A long time ago I used to work at a concert venue (Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and we got always free tickets. Unfortunately, these seats were at the very top of the venue. Chaka Khan was the supporting act for Al Jarreau. After finishing her bit, Al Jarreau did his part. Suddenly a magical woman appeared behind us, walking with grace and watching Al Jarreau. Quite an appearance. She wore an outfit like the one in this video. And of course the hair ....
An absolute legend, a warm, full-bodied soul/funk belter - very versatile across a band of different genres - and a lady who has survived downhill slumps and tragedies that would have sent many other singers to their graves, or to oblivion.
Wish I could have been there! True CHAKA FAN down with her since the 70's. This was a great performance by her and her band family! 👏 She is truly ❤️ one of the best artist to ever take the stage! I wish nothing but ❤️ 😍 💖 love to her and all her fans! She was so ✅️ right please don't 🙏 drink and drive a car. This world needs you!
I'm so glad I got to see Chaka Khan twice with Rufus. First in 1975 (I was 19, Sacramento, Memorial Auditorium) and then in 1979 at the now defunct Circle Star Theatre in San Carlos (near San Francisco). I then saw her as solo a few times afterward until 1994, while still promoting her 1992 album, "The Woman I Am." in that 20± year span, Chaka was in all her GLORY as was her VOICE. After that, her voice began to go south. The effects of depression, weight, health, drug, alcohol, and smoking problems, etc, just took their toll. I'm so glad that I got to see her when I did. What a national treasure her voice was at the time. THAT SAID... THIS performance was just AWFUL.
LOOK HERE,I'M 59 NOW AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SIGN LANGUAGE PERSON SIGN LANGUAGE TO MUSIC EVER.THIS WAS A FIRST FOR ME AND I COULDN'T HELP BUT BE WATCHING THE SIGN LANGUAGE LADY ALMOST AS MUCH AS CHAKA AND HER BAND.THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO FOR REAL.AND NO NEED TO THINK I'M YELLING AT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE HERE.I JUST PREFER TO TYPE IN BIG LETTERS.IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE FROM ME TO YOU.
Its disappointing to see a Legend performing with that many empty seats. A lot of people judged her based on what went down at Versuz. Clearly, this proves Versuz was just a bad night. She sounds amazing here.
That had nothing to do it trust me these events usually come with price of admission of Fair Ticket .They are great paycheck also Trust me the moment Chaka left the verzuz battle stage she never looked back just forward
I saw her at MGM in MD couple weeks before the Versuz and she gave a great show. I saw her at Capital Jazzfest in June and people were leaving because her performance was lackluster. The real deal is Chaka is back on that stuff. I still love her.
@@prettyacct Or maybe she just tired. Chaka will be 70 years old in a few weeks. What a lot of ppl dont realize is she has been touring constantly since the 70s. Prior to pandemic, unlike most of her counterparts, I cant recall when Chaka took a whole year off from touring or even close. It has always been her primary source of income. She was never a huge crossover artist so she could not afford the luxury of taking long breaks from the road. Honestly I dont see how she still maintains the strength to keep up her schedule.
Your right! I didn't know about this show I blame myself for not "keeping" up with the latest! Must have been a "bad 🌙 night" she recovered 😉 beautifully and came back as the CHAKA her fans expect! Thanks for your reply!!!
I love this lady i have seen her in concert with Al Green in her prime this footage is very poor on my phone it a fair show no close ups of any body or anything if U are going to look at any show i should be able to see 5 out of a 10 maybe she didn't want no close ups
She was here in h town tx last week.ove seen her several times.chaka gives it up n concert n be just full.i love it when olddivas get full as fuck n show the kids how to deliver the funk after 40 yrs of fame n still be funkier sexier n sing way Betta than any young silly bitches calling themselves singers and superstars shit....they no longer make the so if u get a chance to see one before theyy all dead it's worth any amount there just as few of the dark divas left of the world..Chaka Diana Ross Aretha's dead oh and Gladys is still around and Patti LaBelle and stephaniemills n fact those last three r on tour together as we speak
*SIGN LANGUAGE LADY did great, and was Groovin at the same time. Very nice! Chaka doing her thang ......Thank you Chaka. You did great ! You are LEGEND! Never forget that! Thanks for sharing* !
The legend funk songtress, Ms. Chakka Khan, won my confidence back with her deplorable Versus performance. Like an elegant, pristine, splendid, opulent black eagle, Khan have emerged with a phenomenal concert. She sounds and looks spectacular. I cannot believe at 69 or 70 she looks and sounds well! Her background singers and band were fire!
Chaka Khan played in Podunk, AL in the mid 70’s I think it was , I was about 23-24 at the time. (68 now)..I had the chance to go backstage and meet her and the band. Even invited the band back to the bar I worked at after the show and they came ! We had a drinking contest ..I won ..or they let me win lol 😂 The only band members’ name I remember was the bass player (Tony) , I think it was.. Truly a once in a lifetime thing and a great memory. I’m sure none of them remember me though..😂. She’s still stunning :)
This was incredible show!!! Chaka is and always will be an outstanding singer and performer. A legend in her own time. And hats off to the sign lady doing a fantastic job. Totally awesome performance. Thanks so much for sharing this. It really brightened and inspired my day.
She's still sounds good but she seems like she's not putting a lot of effort I saw her life a few months ago it's like a lazy concert to me there's no energy
She is still good. You can keep your opinions to yourself. This video is for Fans to enjoy the show and for them to have a great time. It’s okay you don’t like her. But please be respectful on the comments of this video, thank you :)
@@copywritten8462 agree completely - when you're a performer that has to show a video collage of your past career to let people know how successful you were, your career is over. Shouldn't have to run the video behind you playing all of your hits to remind people who you are. The seats in audience in this video don't look half full. Chaka's voice is thrashed. Serious pitch issues. Time to hang it up. The California State Fair...really? Fair gigs? Without the songs she had with amazing production written by other people, she would have never gotten where she did... Finally - a sign language interpreter? Really? OMG.
It is ridiculous to have someone doing sign language in front off the stage. I would have been pissed to pay top dollar for the best seats and have to see this sign language broad more than Chaka for the whole show. Unfortunately the angle that this was filmed from features more of her than Chaka
