I just wanted to say thank you, I learned a lot of astrodynamics and gained a lot of interest in the engineering behind spacecraft. most of what I learned was from ksp, reading posts, listening to you and researching real astrodynamics from papers and Wikipedia. through all of this seeing your content has inspired me to try larger and stranger things in ksp, which is what made me learn. so thank you Scott Manly, an may your rockets only explode hilariously.

1:21:13 Your whole craft got saved by what appears to be a new feature: it automatically swapped your pilot heading from retrograde to stability assist. I'm guessing it now makes this swap when a craft performs a near-perfect velocity reversal, such as when landing. It didn't do it on your first landing attempt at Minmus because you were angled much farther from your retrograde vector.

Technically speaking, you must have the rocket landed on its main engine with all monopropelant, electricity, fuel and oxidizer tanks full. In order to do this, you could raise the rocket a few meters in the vacuum over Minmus plains, shutdown the descent engines and eject them away [the impact should not broke the main Kerbal X engine, and its capsule SAS shold mantain it stable after the first bouncing].

True story, I was stationed in South Korea while I was in the US Army and while I was doing PT (Sit-ups or crunches or something) I saw both the ISS AND the space shuttle in orbit! I wasn't sure what I saw that day and posted it on my favorite conspiracy site at the time to have them debunk it as NOT aliens lol and I was pleasantly surprised it was a really amazing view of the shuttle and ISS...This was in 2007-2008 on Camp Hovey about 6AM, Not sure about the date...

I'm surprised no one came up with the idea of just attaching extra fuel tanks and feeding them directly into the X's engines (and then strapping more boosters underneath) - the final craft would still land fully fueled, but the engines would be slightly used.

Surely Scott Manley, the king of KSP efficiency, knows that all his engines should be pointing in the same direction?

I know its an old video, but noticed staging was off the entire way through to the end, had you tried to continue the mission from minmus, you would have taken the entire lander stage with you, perhaps overheating and igniting the boosters used for landing. Not ideal

It sucks that missions like these became so trivial with the addition of the extra large parts, feels like you can launch anything with ease using them now.

I remember you talking about some KSP challenge on where you land a rocket on each planet without going back to Kerbin. You should preform that challenge

If you're a fan of great beers, you should try Alexander Keith's. India Pale Ale and Golden Brown are my personal favorites from them. Keiths makes some of the best Canadian specialty beers around. If you're not used to Canadian beer, though it's always a good idea to take it slow, as Canadian beer is quite strong. Alexander Keith's is based out of Newfoundland, as far as I know.

Don't know if this was mentioned nor covered-But I've noticed that when reorienting parts, it tends to move them a little nudge when I have or don't have angle snap on. With angle snap off it doesn't seem to do that. (in response to when you were placing those little engines and trying to rotate them and noticed they automatically twisted a little)

Could you have burned the landing engines for a while in the earlier stages, or they can only burn on one stage, not with the remaining side engines? They have plenty of excess fuel on minmus at least, which could be piped into the X's engine at launch from either moon. They also would help put a much larger torque on the whole thing, eliminating your spinning problem. Yeah I'm right there with you on the eidetic memory of random stuff. Please start using the E and Q buttons for Rudder in Air flights and for Rotation during Space flight. It is really kinda of annoying to see your compass ball always not level. When you can just rotate your craft. And for air flight, when your heading into the runway just use E and Q to slew your aircraft rather than using Ailerons to rotate craft and keep counter steering with lift. Just slew with rudders q & e. Thanks.

Those were the only ones I've found, and that's from the entire collective crowd at IMDB... The fact is that we know so little about my ancestors that most of the things people call anachronism is simply things we don't know whether the vikings had or not. We know Aella didn't rule Northumbria in 793 and we know rosary beads weren't around until the 1300's, but beyond that, everything in the show is feasibly from that time period... yes, even the seemingly magic Sun Stone could have existed at that time period. Just because we haven't found one at a viking burial mound doesn't mean vikings didn't use them. We certainly know other cultures at the time did...

I highly recommend Shannon Chocolate Stout for your next streaming beer. Also Shiner is mediocre, there are plenty of decent breweries in TX. Karbach beers are my favorites.
