"Get whacked by a branch which took the helmet off..." 🤣 Been there , done that...I could listen to You talk whole day long. Love your videos ! Thank You for sharing !
I get questioned on my saw choices all the time. Short bars, no dogs, or small ones if I do, half wrap handles, and most of the time I grab a hot 50cc class saw over my bigger ones. Up here in NW Ontario, the timber is small due to our short growing season, its primarily softwood, or softer hardwoods, and my heavily Scandinavian influenced east coast pulpwood upbringing is hard to shake. I run what I run because its what I grew up using, and various injuries over the years make me notice the extra weight quickly. In the past few years, I have mostly been salvaging from slash piles, so dogs make even less sense as I am very rarely falling. I also grew up with dad's big hardwood saw being a 254 and the production saw being a 242, so my outlook is different than most.
I love to hear your opinion and experience on different products. Also how thinking ahead like carrying a chain instead of a file will get the job done in time. It really puts in perspective how to better plan for unexpected circumstances. Thanks for the video.
Simply put many great points and common sense in this video nicely done. As far as saw bars go the more rivets the bar nose has the longer they last, that's bean my personal experience. A four rivet bar being the worst, five rivet standard fair and six rivet being the toughest; the nose doesn't splay out or open up as easy with more rivets holding that bearing steady with heat and wear. Lot's of good info for those wanting to learn if their willing, take care.
52 at joe indian yesterday. Looks like its gunna be a great week to be in the woods, lows in the 10s highs right around freezin. Nice to have the ground tight again.
I guess, what would they bring to the table the Husqvarna bars don't, I guess another way to ask is what would your expectations be vs. X-tough bars? AND that's almost $300 bucks, can buy 3 Husqvarna X-Tough's for that kind of change!
I wish my 652 had a little more torque , it feels like it is just under 60 cc compared to Stihl. If I was young again I'd buy a 572 with a 26-28 inch lite weight tsumara bar.
With warm weather and sunny the top 2-3 inches of the soil thaw and are full of water makes super slippery mud. You get no traction. 4wd only helps so much.
