Chainsaws come in a wide variety of sizes and power, this video runs through the different uses for each, pro tips for maintenance and things to avoid to prolong the life of your saws. Getting tips like this from a professional Arborist is priceless if you want to understand saws better. If you have any questions about anything please leave a comment, Martin knows a lot more than what is featured in this video and will do his best to reply.
The saws featured in this video are the Stihl MS150, Stihl MS201tcm, Stihl MS 201c, Stihl MS 260, Parker 58, Stihl MS 500i and the Stihl MS661c.
I'd like to say a big thanks to Martin from Greener Glens for helping to make this video, I really recommend you check out his Bushcraft RU-vid channel or Facebook page, here are the links. He makes some amazing things and has a wealth of knowledge.

I'm a tree surgeon myself dude, loved the intro 🤣 ask him if he prefers the old 020 compared to the new plastic ones? They've surprisingly help up well despite the plastic, but the fuel caps are terrible over complicated crap. Give me a screw thread anyday haha. Hope you're well dude

That's cool, I didn't know you were a swinger too! I've no idea what an 020 is but I'm sure Martin does 🤯 I'm doing good mate, hope you're well too 👍

Hi hippyswift, The 020 is a little old school for me but I used the ms200t a lot & of course it fantastic & was the preferred climbing saw of every arborist out there & many folk keep them going for years through expensive rebuilds. The first version of the 201 was a disaster but the updated version is great especially if you port the muffler for some extra power. The ms201tcm in the video is 5 years old & has never failed me in anyway so that's the saw for me & it'll out perform most 540xp s that I've come across.

@@GreenerGlens yes Indeed a fine saw 👍 my model is the ms201t which works well. Had to replace the clutch and handle fitting a couple times but has stood up surprisingly well 😁 my big saw I think is the 461/466c which is a beast but far too heavy to use all day. In the woods I mainly use old hasquavanas as always getting beaten up haha. All the best for your business my friend 👍

Man that was interesting even though I'm not an arborist, tree feller, or log cutter-upper. Thanks!

Thanks Barry, I wasn't either until a few years ago I got a wood stove in my workshop, then the world of chainsaws sucked me in 😅👍 All the best mate. Skye

G-day man. 🤙 my 261 stihl bottom end went, and computer solenoids packed up every six months. Just got husqvarna 550xp yesterday, it's a beast. My 8 year old 357 husky is still going strongish, even though I drop it in the river a few times a year. Good film man. Take it easy. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Where I'm from (central Ontario, Canada) we pronounce Stihl as "Steel" chainsaws; perhaps that's just a Canadian thing, eh? We Canucks say all kinds of funny things...lol Anyway, thanks for yet another interesting and informative video!
@GreenerGlens
@GreenerGlens 3 года назад
It should be pronounced steel like the germans say it but almost everyone says still in the UK because of how it reads in English - keep saying steel - you're correct.
@SwampValley
@SwampValley 3 года назад
Canada, eh... See Martin and I were pronouncing it more clearly than the full on Scottish accent where it's called a Stuw 🤣 All the best mate 👍 Skye

Back in the late 70s and early 80s we had those and Husqvarna on our farm. Everybody in Oklahoma back then called them Steel. And it wasn't until many years after I had moved away that I heard someone talking about a Stihl chainsaw. It wasn't until I saw the name that I realize they were the same chain saw that I had grown up with LOL

Wow that was really neat seeing all of those chainsaws together. I had no idea there were specialty chains and bars for carving! I know this was in the maintenance video but seeing as how he mentioned the importance of using a good quality oil and having good clean gas. I was a little disappointed he didn't speak about bar maintenance and Bar Oil since he did Cover chain tightness. You know me though I ain't complaining bro glad to see another video from you!

Hi Rex - you've brought up some good points there. We knew we weren't going to be able to cover all the info on chainsaws here as there is too much to fit in one video but we can cover what we missed like maintenance in another video if there is demand for it. Thanks for watching. 👍

@@GreenerGlens all right I'm good to meet you my fellow Scottish brother! Yeah if I had to try to keep track of everything that I wanted to put into a video my videos would have probably gone somewhere lol. Just kidding I had health problems that I'm getting over right about now is a matter of fact. But anyway keep the spinny side pointed that direction and stay safe......

Great vid mate, I've got the Stihl ms 180 entry level saw, it's relatively cheap to buy and works like a dream, and it's made me loads of money over the years 😂 I would recommend it for those people just learning to use a chainsaw.

Also it should be mentioned that when using a chainsaw most professionals and home users should let the chainsaw do most of the work. It should be in good working condition and sharp enough where you don't have to lay down on the top of it and force it through a piece of wood. In the video the expert shows excellent chainsaw handling abilities on a round piece of lumber demonstrating how to rock your chainsaw back and forth and utilizing the bar teeth leverage the cut properly through a large piece of wood.

Years ago I used to work in an old saw mill. They had and old electric chainsaw that ran off 3 phase mains. 30 odd inch bar and the motor weighed a ton, but jeez could it cut. When rip cutting, once buried, you put your knee under the rear handle and shoved as hard as possible. You couldn’t kill it. No brake handle, never mind inertia brake. Before the days of H&S. 😄

Hi guys super serious message here. The policing bill that they are trying to bring out will put an end to your way of life it is to target off griders, gypsies and travellers. We all (including fans) need to contact our local mps publicly (social media) and let them now that we want them to oppose this bill. This is serious guys. This bill will put an end to these channels. Please share this message with as many channels as possible please. Together we have a voice

None of them the 170 is a small ground saw for cleaning up branches and other homeowner tasks.
