@Texan White Panther really? I love Jim carrey in most of his roles, but I can see why some people wouldn't like him. He makes some weird faces but I like it XD
Jd Abraham You’d think so but Chad’s not some indie artist he’s a very highly regarded well established musician his timing and skill is impeccable, to have him at your venue is a privilege. I think if they pulled that shit he’d just walk out fr coz he already has all the money he needs, respect is what we wants.
@Greg A no Chad look annoyed but he knew he had to play it like a joke cuz then his Rep would make it seem like Chad is an ass versus Chad smith loves a joke you know?
How ironic when some of the greatest heavy metal and rock bands came from Europe in the late 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. The schtick was staged for a little comic relief imo. Will was really funny.
@@MichaelGiordano777 Exactly, I mean metal was invented by Sabbath so.. Such a weird comment for chad/will to make - the kind of comment you’d expect from someone who knows nothing about rock and metal lol
Even when he's mad at being called Will Ferrell, Chad Smith pulls off a temper tantrum like Will Ferrell. He should have trashed his kit whining like a hysterical toddler for 5 minutes.
0:48 that's genuine anger and frustration. Then the crowd laughs and he snaps and storms off stage. But he gathered his composure, avoiding a meltdown and then told the audience he was acting. It's a good save, and the show went on, but he definitely did snap. The giveaway was when he asked the guy why he would ask the question. There was palpable frustration in Chad's question.
@@INCAnitysy nah it’s genuine. I’ve been mad like that many times . I know anger problems when I see it lol especially when he said “I don’t know what’s wrong with me” .. relatable
100% that was real. Everything about it and how after he said “I don’t give a shit actually I’m famous cus of him fuck that guy”. He says he doesn’t care then immediately shows how much he hates being called will Ferrell. There’s so much more but it’s painfully obvious
Yeah the tantrum and stuff could have been a really good convincing fake anger, but how he compares himself to Will (I was in a pretty popular rock band for a while...f*ck that guy). There was no comedic effect in how he said it, but he was bitter, so why would that be a joke?
I dont know... maybe there was another incidents about it, maybe he s so tired about it... but anyways, i would take in other ways... after all our faces are some repetitive arround the world... is a fact.
joel rangel if he was legit pissed why would he say "shut up"?? Thats will ferrel would say to you "shut up"... I think it was a set up.. If he dont want to hear will ferrel name his not suppose to say shut up because that what ferrel favorite words
joel rangel if he was legit pissed why would he say "shut up"?? Thats will ferrel would say to you "shut up"... I think it was a set up.. If he dont want to hear will ferrel name his not suppose to say shut up because that what ferrel favorite words
We all have times we can't be arsed with other people's repetitive bullshit, most working people have to deal with it on a daily basis though, but everything is relative. I guess it had worn thin for him.
You can tell in other interviews when it gets brought up, the band even reacts in frustration over it too because they know Chad is sick of it. If this was a joke dont you think the bamd would've laughed and not just awkwardly stood there?
Chad shows he’s human! Said ”I don’t know what’s wrong with me!” Probably heard Ferrell jokes everyday since the Drum battle on Jimmy Kimmel. He came back! Respect!
Imagine being in one of the most popular rock/alt bands of the 90s and 00s and the only times you got recognized in the streets is when someone says you look like a comedian
Not the fans. The fans recognize his immense work for the music. I don't think I have watched any movie with Will in it. Not intentionally...I just don't find the guy THAT funny.
Imagine being a nobody and nobody recognizes you , plus you have to work a shitty job and have money problems etc. This dude has it fucking made compared to 99% of the US population yet he wants to act like a little bitch. He deserves to get boo'd off stage for that. People taking time out of their lives to go support him just so he can be all cringe and an ass
Like a few have already said, at first he probably liked the will ferrell thing but after years and years of hearing people call him Will Ferrell it must get really annoying for him, maybe he feels like he's losing his identity a bit, he's worked for years to get where he is and who he is, he's practiced and played for longer than a lot of people in the audience have been alive, accomplished incredible things as a drummer, just to be mainly known for looking like someone else, imagine that.
He achieved NOTHING as a drummer. His band did. There are GAZILLION of drummers who could be sitting in his place. He just happened to be in this super successful band.
Yea it's sad, most people actually know him as "the dude who looks like Will Ferrell". It's not necessarily a bad thing though because of it he's one of the most famous drummers alive. Maybe his history with the Red Hot Chili Peppers isn't the spotlight but honestly being a drummer in a famous band alone won't really net you much spotlight.
Ya, reading comments, most people seem to miss that he was also frustrated at being interrupted. I also think he was expecting a little applause or a few 'boos' for slamming prog and Euro music, but got a completely unexpected reaction
Moral lesson: Don't talk thrash. Even celebrities have days having zero tolerance to taunts, jokes and/or sarcasm. On one end, that's the "perks" of being a well-known and successful public figure. Yeah, Chad Smith went angry, had tantrums, and even held a grudge. Props to "sir" Chad regathered himself and practiced Steven Covey's "90/10 Principle" when this situation arises.
He wasn’t joking though, he was basically saying that’s a no-no, he sounded serious and that’s why everyone got super quiet. Also, after Chad Smith leaves the stage who’s going to start laughing? It was a tense moment.
He went on the Conan O’Brien show to play on their likeliness, then he gets mad, and yells at a fan when the fan acknowledges it? He should be less Red Hot, and more Chilly Pepper.
Chad all time greatest power funk rock drummers - Will Ferrel one of the funniest comedians around - both 10/10 got nuffin but love... its not a competition
@@phaserunner2413 Yes he did act like a weirdo. Yelling "shut up!!" in a fit of rage, and then getting up and leaving is weird and is literally among the worst ways to have handled the situation. Then he tries to go out there and save face and is still so butthurt he can't even fully pull that off. "Why would you say that man?" Yeah, it's all totally normal.
It doesn't only matter how it was meant but also how it's received. People have the right to be pissed at something even though it wasn't meant to piss them off.
Guy in Crowd: Hey Chad, you look like a Hollywood celebrity who's 5 years younger than you. Chad: How dare you say I look younger than my age! I'm gonna stomp off the stage and come back saying something something Europeans.
That is what you call crowd control he came back and was super genuine with everyone, even had them starting the beat and got right into the next song without skipping one.
Nah, he wasn't really angry at any point I don't think, even his initial yelling had more bemusement than anger it, he was just screwing around the whole time. Still, there's always got to be some mental giant in a crowd who has to yell the most obvious thing that comes into their head for their little five seconds of fame.
@@yellowblanka6058 there wasn't even the slightest smirk when he yelled SHUT UP. That yell was pure rage from his eyes and his breathing. He legitimately became unhinged for a moment. Like will Smith did with the slap. Got triggered by a build up of shit, and being interrupted
@@longebane Not sure if you're being serious or not, but listen to his voice, the tone is responding to a friend who's ribbing him, not "pure rage", lol. That and he almost immediately comes back to the stage tells me he was mildly annoyed at best. If it really bothered him THAT much he wouldn't have gone on Jimmy Fallon and had that "drumming challenge" with Will Ferrell.
@@pottergeist Right, which is why I mention him coming right back to the stage and performing and him later performing on Jimmy Fallon. He was mildly annoyed at best, not "raging" as one user suggested, lol. I think there are a fair number of people in RU-vid comments that don't have any idea how to "read a room" or reactions.
Been there, done that - my theory is that we all got two deliberate, specific words that, when spoken in succession, trigger us hard. Another thing, no one ever talks about the thousands of times he DIDN'T snap before that, so get your blood pressure down, please. He's human like the rest of us.
I guess we can't know the context. Maybe beyond the occasional well-meaning ribbing he MUST get - I mean he did have that "traditional drum-off" on Kimmel, after all - there was a build-up to this outburst. Perhaps he'd recently had some shitty heckler running the joke into the fucking ground during a recent show and really didn't want the night's performance vibe fucked up by hecklers running with a tired gag the very next night. Or some similarly plausible build-up to his outburst, just being human. I doubt his rage spawned in a complete vacuum to make him go off so unpredictably. You could tell he was still upset about it, but he calmed down and regained focus quickly enough. But holyshit he def did himself no favors by sounding EXACTLY like Will Ferrell though. lel
Imagine being a legendary musician, part of one of the biggest bands of the last four decades, and then being constantly compared to a better known but infinitely less talented person just because you sort of kind of not really look like them. I’d start hucking toms if I were him.
