I would have bet money I had at least one broken clutch return spring, because the chain was turning like it was hooked directly to the crankshaft. The drum was dirty with a hard packed ring of crust in it which was causing the chain not to stop at idle. It still barely creeps forward at idle, I'll talk to the Stihl dealer about this as I don't know just how strong the springs are when new.
At the end I show an Echo 310 chainsaw and how good it is at stopping the chain at idle.
I'm going to talk to the Echo dealer and see if I can get more information on how Echo accomplishes this so well.
