That's actually my goal for youtube. I'm not planning on doing any sort of subscriber milestone specials, but my ONE GOAL is to last a little over 4 years, so I can say that my RU-vid channel lasted longer than the confederacy did. Just a funny goal I set within my first month on the platform making content.

Story time. One day I was at a reenactment fighting in it. I was on the union side and the confederates were across the river. The rebels try to demoralize us and play Dixie. We started to sing Union Dixie and started to charge across that river. That rebel band stopped playing and high tailed it. Never saw anybody run so fast in my life.
I get it’s a joke, but the history is actually kinda funny. Union Dixie was incredibly unpopular in the Union, to the extent there was a rumored event where General Sherman almost shot a musician for playing it
The Union: enslaves children to work in dangerous factories instead of letting them pursue something like education so they don't realize they live in a concrete plantation and try to leave, but it's okay because the kids are technically getting paid and slavery no longer exists. Also the Union: still treats black people like second class citizens after ending slavery, but it's okay because they're no longer enslaved in name.

The post-civil war southern sympathizers basically rolled back progress on racial equality and created a deluded subculture of neo confederates that still peddle lost cause and religious extremist ideology to this very day. Trust me, your words make sense and come from a good place, but we can't really reclaim this song as a good old southern song unless the ones who claimed it have been thoroughly left in the dustbin of history.

Dixie land may have a shitty meaning but yes it is catchy. Edit: I recently learned that Dixieland originated as a minstrel song which has changed my perspective on the tune. Make of that information what you will.

It was never meant to have any kind of racist connotation and the writer of the song himself hated how the CSA used it as their unofficial anthem and even said he never would have written it if he knew what it was going to become.

well to stop misinformation #1 union dixie is not a parody of dixie land. it's a parody of To Arms in Dixie. common mistake #2 it says dixie is "a racist traitor song", while the song only orignated in the south, and has no lyrics suggesting racism (although they can be interpreted that way, but most in the south just see it as a nice song, and it actually became oddly popular in the North), blacks, or even the south other than the word Dixie and some very southern speak.
