Chalkumro'r bora/bhaja or poor: In this family favourite recipe a chal kumro-which is ash gourd, called so because they were grown on roofs ("chal" in Bangla)-is stuffed with a pungent mustard and coconut filling, then dipped in a batter and fried. This is served as a side with dal, rice and a torkari (any vegetable dish), before the fish or meat course.

We're watching this in the middle of the class in college. Everyone's phone beeped with the Bong Eats notification and we looked at each other and huddled together to watch the video. I'm the only girl in the group, it was also nice to see so many boys take an interest to cooking thanks to your recipes. ❤️

Thank you bong eats for this video! Chalkumro'r ei recipe ta is nothing but sheer nostalgia to me!! My dadi (maternal grandmother) used to make this bora but with "kucho chingri bata" along with the regular "sorshe r narkel pur"...and the end result is something I can't even explain...I can't thank you guys enough for bringing this age old dish back..lots of love to both of you 😊😊😊

Bottle gourd is not doodhi in Hindi. The Hindi name is lauki (in UP, MP, Rajasthan or even gheeya (Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, west UP). Known as Kaddu in Bihar. Bottle gourd is called doodhi only in Maharashtra & Gujarat Chal kumro is actually ash gourd , which is often called petha (Delhi and around) or bhatua (eastern UP n Bihar) and even Kashiphal in some parts. In MP Mahrashtra and Gujarat it is often called bhopla as well.
