I have painted an entire cheap laminate dresser with chalk paint and used no primer - we used it for several years and never had any peeling. This is why I love chalk paint so much!!
I love how this turned out. I am repainting night stands that I pained a couple years ago and changing the look a bit. Filling the drawer hardware holes and changing those out. I now have gray in my bedroom. I love the new Chicago Gray but I do have an entire quart unopened of French Linen. I think I will just use that because I have it. I hope it truly is Gray enough. I think it will be. I used to use French Linen a lot several years ago when I had an antique booth that I painted lot of items and put into the booth, but I not have anything that I kept to compare it. LoL I just recently found your channel and decided to start painting furniture again. You have inspired me.
Geeze I'm so happy you came up on my grid. We just brought home with 3 bathrooms the still standing since 1974 and since we do not have the funds to redo the bathroom washing this video gave me hope. I plan to follow your directive and I'm sure it'll come out just as beautiful. I'm so thanking your video fell in my lap and thanks much for all your excellent input on working on a budget.
@@Tunenine Thanks! I'm considering it for a bathroom cabinet, and if that works, then the kitchen cabinets. I'm amazed that it doesn't actually need sanding & priming...can that be true?! I'm glad that you could paint your bathrooms & make your home look the way you'd envisioned it! Congrats on the new house!
I have watched several videos on painting cabinets with chalk paint. This by far was the most informative and gave amazing tips. The spray bottle is genius, and how to store paint in jars and brush in zip lock bag wonderful.
Christina, I ❤️ your tutorials. Your great!! Your bathroom cabinet looks amazing, I can’t wait to paint mine. Oh and your banister. Is gorgeous OMG. A little hard work goes along way. You probably saved $2,700 - $3,500 Easy. I started painting with Annie Sloan paint about 6 years ago. Just small stuff. The reason I stopped painting and didn’t do all the big projects I intended was because I hate the wax. It never looked good in my opinion. It was frustrating because I took classes, talked to people about using wax. They all said it was the best, I was told many times never to use any kind of top coat.. well one day I did I used a top coat and I loved it. Then a couple years ago they come out with General Finishes, now suddenly it’s ok to use a top coat!! I’m just happy that I’m not the only one who prefers top coat over wax. Thanks for all the good tips, information, and taking the time to make the tutorials. I think your great, love your style. Can’t wait to see what’s next!! 😁
I like them both, but the wax can be tricky for some people. I’m sure Annie herself would gag at using anything but wax. But like I say, painting is subjective. 😉
That bathroom looks identical to my hallway bathroom. I've been wanting to paint that vanity so bad. Now I will definitely do it, yours looks great. Thanks
You did a FANTASTIC JOB!!!...One that is MUCH, MUCH BETTER than the one I just watched on someone else's channel where the EXACT same project was done. Her job was NOT THOROUGH! As an aside...Girl!!! ALWAYS remove ALL anchor hardware prior to proceeding with your surface prep, with the toilet paper anchor pieces being your case! 👍
Thanks for all your tips! Getting ready to do my guest bathroom cabinet and wanted to watch some tutorials before I started! Just started using chalk paint and I’m loving it!
Super helpful. I am planning on painting our builder grade maple cabinet in our half bath in this color before moving on to our kitchen. I just love this color.
Great video! This is a new realm for me. We just installed new tile so needlessly to say, our cabinets need a major upgrade. This video made it less intimidating for me. Thank you!
Mine are the same color but raised panels. Bathroom cabinets and THEN kitchen cabinets will be a winter project! Assuming of course that my beginner projects turn out ok!
I. Did it I did it. And it looks amazing. Like a brand new table super easy. Thank you for. Making me feel confident enough to try it. Saved me so much money redoing living room and took my brown table and made them blk super cute. Thanks again
Love your videos! So precise and clear with your step-by-step instructions, along with explanation of techniques used! Can't wait to start painting something!🏝🌸
Wow! Thank you for the simple instructions 😊 This is a great inexpensive upgrade.I think I’m going to try this out in the second bathroom first. Thanks again!
I just finished my bathroom with chalky paint. I had the same oak doors with laminate sides. Chalky paint is very forgiving! This was my first time using this type of paint, and I can’t say enough good things about it! Keep in mind that there are other brands out there. I also used the cheap black sponge brushes without any problems. I wrapped the brushes in my gloves when I needed a break and they worked out great! ( also, they kept well over night!).
Hello 😇✨ Just found you & subscribed! Thank you so much for making this video! I have the same cabinets. With all the info/details you provided I feel I can actually do this! Much appreciated!! Your daughter is so adorable and the ending clips added made it funny too! Happy to have found you! You’re Fabulous!😊🙏🏼💐✨
Thank you so much for the detailed tutorial! The specific instructions on removal of the oak panels above the cabinet doors was great. Loved your tips re: the primer, particularly the comparable product suggestion, if you don't have the one used in the video. I didn't realize the GF Topcoat can be used on top of ASCP! This was very helpful! Thanks, Christina!
I've never been able to use that painter's tape drop cloth without it sticking to the wrong end of the plastic and making a mess. Glad it works for you.
That happens to me sometimes. I've just learned you can't roll out a big section. Just do little bits at a time. There is also a dispenser you can put it in that would prevent that. The point is to make it easier, so if it's giving you trouble you are right to just scrap it.😉
Thank you!!! I was especially interested to see how the laminate side would turn out. It looks fantastic! The entire cabinet looks like a brand new cabinet and I personally wouldn’t replace it at all! It’s actually stunning in that color. I’m wondering how the laminate side is holding up with having been painted? My house is old and we can’t afford to replace our kitchen cabinets which are laminate. I’m thinking that we could paint them as you demonstrated. Again thank you so much for sharing/teaching us how to do this. Love your channel!!!
I'm so glad I found you and this tutorial! We live in a modular home and have those same cabinets. I had no idea how to handle painting them with those mixed materials. Thank you so much!
WOW, I just found you !! I watched another one of your videos ( the end table the gel stain on top & the chalk on the bottom) .. I subscribed and gave a thumbs up to both this one and the first one I viewed. You’re a great teacher with clear and thorough instructions! Both your end table and the bathroom vanity turned out awesome!!! Can’t wait to watch more of your channel! I’d love to tackle and old bedroom set ( that belonged to our son growing up) and is now in a guest bedroom. When I do it, I’ll send you a before & after photo! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
You're really good with tutorials. After viewing many yours are most helpful. After purchasing three special brushes..I ended up during my used Purdy angled brush like yours. Lol thank you again
Just a hint: remove all doors and hardware first. It makes it easier and quicker! Love your vids! Also when painting in areas where there is very little room either use a roller or cut your paint brush handle down to a more usable size for for tight spaces!
First time watching you. You do a GREAT job showing people how to do training videos. The camera shots were helpful. Thanks!!! I am going to try this on the bathroom in the upstairs hallway, what used to be the kids’ bathroom. If I mess it up it won’t matter because we’re probably going to re-do the whole bathroom anyway, lol.
Oh Gosh your bathroom looks just like mine! 😅 You did a great job, thank you for the video! I also did a countertop refreshing. Ive got a “peel and stick” white marble vinyl paper and now my bathroom looks like brand new. 🤗
Your videos are great I really enjoy your step-by-step instructions. I painted my kitchen cabinets with a general finishes gel stain and Applied the general finishes poly acrylic satin topcoat which is non yellowing. I’ve used Annie Sloan on many projects, and I’m going to try the poly acrylic on my next project, I am like you I love the wax and the whole process of waxing but I think this would be fun to try thank you for the inspiration!
Girl, I started BIG instead of small!😄 I did my kitchen cabinets! I have to say...I'M ON LOVE with my kitchen now! Not sure how to send you the before send after photos!🙈Thanks sooo much for all your tips and tricks! Hope you have a blessed Easter!
I bought my house 2 years ago.the kitchen cabinets are chalk painted. Now after 2 years and monthly wipe Downs they look horrible it's like the paint didn't stick or something. And everytime I wipe them off it seems like I'm walk wiping part of the paint off. Are you noticing this?
Thrifty wife Happy life That REALLY stinks! I totally have NOT had any problems with mine and it's been almost a year. I did a lot of research before choosing Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I'm thinking that maybe they weren't sealed with either the wax or polyurethane. Just a thought!
@@thriftywifehappylife7385 maybe the cabinets were not cleaned properly b4 painting. All that grease & grime really gets in that wood over the years. What products are u using to clean? Should probably only use water & microfiber to wash it. But I know stubborn grease from cooking gets everywhere. Maybe use a less harsh cleaner? Good luck
Thank you for the tips! I just did my first chalk paint project on an old buffet. I wish I knew about spraying water as you go. That will help on my next project, though 😊
Turned out beautifully!! I think we have the same bathroom! My husband loves the oak but I like to have a little more ump to my decor so I am going to definitely try this! Thank you for the detailed tutorial !
My husband likes the oak and original wood finishes in our "1980's" house but I'm painting things to look more modern updated. Original is so dark and dreary, I think.
Hi Christina, I love your RU-vid channel and your videos about chalk painting. I couldn't help but notice the brown distressed box you have in the background of your video. I have a similar box and really wanted to know how you got your distressed look and how you cleaned up your box before doing anything to it. Mine is really rough around the edges so I wanted to check with you how you achieved the look! I love it!! I'm going to paint my kitchen cabinets with chalk paint, mostly because of the videos you have shared and the great tutorials as well. The box I mentioned will be my first project using chalk paint so any advice you can give me is most appreciated. Again, thank you for the videos and giving me the confidence I needed to try chalk painting!! I can't wait to see what you do next!!
This is my 3rd of yours channel for beginners. I must say, your work is so very nice. I am watching to get up the nerve to try to paint a bedside table, & took your advice it was given to me so it's freebie. It has a Gold trim on the piece, & I was thinking of taking blue painters tape, & cover it up. So I don't have to worry about it. I'm not sure of the finish or the color yet? I wanted something safe, like ivory body & legs. Brown top. I'll post pics if I do it soon. Thanks for all of your helpful hints.
Omgg girl I so want to try now!!! It looks great! Thank you so much for sharing. :) Chalk paint has been my new obsession. My hubby bought me a Cricut for Christmas - however, I think I find more joy in painting my boards versus applying the vinyl. 😁😀 They are so much fun to try new things with, and super easy to restart if all else fails!!! 😂 However, I have a few bigger projects that I want to tackle now that I'm pretty nervous about. Hints why I'm stalking your channel. 😂😂 Thank you again!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The results are beautiful. Lots of work though. I am going to try my bathroom cabinets first. Then if I can stand a big project , I will do my kitchen cabinets .
Looks fabulous. Interested to see that you painted a laminated part as well. I really want to paint my kitchen cupboards but they are laminated. As long as I prep them properly do you think this will work well? Thanks for sharing.
I am getting ready to tackle my first protect. I am slightly overwhelmed watching these videos. I am planning on a dinning room table and hutch. It’s my first option before buying a new set. Can you bullet point steps that correlate with your first timer videos. Thanks!
Oh, thank you! We actually sold it in June. 😭 You’ll see the new house in videos soon! You can check out www.prettydistressed.com to see some pics of the old house.
