The Bible, 2 Maccabees, Chapter 12, Verse 46 says " It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosened from their sins " Based on this Jews pray for their dead for 11 months. In fact all religions pray for their dead except Protestant as Luther removed this book from the Bible. To a mystic of the Greek orthodox church Jesus says " Restore the pages you have hacked from the Bible " Prayers.
