The melody was composed by Herold Lavrentievich Kittler, a German born conductor of the 6th Tavrichesky Grenadier Regiment in 1914 in the Tsarist Russia. It is known in Russia as the Expectation Waltz, Вальс “Ожидание”. Yiddish lyrics were written and performed by Chaim Tauber (1901-1972).

As far as I know, CD does not exist. There is, however an LP album. It is rare but can be found occasionally. Also, the melody of "Ershter Vals" is a popular waltz called "Expectation" by G. Kitler

Thanks for all of the great info. One little typo, perhaps. Chaim Tauber was also billed sometimes spelled Towber, but not, I don't think, Tower. In Yiddish more like "toyber" spelled
