A few years ago I painted my dresser and chest of drawers with chalk paint. My next project will be to improve it with some stenciling and color.

today is my lucky day! I am making over a bronze metal frame/wood frame with glass inset end table. This will be my vanity table in my bedroom. I couldnt decide how to paint it. Funny thing I found verdigris painted Chandliers that had same curves as the table. I turned my fone tupside down and yes I invisioned the bronze metal table frame with a verdigris patina. the wood tabletop will have a stone look, with the techniques you have shown...The center glass inset will be nice to let light thru to the verdigris frame...Just like a chandlier lighting up its frame....so exciting to complement the 3 organic elements of metal verdigris, stone effect and glass! the table just spoke to me as i was cleaning it. I will send you pictures thru email next week! Perfect video for my creation!

Hi Christina. Many thanks for another amazing tutorial. As always it's been very inspirational idea and I admire your skills both techical and teaching/communication:-) I'd like to respond on your question and express my interest in longer , more in depth tutorial. Having such opportunity would be an enormous help with my projects. I was able to learn from your tutorials step by step.I started with Faded Blue Jean effect (but here I was probably too ambitious and it was 1st project, haha:-) then Black & White ragging technique which came out very nicely on my dresser and also started with blending recently..Although your videos are fantastic there are so many bits & pieces I come across when working that I always think it would be great to have the opportunity to learn more details. So for me - yes - the help with trouble shooting would be absolutely grand and I'd be very happy if there was an opportunity to watch you working step by step. Many thanks. Eva

Love it so much and would absolutely love the longer in depth tutorials, you are the best teacher! Quick question...when you applied the acrylic glaze and paint colours and repeating it, do you need to wait for it to dry before applying second one? Hope that makes sense?🤩
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Hi Fran Thank you for your kind words and no waiting with clear glaze, you want the clear glaze to stay moist as that is the working medium, just like when people add water to paint to play around with the blending , you are using the clear glaze in its place instead of water! makes it less messy and much easier to work and bled with😉👍 Hope this helps❤️

I love the idea of fly specs on a piece to add more character. I’ve never done this technique before. I’m wondering, the way you dilute the paint by sticking the brush in water first, does it give the spackle an essence of the color (like water color) or is it still pretty close to the actual color? I guess, it’s just a matter of preference by adjusting the wetness.
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Kim Bennett ... thank you so much Kim for your kind comment and feedback 💙🙏 You are exactly right regarding the fly specs! I like to dilute the paint with water similar to watercolour but it also allows me to erase it with my figure tip or damp cloth if it was to much or didn’t like some of the specs 😉🎨 Just play and most of all have fun 🤗

Linda Johnston ... thank you so much Linda for your kind comment and feedback! 🙏💙 I have learned so much in regards to editing and making videos lol 😂 it was a long road and still learning! Right down to music, it’s great but very important to add much lower volume on my end! Understanding what I hear on my end versus what the viewers hear when opening the video on their devices. I wanted to ask viewers about the length as I have so much information ℹ️ and it’s very tricky to shorten tutorials to under 10-20 mins. So many techniques I want to share take time and many steps and it’s so important to explain in detail for viewers to be successful when using the techniques. It’s important to communicate with you as viewers to ask what helps you and what I can do to make it easier and more helpful for you. Again thank you so much for your feedback 🤗💙💙

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom In view of your reply, first, thank you! Here is another idea. Let me start by saying that I appreciate your thoroughness. You don't leave me with a lot of questions and I think that is one of your concerns. To keep that up, why not make a video on one subject about 20-25 minutes long. Tell the watchers, based on responses from watchers, that's what you are going to do. Try it out. See what happens. I don't think you will see a decline in viewers at all. That was you will also establish a playlist of specific information. If it doesn't work, we'll try something else. See what your viewers respond. I would certainly watch for 30 minutes!

Thank you once more for a wonderful video. As always, I love your choice of colors and techniques and how well they age a project. One time I finished a table top and applied wax as a sealer. Unfortunately, the surface wasn't protected well. I think that I didn't give the wax a long enough cure before people used it. spills and such eventually lifted the wax and paint and well, i'm going to try again. I'm wondering for a table that will be used as an eating/drinking surface if you believe that the acrylic laquer will be durable enough? I also wondered if you could tell us how you care for your brushes, especially the wax brushes? Do you remove the wax from them after every usage? Do you use water and soap to remove wax or alchohol? Or is it ok to let the wax dry on them? Thank you, as always for your generous sharing of your experience!
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Hi Nanette The lacquer varnish should be very durable. Wax is durable but for any high utility use like a table top or work station area definitely a lacquer will protect. As for brush care , Murphy's Oil Soap is the best for cleaning your brushes. I do it every so often, to maintain the brushes. If paint on the frame or handle bother you I recommend using a paint thinner to remove the paint spots, I don't mind the spots so I don't do that very often lol 😂 but the bristles are important. Let them soak for about 20 mins half hour and wash with warm water and a bit of dish soap after the soak. Hope this helps 🙏🎨

Hi Christina, LOVE your work. Need help. Was very happy with kitchen table but the wax wasn't enough to seal it and v.quickly stains from grease etc built up. Bought lacquer, and will now have to re do. I'm scared to sand back and restart as we've not much space and we're a family of 5 so need to use asap. Can't go for texture as it will be too hard to clean "properly " will the lacquer be enough to protect from hot plates /grease etc or should I give up? It's put me off doing my stairs now, as I'm afraid the same will happen. Kinda knocked the wind outta my sails. Ps, using all Annie products. Any advice would be cherished

Hi Cerena I am so sorry to hear about your project and I one point I remember having something similar happen. I do feel the lacquer varnish should be enough to protect your kitchen table top. I have painted and lacquer finish kitchen table top and I have not had any issues at all! I did apply 2 full coats and some prefer even 3 but I found 2 was enough! I don't have any problems with cleaning or using a cleaner on top so I hope this helps , if you have any other questions please fell free to contact me anytime 🙏🎨

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Thank you, thank you, for your reply. Such a Great help. I'm a little star struck 🙈if I'm honest. You're like the rock god of chalk 😂🌟😎🙌. I'll give it 2 or 3 coats to be safe 🤗. Is there any technique you'd suggest for the stairs? They're old and not in great shape. I was gonna try frottage or similar. I thought it would hide a multitude and not show up too much dirt. Watched your "tiling" video and got very excited so may try that after I'm satisfied with the look. You've given me my confidence back to tackle these projects. You've no idea how much this means to me. Go raibh míle maith agat (pronounced gurra me-la maw a-gut) a million thank yous from Dublin. 🇮🇪

Cerena OBrien ... for stairs it depends on what your design idea is ? Are you wanting to apply paint to the step or the riser? I have a tutorial I did a few weeks ago on painting my own stairs but I stencilled the riser .

@@TheReclaimedHeirloom you did, I watched it and loved it ❤️was going to try frottage on the step and stencils on the riser?? I've no back up plan 😬if the frottage doesn't look good, have you any suggestions? I've a Louis Blue, French Grey and can't remember the name of the teal colour. Was gonna play around with them. I also have graphite and Napoleon blue and a couple of waxes.(clear & dark) All Annie, but have a gold and a silver I picked up in the hardware store. Much love 😍 sent your way.

I actually love the length of your videos. When I see a tutorial video I’m interested in looking at from someone and then I see it is like and hour, I’m ashamed to say I just skip it. 😕

Sorry if this was asked, but what is your favorite brand of clear glaze? I think I saw you using General Finishes extender in one of your tutorials. I checked, and it's pretty pricey. Do you think Floetrol would be a good alternative?

I would love to see how to deal with the inside of drawers that might have smells or blotches of random stains
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Hi Wendy, Insides of furniture pieces are always a ? Generally I paint them because I work on mostly used pieces and a fresh inside is much preferred by new buyers. I love Fusion Paint not only for exterior finishes but for inside of drawers and cabinets , Its super thick and 1-1/2 coats make for a new look! and because its an all in one paint with sealer so it won't chip or need wax to seal it. If you have a very good condition piece and the drawers are in good condition I will just apply a fresh stain coat inside to freshen the wood ! But generally I come across drawers with stains or water marks etc and a paint like fusion mineral paint is 👌 perfect. I did once sand the inside of a dresser and it was a lot of work but it made it feel new again. Everything depends on what you'r restoring, is it to sell or a piece of your own furniture and your preferences.Hope this helps and if you have any other questions you can reach out anytime🙏🎨

Cristina, can the effect be done with any type of paper? or do you recommend one in particular?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Hi Nerida yes you can use any paper supply , newspaper is popular, any paper grade is fine! The thicker the paper the thicker the crinkles and lines will create for texture! Sponges as really nice textures used the same way! I did really like the tissue paper for its very fine crinkle effect looks very naturally aged.

I painted a small hutch in a charcoal Gray and I'm not sure of the best way to bring in out any suggestions
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Teganique ... that is a beautiful colour tone charcoal grey! There are a couple of things you can do , one you use a white wax to highlight or do a colour wash in a light grey to give highlights! Try testing a small area on the side first and if you don’t like it just paint the charcoal colour back over it 😉🎨

I love this look...but my house is slate blue and charcoal and other greys...very cool...no yellow or brown at all...I'm having trouble figuring out how to make it happen with my colors...I cant figure out any color to use except the blue ...with gray ...and white...any suggestions...I was thinking about the dixie belle blue metallic.. but dont know if that would work...I actually wanted a smooth two or three color blend with the lightest color in middle...but couldnt seem to make the look good either...did put some black wax then grey wax on edges but then screwed it all up by rubbing it...now it's too dark...so taking off wax...for a redo...I dint know how to put a pic on the comment or I would...maybe I'll figure it out tomarrow...

(I'm sorry if you don't use dixie belle just ignore my question )...I'm just surprised to see alot if people using laquer and shellac...I thought these were old and not as good as polycrylic..

Hi Terri! I have not used the dixie belle products yet. But I think they are good to seal for a top coat. Yeah I think its just a preference to some people, I think its just is available in your area. ❤️🙏🎨

One question: can you do same technique with a milk paint?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 года назад
Zhi Zhi ... absolutely! Milk paint 🎨 is beautiful, I just recommend adding another one or two layers on your base coat as milk paint is much thinner! I actually have a ton of milk paint 🎨 and I should make a a tutorial on similar techniques with milk paint 🎨 It is beautiful paint and love the colour tones with milk paint 🎨

Hi Tawana, good question! I know if you go to the paint store and ask them for a water based or acrylic clear glaze that is used for walls they can paint you to one. Benjamin Moore carries glaze products. ❤️🙏🎨

Hi Ann, thank you 🙏 for your kind comment and feedback. I currently making a tutorial series with videos. I really love RU-vid and enjoy sharing on this platform but this platform really is about easy DIY and short 10-15 min videos and get better results in the suggested playlist for creators. That results in tons of questions for people like me as I try to place all my steps but it is really hard to make such short videos to get certain results as there is lots of details. I decided to create more of a one on one series where the tutorials are not time restricted and are approx and an hour or so in length and I guide you through every detail for you projects, this allows more troubleshooting suggestions and more creative knowledge to be very successful as well as share more technical support of optimum success. These tutorials will be available on my website and etsy account this summer. The tutorials will be different than and what I do here on RU-vid. If you have subscribed to me channel I will be announcing soon when the tutorials are available. Thanks so much for your question and watching the videos 🙏💕
