After a long day, a saxophone player walks into a RU-vid video expecting a great performance. Ears dialed and ready to criticize......nothing....pure enjoyment. Inspiring. Thank you to everyone involved in the video for making the art called jazz.

You are the proof that you can still make a living doing art! I have been playing the sax for 7 months now and my dream is to become a professional musician. I love bebop but I don't know how to approach learning it. I also absolutely love your sound. Can you please suggest some sound exercises and sources to learn bebop? Thanks in advance Btw I bought your ii-V-I/i courses and I would love to buy approach note courses!

@@davidolahmusic I know I bought 2 courses from him. But the language and ability to improvise over bebop tunes still isn't coming. I'm sure I need to do something else.

@@sergej100qca4 I would suggest to start with basic exercises - jazz articulation on scales, arpeggios...playing with solid rhythm. And than to practise some tunes - jazz blues, rhythm changes. Playing the arpeggios of the chords - 1 3 5 7, learning that way chords and melodies and than play it by ear. Next thing after that is vocabulary - learning phrases in all 12 keys, memorize them and try to improvise with all those devices - arpeggios, scales, but mainly blues riffs. Making your own exercises with a few notes, working rhythmically - creating motives, riffs. Try to play simple question and answer phrases with nice and easy rhythms - chceck out oldschool swing masters like C. Basie, Lester Young etc. and try to emulate those swinging riffs. Also practise some etudes based on standards. Chads are great. Jim Snidero, Mintzer or Fishman has also very good etude books. The best thing is to memorize everything - phrases, riffs, q and a motives, melody and harmony of the song and than play it by yourself with metronome on 2 and 4. Keep chcecking out if you are outlining the harmony. If not, go back and practise the arpeggios of the chords you are missing in your improvisation. Aim for the chord tones on downbeat. If you cant play the tune from memory you dont know it well enough to improvise over it. Hope it helped :)

@@sergej100qca4 remember you've only been playing 7 months. Things like this don't come that easy. It takes years, to assume anything different is almost arrogant, we are all hypocrites of this to an extent :)

I have a question, is there a particular reason why you don't use a bell mic? Do you just find that a fancy stand mic has better sound etc. etc.? You would eliminate having to worry about keeping your bell in the mic so that your sound doesn't fade in and out. Just one less thing you have to worry about, just a thought.
@TK-xo2mf

He doesn't look too worried to me😎
@sethpannifer6491

Most of the resonance of come out of the whole body - not just the bell(except extreme low notes). Although bell mics can sound good, using a condenser/Ribbon mic on a stand is more likely to get an even tone across the whole sax - especially noticeable in a top notch recording like this one (Chad is one classy player!)
