Enrique Jorrín created the first cha-cha-cha. In those days they called it rumba-mambo and later they started calling this style cha-cha-cha. Here are the percussion patterns for this nice rhythm!
The link for some variations on the conga pattern is here. Enjoy the lesson!

Wonderful lesson - Love that you talk about the history of the rhythm and show multiple instruments.

It's great when a great teacher praises another. I was watching your class, so I got here and realized that you were here too. Its two channels are precious.

@@denizardfonsecamoraes1827 I agree; such acts only come about because of respects (to oneself and to others) - they are already at the top of their games!

I am happy that you enjoy my lessons! For me, the total music is important and I like to play a small part of the complete rhythm and enjoying this part. Of course, like you, I want to understand the structure and melody of a rhythm.

Thank you for your persistence and your time, giving me uplifting spirits on this foggy 58 degree day in San Francisco.

Well done Michael. For once more simple and basic explanations that help all the musicians to understand the structure of every style. Especially the drummers can realise that all that they play is nothing more than a combination of these instruments.

"Searching for the sound with the attack" is a beautiful, verb phrase that actually draws a cartoon image in my mind of a student with a guiro stick 'searching' or woodshedding over and over until he or she finds the right sound. . Yehūda Joel

I've just discovered you Michael and I find you very personable, in depth knowledgeable and able in all aspects of Latin percussion. Your nature is very layed back without stress or driven and I find the intensity of my playing fading away watching you. Velocity and force are really less important than the structure, melodic and rhythmic quality that you communicate. Gracias Profesor Congador. DMB

Great lesson _ my teacher has me alternating between this cha cha, bolero and afro which I find is achievable with some concentration- his idea is between the 3 you can cover verses, chorus and other emphasised parts. In truth I find the breaks that accompany entries and changes in the song more of a challenge to learn and remembe - thanks for your kind assistance Michael

Your welcome! About 3 congas, I think I would play an open tone on the first beat on the conga. The part that I now play on the conga I would play on the quinto.
