Looks like my cup of tea, Rodney! I can see some competitive gameplay brewing. Won't be t..Oolong before I buy a copy. Your ' how to play' videos win by a Chamo-mile! The other presenters are no Matcha for you! Sorry...these tea puns are getting a little Pu-erh...ile now. Shall I stop?😁
@@victorymanifesto3953 The base game kickstarter was December 2018, but if you mean fulfillment, then yes, that's just finishing up now. about 99% of folks have their stuff from the first Kickstarter.
Funny story: I was working in my Univ project about making a board game prototype (yes, mine has a course about board games) and at one point looking for examples of a rulebook online aside from my memories of reading them. Then I found this game's publicly available prototype and used it as some sort of guideline for mine. So it's pretty fascinating to see the exact game here being shown.
Rodney, This is by far the best playthrough you have done! Do more like this! Not only is your explanation on point the sound is good and you’re not speaking too fast! I watch so many playthroughs that have too much background music or commotion going on or the speaker seems like they’re paying by the millisecond of airtime. This is how a winning board game tutorial should be. Good job and once again thank you.
As a heavily chai addict and after growing up and spending hours at tea stall on Indian streets, I take my chai seriously. I am already sold on this game no matter how it turns out to me. Components and artwork is delight
Great video! Really clear and easy to understand. Playing this at an event tonight and needed a quick tutorial. Worked great at X1.75 playback speed! Thanks!
A Canadian, commenting on a Canadian boardgame youtuber doing a video on a Canadian boardgame #boardgameception. Keep up the great work Rodney! Now we can bust out the game!
Beautiful game, thanks for the explanation, Rodney! I have a craving for tea after watching this, like a momentum, perhaps. MomenTea, thats a good name...
Hi, Rodney! I'm here on a rec from the Kazmaiers, who I met online through being fellow due South fans (I'm the one they call "the biggest due South fan south of the border" -- and THEN I found out they are also fellow boardgamers and tea-lovers. They tell me you are also a due South fan and who sometimes cosplays a Mountie at conventions (I do too). This is a great instruction video, and I am looking forward to learning this game and others from your video instructions.
Hey with a username like that, you must be one of the biggest fans :) Recently re-watched the series so I could share it with my son. A special show! And hey, welcome to the channel :)
@@WatchItPlayed I am indeed one of the biggest fans! Both arms covered with wrist-to-shoulder tattoos related to due South, and I have been representing due South at several fancons around the U.S. every year for nearly a decade. Great that you are now sharing due South with your son -- handing the due South torch to the next generation!
@@foglight11 Man, if Rodney is getting you to spend money on not just games but tea as well, then, wow, he sure is good (but we already knew that, I know :)
What a cute game! Unfortunately, I can't find it on Amazon or my favourite game stores here in Canada. I'll have to keep searching. Thanks for all your wonderful videos. I use them to decide what games to buy next.
@@WatchItPlayed lol Fair enough. Still, it would've been cool if one of the orders you were showing to be filled had been your own. :D Great video, as always! I backed this one for the original Kickstarter, and even though I played a demo at a local con, I've been having a little trouble keeping the rules straight in my head. Your video made it simple to understand. Thanks!
In addition to the Kickstarter they have going now, you can still get the deluxe version from their website: steepedgames.com/products/chai-kickstarter-deluxe
Hey, who starts the next round? The player sitting next to the starting one or the player sitting next to the one who took the last turn? I think the rulebook says, it is the one sitting left of the starter, but in that case the player not necessarily have the same amount of turns. Thank you! 😀
You'll find this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P51mmr1m8kc.html - whoever was due to go next, just before the round ended, goes next.
I would like to see how the co op should be played. It says something about that the Chaiwala will fulfill a card in the customers pool, but when does this happen?
My copy of Chai came with 10 tip tokens - does this mean they've increased the number required or are they likely spares? Weirdly though the components list on the rules pamphlet state there are only 6 tokens in the box....
You start a new round by shuffling the tip tokens and placing one beside each tea cup. The next clockwise player from the one who ended the last round adds a new ability card before starting their turn.
Once fulfilling an order, does a player put the ingredients and tea token in any tea cup and collect that tip? And once all tips has been filled, the round is over?
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
I also found this confusing, because it seems like each round would end pretty quickly. I suppose you could prolong the round by using the same tea cup, but then your opponent will simply snag it and the remaining tip. Seems to me you'll almost always fill between 4-6 orders in a game, unless someone plays very poorly.
Couple questions that came up during our first playthrough today: 1) does the gold tip coin tip ability mean the player gets a gold coin on top of the tip token or instead of? 2) does the gold tip coin ability also apply to the game end meaning that players cannot use this ability to still get a tip since the rules state no tips in the remainder of the final round (since the tokens are gone)?
I don't believe we show any metal coins in this video. Do you mean you have metal coins in your copy? If so, you can use those in place of the cardboard ones.
Hey Todd, I'm not sure what you're talking about. There isn't a clip on the first player marker. Where in the video did you see that? Can you provide a time stamp?
@@twarnken That's the round tracker, not the first player marker :) You'll find the first player marker shown in the very next scene (the green teapot), and later in the video, it is explained that you advance the clip to keep track of the rounds.
