.

Just make sure you rinse the sponge every time to get the gunk off and make it damp. Just hold a bowl of water as you go along.
