Ive worked with these carbs a lot and I've found if you take them off of the machine and soak in gas for awhile, it sometimes helps to avoid a replacement. I do this a lot at the beginning of the season because as they set up, over time, parts can dry out.

Good Job doublewwide 6 You performed that job like you have done it many times.The tight fitting fuel line is critical, with out that tight seal the lack of back pressure won't let fuel into your carb.The diaphragm inside the carb works like a fuel pump in conjunction with vacuum drawn from the underside of the piston. Every time the piston raises up the cylinder the diaphragm pumps the fuel into the carb..Huskies draw the impulse pressure through a passageway through the carb block/mount and from the cylinder. Stihls utilize a impulse hose that is separate and attaches from the case to a hose then to the carb I'll give you a pointer on saving you starter rope, starter spring and pauls. When starting a cold saw, set your choke on, then pull your rope/handle slow , drawing the entire length of your rope extended from the spool. repeat this around six times, not to slow but enough for the saw to sound like put, put,put. .then with fuel loaded to your cylinder, take choke off and give just one strong pull. the saw will need to be pulled a half a dozen times to get fuel into the cylinder, no sense in jerking hard on the first 5 or 6. Like the story about the old Bull Elk and a young Spike standing on top of a ridge, looking down at a herd of cows. The Spike looks up at the Bull and says.."lets run down there and fuck one of them cows"! The old Bull looks down at the Spike with a grin and says.."lets just walk down there, and fuck em all"

@doublewide6
@doublewide6 7 лет назад
I'm not perfect. I guess with all the dirt on the old carb I thought about closing it up. What you didn't see is I blew it out with my air hose before I installed the new. Also during reassembly the choke was not on yet, so I could not lock it.
@Bwanar1

Obvious you knew what you were doing, just don't always remember every last detail. I understand perfectly. Filming also complicates things immensely! I ordered one of those kits for a cheap spare saw I was going to throw out. If I get it running I'll donate it to the hurricane efforts.

I had another cause of bogging out that I’ve fixed. I accidently used chain oil in the fuel instead of T2 engine oil. The engine run at idle but bogged out at high revs. When I put the right fuel in it was OK. I went through all of the cleaning and adjusting processes it was only when I tried a new mix of fuel that I realised the fuel in the tank was yellow, the only T2 oil that I have is pink but both bottles are black and look the same. All the best . . . Andy

After 30 years - I only reblt a carb twice... use clear fuel and Seafoam - cleans most any carb from barely running to normal..just saved me opening my 13 hp Honda also - it works
@shinyokoyama8470
@shinyokoyama8470 4 года назад
Sea foam is the only miracle in a bottle I swear by. I have a comercial pressure I bought for cheap. After cleaning the tank out from rust The tank had a little water and rust still in the bottom of the tank. I cleaned the carb and put a new fuel filter on. it would run for 3 mins and die. So since seafoam has worked on even diesel engins with water in the tank for me I tried it and it took a few time of dying and starting then it started and kept running but a little rough the in about 2 mins it was purring like a kitten. Seafoam is the best

All the carbs (for the most part) are produced over seas, OEM or other. The aftermarket ones are usually adjustable which is helpful. Walbro has a location in Michigan, but most of its locations are outside the US and Zama is Japanese.

@stevealaska73
@stevealaska73 3 года назад
Jon, most often, the remedy is in the carb replacement. Bog down occurs when the air / fuel / exhaust balance is out of whack. Keep in mind that a carb replacement doesn't eliminate the problem when the bog down is due to exhaust screen blockage.

A little WD-40 on the fuel line works wonders in pulling it thru the hole
@doublewide6
@doublewide6 7 лет назад
It helped out quite a bit. The new fuel line was wider than the original.
@paulbillings1791
@paulbillings1791 5 лет назад
WD-40 will actually attack the rubber. The solvents and penetrants will evaporate and the residual "oil" gets really gummy after time. Deep Creep is a pure petroleum product,not a bunch of things tossed together. Anything that tells you to shake the can first,is usually garbage. Only keep that kind of stuff around for stuff that is rusted together and it is a "I'll try this before I throw it away" type situation. WD stands for water dispersant and 40 was just for formula number 40. It wasn't intended for all the things that are thrown in its direction.

Cheap Chinese carburetors from my personal experience, and from online forums, RU-vid, etc. reports and success has been good. The competition on Amazon is apparently so stiff, that not only are they practically giving some outdoor power equipment parts away price wise, but it also seems to be a one up contest on who can include more "goodies" with the main purchase. Amazon is going to wreck the small brick and mortar guys, but I love the selection, service, convenience, and deals.

very often the small lever which diaphragm actuates inlet needle with wears down and does not allow enough fuel at full power regardless of high speed needle setting. Believe me I have done that very same modification in a pinch , I have enlarged that hole and the hole that exits the fuel tank because there is a cavity between the top of the fuel tank and the Chainsaw body , drill it and pull the line through with excess line and then put a small dab of silicone sealer suitable for use with fuel and then just pull it backwards from the fuel cap port until a ring of silicone forms a complete seal around the fuel line and the up sized access you created so the saw can be manipulated in any position without any leakage....

On that series of husky and poulan behind plastic carb heat shield is the pulse tube that is most often brittle that can cause fuel starvation.
@shinyokoyama8470
@shinyokoyama8470 4 года назад
If you are talking about the 142 Husky the pulse tune is a little green thing and I have tried everything so I did not have to pay 10 bucks for that little piece of Junk after I bought one and messed it up. But most pulse tubes is like a fuel line or it goes through the intake manifold which is the one I like. And yes that will cause fuel starvation that is how the carb knows how much fuel to feed.
@nmurph111
@nmurph111 6 лет назад
Chinese carbs are hit or miss I bet your problem was that old fuel line. It gets old and hard outside the tank and soft and some of it gets gooey if left submerged in fuel for extended times. Both will let the saw idle fine but fall on it's face under load. Also, Tygon fuel line (lime green) will harden with age, and the cheap junk that comes with those Chinese kits is even worse. Buy Husqvarna pigtail fuel lines from the dealer. They are designed to tolerate ethanol blended fuel and will last for several years even with constant exposure to fuel.

@cbnx82703
@cbnx82703 7 лет назад
I only said that from experience, if you order that fuel line straight from Husqvarna you will notice a difference for certain, I know you have made yourself a copy of the same installation tool that the Chainsaw Guy pushes on his channel that seems to assist in difficult installs . The original line from Husqvarna appears smaller both inside and outside diameters , the Husqvarna line is much less of a quality construction then the yellow Tygon line you used in your video , the important facts that you will discover is replacing the impulse tube on the back side of the carburetor mounting just under the blue colored manifold on the left side of the saw. Very common air leak there because it's only a press fit from the air tube that is made of extruded or cast plastic that deforms and degrades over time . This is the time to check and replace this impulse tube while you have it disassembled...

Wayne Peake wind ur idle screw clock wise quarter turn, or better still has it been to the shop for its first service?
@67yankee1
@67yankee1 5 лет назад
Wayne, you might have weak clutch springs or a brok en one. A saw can be tuned perfect but when a clutch spring goes bad your saw will either stop fast and or your chain will run all the time , even on idle. if your clutch springs are ok then turn your hi and low jet screws clockwise til they bottom out, not hard though, they are steel your carb seats are aluminum. then turn your low screw out 1 turn . turn your hi screw out 3/4 of a turn, that will put you close . you can also adjust the idle screw.

I usually only have to do this on saws that have a lot of running hours on them , but You might also want to consider opening the gap on the spark plug about another five thousand. Makes both warm and cold starts easier as well.

you said that you shut the choke to keep dirt out, why ? when you are putting on a new carburetor.

any extra dirt, don't want it falling in the throat of the carb.

If you had paid attention to what you were doing, you would have put the gas line over the top of the carb just like it was when you took it apart, DUH................hope that works out for you.............

That's an interesting comment/concern considering you didn't bother cleaning one bit of crap off that saw before digging in then left the intake wide open.
@67yankee1

it is a good habit, a friend once dropped one of the two 8mm nuts inside the carb all the way into the cylinder, thin king it dropped on the floor, he replaced it then ruined his saw when he started it

You put the fuel line in the wrong location . You never want it on the side of the linkage m plus you dont want the line to do a short arc 180.

You didn’t run the correct route the original pipe came over the carb not under it looked like it could interfere with the throttle linkage

I'm a Husky fan. But that is an old saw that's not worth fixing. I've got all the models, from 3120xp's down. Go and get a 550xp. Excellent saw with warranty. Good video though. You're a skilled mechanic.

Hey why not rev the nuts off a cold saw for a bit longer. You could get some great material for a new video when that saw has a cold seizure.

@doublewide6

Battery powered saws are really nice for trimming and pruning. Gas powered is a must for anything over 12" diameter IMO. So battery for little stuff and gas for the big stuff.
